Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
And Zlatan spent most of his time missing chance after chance after chance and being a big reason why we failed to score many goals/drew loads of games/ultimately finished 6th so let's not pretend he was perfect

Not sure why you feel the need to downplay what Cavani did for us last season, both him and Zlatan had fairly good first seasons all things considered
Zlatan missed a lot of goal scoring opportunities, but he still had the highest scoring season for us since RVP despite missing the last month of the season after he did his cruciate (Bruno matched him last season but played 12 more games and a hell of a lot of penalties). We were also only one point outside the top four when he got injured.

I'm not downplaying Cavani at all, I'm stating exactly how his season went. Good as a bench player for most of it, and then improving to be good as a starter for the final couple of months. Actually looking back at it I did slightly do him dirty - he was good as a starter for the final three months of the season, not two like I originally said. But for most of the season he struggled to make an impact whenever he started. Overall his season certainly wasn't as good as Zlatan's, and it wasn't even particularly close.

His first season is very overrated here. He's scored total of 4 goals in PL until February, and has missed lots of football last season too. Just because his goalscoring ratio wasn't bad doesn't mean he was great. Coming on in the second half and pumping your goalscoring record is not a spectacular thing, especially when he would do 90 minutes games where he did nothing.

Ragnick on Cavani deciding he isn’t playing against City in March.

"Edi trained well in the last three days but, in the end, he didn't feel quite well enough to be able to play

"What does it help if I tell you it's frustrating? It's just a fact if players tell the doctor and the medical department that they are injured and cannot play. I have to accept it as a manager."

Asked if Cavani decides when he plays, Rangnick continued: "Edi trained in the last three days, he trained well, but he still felt after those three training sessions that he is still not fit to play.

"This is a fact and as a manager, I cannot force a player to play if he doesn't feel fit or well enough to play.”

It should also be noted that he decided he couldn’t play in the next two games before having a cameo vs Spurs a few days before international break....where he played and returned again unfit to play for us until last night.

On Cavani wanting to leave....

"It depends. I think you will understand that I don’t want to talk about individual players in public. I know from some players that they would want to leave.

"We spoke about Edi, and he knows that I will definitely not let him go. For me, he is a highly important player for the rest of the season, [we’re] still playing in three competitions so we will definitely need Edi.”
If that's your evidence for wanting to leave in January and being 'fit for months' I'm really disappointed.

Really ? Would be very strange of a manager to say ‘I’ve spoken to him, he knows there’s no chance I will let him leave’ if the player in question didn’t want to leave.
Surely the answer then would be....’Edi hasn’t asked to leave’.
It’s a fecking bizarre answer if Cavani hadn’t asked to leave.

Same with the injury....if he’s injured the simple answer is....’he trained this week but had a setback and so he’s not fit to play’

Ralf literally says twice....he’s trained well three times, but I can’t make him play. The day before in his presser he said he expected him to be available. Then he goes out of his way NOT to simply say Cavani isn’t fit.

Short of an insight into the goings on in Cavani’s head I’m not sure what more you need.

You must be the worlds most gullible person if you can’t get the message out of those interviews.

So he missed one game and he was apparently fit for months as you say?
As I said Pogba fans going on Cavani is truly bizarre. Cheers.

Deflect and discredit. I wonder why you don’t engage in conversation on the points raised?

Why would a manager say ‘he knows there’s no chance I will let him leave’ about a player who hadn’t asked to leave?

In fact he was asked about players leaving....why would he mention Cavani at all if he hadn’t asked to leave?

Why do you think Ralf decided to make it public knowledge that Cavani had trained well for three games but decided himself that he wasn’t fit?

Why did he chose to answer the question on it being frustrating with ‘what does it help if I tell you it’s frustrating’ and ‘I can’t force him to play’ ?

What’s your thoughts. Always interested in balancing things out.

What a prick. He ditched his baby in the Man Utd gilet as soon as he was getting a free gift!

You said club decided Cavani was fit for months. I asked what does that mean and can the club decide a player is fit for months. You went about Ralf comments about one game.

Even if Cavani wanted to leave so what.

I just compared it to Pogba situation in the sense it's silly to criticise Cavani while trying to find every excuse out there for Pogbas actions.

I’m not going finding quotes for every game. People have memories and can make decisions for themselves. There were two games after the city game for a start before Cavani went off to Uruguay to play and returned injured. There are quotes from Ole from earlier in the season about Cavani deciding when he is fit. People can go and look at his absences for United and when he’s gone off on international duty. You can find quotes from Ole about Cavani not being allowed to play for Uruguay and miss two months of the season. Anyone with half a brain can see that Cavani asked to leave in January and it was refused.

