I think it's a bit late now unfortunately.
He's not as crucial to Chelsea as he once was and picks up 2-3 niggly injuries during a season but he would make a vast improvement still to your midfield carcass.

Him breezing through the recent 1-1 at OT said it all.

Him and De Jong and suddenly you have a solid axis infront of the backline to build from.

However Chelsea probably won't want to sell to domestic rival and always likelihood someone like PSG will want him to cover the gaps left by workshy front 3.

Edit: WOuld be similar to you getting Matic in 2017. Not as good as he was for Chelsea but still did a solid job for 2-3 years so you need to find someone who can do similar.

Doesn't strike me as the type who would play at one of Chelsea's rivals, even though it's not the fiercest of rivalries.

I don’t see any truth in this one. I do still like him, but I think it’s the kind of signing that we should move away from

He’s hardly John Terry. He joined Chelsea last week. And we have done business with Chelsea before.

Nah thanks. Clearly not what he used to be physically and his style of play relied so much on that physicality. We'd be looking to replace him again before too long.

If we could get him for dirt cheap I'd take him. He's definitely on a downward trajectory but still a very good player.

I doubt the fee would be sensible enough for it to make sense. Hoping it's BS and we're actually going to scout younger players rather than make silly bids and fund rivals' transfer budgets.

Hell no. Can we please stop signing these over the hill outcasts. When will we ever learn?

Fantastic player on his day but one who’s best years are behind him now. Similar to Matic. I hope we steer well clear and target someone younger but with similar attributes.

We should have a cap of 25 years for any signing within the next three years.

No point buying a player that will be past it when this side peaks

Would love it, came on today and did so well, good amount of injuries recently but him with a little bit of Fred ( not a big fan of Fred but..) rotation could work well

People are passing on the player that should've gotten ballon d'or last season? Mental.

Yes he was injured a lot this season but I don't think he lost his legs, and he has a really healthy lifestyle so I guess he has a few more years left in him.
De Jong, Kante, VdB could actually be a good trio.

The main things that his game are based on are the first things to go as you get older. It's a pass from me.

Just turned 31. Depends on price, but he would be a perfect partner to De Jong if he could stay fit.

Shit source probably but would be a perfect fit for de jong if he was fit.
He's getting slightly old and injury prone so probably not worth it.

Cracking player , what a travesty that we didn't get him from Leicester straight away, world class .

Don't believe it. I think it is either his agent or someone from Chelsea briefing.

Would be similar to us signing Matic in 2017.

He'd probably have 1 good season and then completely regress in the following seasons.

Hard pass. He looks physically worse and worse every time I watch him this season.

Kinda strange to see the amount of people here claiming Kante is burnt every time he hits a rough patch, I think it started in 2019. We're talking about a player who was the best player on the pitch in both legs of the semi final and in the final of the champions league (which never happened in the history of the competition) less than a year ago. He just turned 31, with a healthy lifestyle, players can maintain very high levels of physicality until 34-35 yo. Benzema, Modric, Ronaldo etc.

Also, he had a late carreer, meaning he didn't start playing high intensity pro games when he was 17 like a lot of players do nowadays.

Recently, though, Kanté’s form has fallen away. Holes have begun to appear in that impenetrable forcefield. He has, very occasionally, had bad games before now, most notably the 2018 World Cup final, when L’Équipe gave him a score of three out of ten and he was baled out by his pivot partner, Paul Pogba. But those performances have begun to occur more often, and with fewer superhuman displays in between. That distinctive running gait, conveying both lightness and urgency — the dash of a boy running to the grocery store to acquit an errand for which he has been promised extra pocket money — has started to look a little heavier and more frantic.

Kanté struggled against Brentford in the 4-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge last month; was substituted at half-time in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid, having not completed a single dribble, tackle or interception; then was at fault for Cristiano Ronaldo’s equaliser in the 1-1 draw against Manchester United. Since then, he has been out injured, another recurring theme of a difficult season.

Kanté’s decline, if we can call it that, has mostly been explained as a physical depletion, a pilot light going out. “The last two years, [he’s had] so many injuries,” his fellow World Cup-winning France midfielder Emmanuel Petit said. “He can bring the same energy and the same display on the pitch, but not every three days. He’s 31-years-old and he’s not immortal.”
From an article in the Sunday Times. Sound like the sort of signing we should be making right now?