What Pogba situation? The fact he said at the end of a season where he was abused on the pitch that it might be best if he left? Most of the fans agreed anyway. The fact that he said that he’s got a position in the France team ? He’s not really got one here, most agree with that. He’s hardly wrong in what he’s saying. It’s been an uneasy return from the off. The fans have to take some blame for Pogba feeling unwanted, Pogba has to take some blame for the fans actions, he left on a free the first time and it has been held against him since. To do it again….I get the hostility but he’s always put himself forward to play. Nobody can deny that. Cavani has had an absolute laugh at our expense all the way to the bank on the back of two months.

If you dont find anything wrong in Pogba's agent throwing shit at United at every opportunity in the past and Pogba's interviews on international duty this talk doesnt have a purpose. Of course situation with him is not all his fault and anyone saying that would be deluded but your stance is he's not to blame at all for the whole situation and his career at United.

As for quotes you made the claim you find the quotes to back the claim if you want to.

As I said its maybe true Cavani wanted to leave, its true too Raiola was offering Pogba 1.5 year into his contract. I'm not going into that position stuff cause its the same with interviews, he's been used in many position, that's right but his effort has been mostly I dont give a damn or in major part. We're again going oftopic so as I sad you can give quotes if you want and you're right everyone decides for themselves and shouldnt let certain agendas influence their opinions.
You said Cavani went to play for Uruguay and got back injured and you're taking that against him for instance which is a bit strange.

You obviously have no idea what my stance is on Pogba. It is simple really……The fans never forgave him and it’s gone from there, with both sides playing a part until we get to the mess we have now. On Pogba’s part the fact that he’s always been so non committal in interviews, when he could have closed down doors, has irked fans further. It almost becomes playground. In my opinion once he was resigned the fans should have embraced him, and I know a lot of hardcore…..and the never did. Then it would be on Pogba. Now you have a situation where it’s fair to ask why he should be committed to United when our fanbase has been against him from the get go and blamed him for everything.

On the note and as a result of his price tag that he hasn’t lived up to, he’s then judged to different standards than any other player I can remember by fans and pundits.

Your post says his effort has been mostly I don’t give a damn. I can’t think of many players ever who I’ve watched and thought they just don’t care, off the top of my head Neil Webb towards the end and, sadly, Marcus Rashford now. I’m watching him and he seems to be playing with his middle finger up. Pogba…..he’s very poor defensively always has been. But from the position he plays he’s always there to take the ball from the back four, always in the middle third to take the ball from the full backs, always pulling to the left to make overloads or to the right to take it from AWB etc. He makes runs into the box and tries to create from outside the box. I’ve never been in OT and from watching the game felt like he wasn’t trying. Even when he had a spell of terrible form after Jose dropped him, he looked short on confidence but was showing for the ball.

His weakness is covering runners, but then I watch McT do exactly the same, yet hide from receiving the ball, have far fewer touches, create nothing and do nothing offensively, but he gives a damn? I’ve never been inside OT where fans have had a go at Pogba during the game for not trying, because he’s always involved in the game…good bad or ugly. That’s been a very unfair stick to beat him with IMO.

In addition he’s been singled out ridiculously by the media. If he ever loses the ball near our box…..it’s crime of the century. If he gives away a penalty it’s the entire talk of post match. Bruno gave the ball away on the edge of his box in a crucial game against Arsenal a few weeks ago. Nothing mentioned. He did it against Leeds. Nothing mentioned. Against Leicester nothing mentioned. Pogba got blocked at a corner v Chelsea….rewatch the coverage and MOTD it was the entire debate. I’ve never seen that before or since. Neville went on a tirade about Pogba losing a runner against West Ham last year, then realised it was Telles and shut up! Called it treason that he took a penalty and Pogba ended up racially abused.

Pogba hasn’t done nothing wrong, that’s ridiculous….but there’s enough people claim ridiculous things like he always plays like he doesn’t give a damn or he’s had 1 good game in 10. Thats bullshit and along with the above it’s what I take exception to. He’s guilty of not performing to the level you would expect of a world record transfer, in fact way below. He has to take a lot of blame for that while we also recognise what he actually has done, which is to be one of our better players in that time. He’s not a Keane or a Robson he’s a cherry on the cake player. I’ve enjoyed watching him but never expected a mauradimg midfielder.

Hope that clears that up for you. Pogba stirs such emotion in people you can’t invite rational thought without people flying off the rails.

On Cavani as I said I’ve provided evidence that he’s chosen not to play when the staff felt he could. I’ve provided evidence he clearly has asked to leave. There’s plenty more out there. If you want to believe that Cavani has not been fit, literally couldn’t have played, didn’t ask to leave despite Ragnick p’s comments that’s your right….just as it is your right to believe Pogba has mainly played like he doesn’t give a damn.

Its obvious what's your stance on Pogba from your past posts and this post especially. You numbered all of excuses already mentioned 100 times. He's a cherry on the cake, he best works closer to the goal (left side midfield, left winger/midfielder), he needs runners to do his thing, he needs a fixed position, he doesnt cover runner but so dont the others, he makes runes but nobody tracks those runs, he needs to take the ball from the defenders or is right or left when he should be the opposite, he's a world class player, the best midfielder even but cant play in a multiple positions in midfield but just one whatever the position is. Other players have gotten flak too and its another excuse that others are not criticised since they all are.

Bolded part is a key. You claim Pogba hasnt done nothing wrong. And thats that, whats the puropose of discussing it any further if that's your stance on the matter. You think its bullshit he plays in walking pace many times and strikes as someone who doesnt give damn, you dont agree on that and ok, thats your opinion which I respect and wholly disagree with it.

Its strange you didnt respond to the things I wrote about Raiola's constant shitting on the club and you cant tell me Pogba wasnt aware of it or it werent his comments going through his agent sometimes.

You're right about emotion regarding Pogba. Well you yourself went on tirade here just to defend him.

As for evidence you havent provided any other than 2, 3 Ralf quotes and as I said I'm not the one who should look up for it. If you remember it was you who replied to me and that's how all this conversation started.

I'm again repeating we're going offtopic regarding Pogba so if you want to talk about him any further you can inbox me cause conversation here is pointless or conversation about Pogba with you in general.

Sorry you completely misread my post. Most of the first part of what you’ve written was either criticism from me of him ie cherry on the cake, poor defensively….or descriptive of how he plays ie picking the ball up from defence, overlapping on the left etc. These weren’t a defence of the player. The post was to clarify my position since you wanted to tell me my own position….and it’s repetition because I’ve already stated it many many times because to a lot of posters….anyone who doesn’t agree that Pogba walks around every game and has one good game in ten, must think he’s blameless or something.

But look how triggered you got  look how much you’ve written, when I provided evidence on the subject of the discussion, you wanted to deflect. Here your in full debate mode!

How dare somebody who doesn’t think Pogba is to blame for everything, who thinks he’s been one of our better players in the last five years and isn’t completely to blame, or blameless either, for the break down in relationship criticise Cavani !

That seems to be the crux of your argument, which is quite strange since the two are unrelated. I wonder if Pogba decided he was unfit, and actually asked for a transfer after six months and again after eighteen months whether you’d be quick to deflect and as uninterested as you’ve been here in Cavani’s thread.

Yes this is Cavani’s thread by the way so I bid you farewell, I’ll leave you to exist here in blissful ignorance. The man can do no wrong.

It’s the variation in yours. Lack of interest vs major interest and what triggered the interest. Another indicator is telling other people what their own opinion is.

He decided that he wasn’t fit a few times despite Ralf saying he was fit....then played for Uruguay. So yeah. Not many players would ever get away with that and Cavani has done nothing to deserve that liberty.
And didn't last 30 mins before breaking down and needing a sub.

Seems there was something to it, huh?

You’ve proof it was the same injury he broke down with? A couple of other points. He trained for three weeks on the grass with the players, prior. You’d have thought it would have broke down in training perhaps? Also why did he go to play twice for Uruguay ? Why was he prepared to do that and get injured but not prepared to play for us in the weeks before....when he was willing to train?

Yes this is Cavani’s thread by the way so I bid you farewell, I’ll leave you to exist here in blissful ignorance. The man can do no wrong.
Fully agree with your posts mate. Probably best to save your breath though, the exceptional hatred some fans have for Pogba is intense.

He has 2-3 chronic injuries he has been rotating over since WC 2018.

The whole "don't feel fit" has been a regular feature since then BOTH for club and country.

Over the last WCQs he only started 5 out of 18 games and had to be taken off injured in 2 of those.

He clearly doesn't make that shit up and it's been no different whether it's club or country. It's obvious he has issues. Stop it, it's just bizarre how you keep droning on about that.

He wanted to leave? I don't question it, I would too. We shouldn't have begged him to stay this season. He shouldn't be finding he is not playing qualifiers through the news, after we voted not to release players at some EPL meeting. His manager's response to his dismay should not be "I always knew who my employers were" (throwback to Stam's meat and Ronaldo's slavery). All this right after we signed someone else for his job out of nowhere and made him switch numbers, just because it came up.

We are of course entitled to do that, but we refused to give him an out for more regular first team football back then and, again, in January. Stupid hare-brained decisions along with so many others which are the norm with us lately.

Tough shit, move on, nothing to keep character-assassinating someone over.

Yeah I mean, transfer didn't work out, looking back we definitely should have let him leave after a year but for whatever reason some have the need to portray him as a prick who picks when to play. Maybe it's just me but it started when Luckhurst started banging about it all the while not telling the whole story like you did just now. Clicks eh.

Thats a disgracefully twisted version of event that you’re painting. Firstly in your stats using ‘started’ for some bizarre reason and also including:-

2 games he wasn’t in the squad due to red zone and the fact we had just given him the start of the season off to have a holiday in Uruguay. No sorry you can’t miss the next month as well on £250k.

2 games he was suspended due to a red card  ffs. talk about trying to be deceptive.

2 games he wasn’t available due to Corona virus. Like anyone has an issue with players being unavailable due to coronavirus.

you state he started 5 games but for some bizarre reason you fail to disclose that he featured in 9 games. So that’s 9 of the last 12 Uruguay games (75%) he’s been eligible to play in……he’s played in.

If we include cops America, for which he was granted an extended break by the really awful Manchester United who are so evil they pay him £1mill a month, he’s played 14 of Uruguay’s last 17 games (82%).

For Manchester United this season he has declared himself available for 18 of the 46 match day squads (39%).

But of course you are right….39% and 82% are the same.

Apparently you also think that agreeing a contract extension means we should pay Cavani and he should do what he likes? That we shouldn’t sign competition for Cavani and that if we do he can then do what he likes, when he likes? That we should give him an extended break after copa America meaning he misses the start of the season, and then pay him another £1mill to miss the next month. Most bizarrely you think that we should have disregarded our aims to qualify for CL and our squad needs because Edi would rather play somewhere else. And all of this is good reason for him not to make himself available for the bad bad Manchester United who pay him £1mill a month.

Give over.

Despite you spending a week claiming he didn’t want to leave, he was just seeking assurances, he wanted to give more minutes to Mason, he’s just winding down the last few months of his professional career etc, etc back in January.

Your picking and choosing at will over the entire qualifying campaign.

Let's make it simple stupid: he was available for the last four world cup qualifiers, potentially 360 minutes of football, in which he completed 129 i.e. less than 50%.

You clearly have issues.

Someone wanting assurances, not seeing much of a role for himself and wanting to have a role more in line with his plans/fitness is of course someone open to a move who may even suggest it and put it forward.

That's quite different to "can't wait to get out of here" and such crap that arseholes like you were hellbent on.

 You’re moving the goalposts to the last four games now. I looked at the whole campaign, the reasons why he wasn’t available and the fact that he played in games YOU disregarded because he hadn’t started.

At least be honest ffs.

I stated facts: he only started five games in an eighteen game qualifying campaign. He didn't finish four of those. Four others he played 20 mins or so at the end, largely because he didn't feel fit to start.

Whether for the rest it wasn't only injuries but also suspensions, Covid, the club not releasing him, whatever, the fact remains he hasn't been a regular or someone that can be relied upon as such. Newsflash, wink wink nudge nudge, or just a hammer on your head, what does it require?

Everything that gets raised by you, Ralf or whoever has been a constant for the NT and PSG before joining us. There's no difference in his injury proneness and aversion to risking himself.

As I said, he has three injuries (groin, calf, thigh) and keeps shifting from one to another, which is quite common when you become chronic. If you are not 100% you overcompensate/overstretch other body parts and those break down instead.

It's part an parcel and we can't possibly be surprised by it or hold it against him.

I've paid attention to his attitude and character for about 15 years now. In his early days, at peak, and now. Good times, bad times and even worse (e.g. first wife bonking a teammate).

Yes, I do have more of a clue than you do on how he thinks and goes about things.

I’m not really interested in that you feel like you know the inner workings of his mind because you don’t. What you think you know, you don’t know, like you didn’t know that he’d asked to leave etc. You’ve watched him for years that’s great though. You’re obviously a huge fan and I respect that but it doesn’t change my view.

What we do know is that he’s made himself available for 39% of our match day squads in comparison to 83% of Uruguay’s in the last 12 months and in your version he’s made himself available for Uruguay when he isn’t even fit. So he refuses to play for us before going to play in two games in three days for Uruguay and returns injured again while we foot the Bill.

In any case I think everyone can agree that Cavani gave us two great months last season and nearly got us over the line in the EL final. He perhaps didn’t deserve to be on the losing side. Aside from those two months it’s been an extremely poor signing for us, for whatever reasons we can disagree.

Whether two, four or six we can agree to disagree but not on the gist of this.

How hard is that? Does it justify banging on and on about a specific player being a problem?

I saw earlier you going on about Pogba never getting a fair chance from fans and thus not owing us anything. The shoe fits, doesn't it? What loyalty or commitment can we expect from players if we are a bunch of cnuts constantly running down half our squad and even abusing them on social media?

I'm not at all happy that inside 12 months we've gone from comfortable second and EL runner-ups to utterly hopeless. Players have a lot to answer for, yes, but us fans aren't smelling of roses either. In fact, we've been part of the problem for a while now.
