Academy players who don't make it - Tony Pulis argues for a better safety net

damn I knew football was selective but 78% out by 22 is insane.
It’s not really. That Pulis podcast was very telling. Finally clicked into place that clubs just take on players they know will never make it, just to make up numbers. The clubs need ‘filler’ to make up the youth leagues.

Many players taken on by clubs are only there to facilitate the development of the genuine talent.

That’s not to say the 78% are bad footballers. They’re obviously great. But the point of insight that says only 1 in 4 are the real focus, makes a lot of sense.

This thread was talking about what happens to youth players and their well being, why should that mean only discussion about one gender is allowed, when girls and boys are in academies/youth teams, and suffer similar fates when released or if they don't "make it"??

No malice here, just genuinely curious as to why the need to make a new thread elsewhere, when it is merely asking a question, or staying on topic within the thread?
Because this isn’t the ladies forum, we need to keep that distinction. I suspect the data/resource quoted also pertained to the mens forum.

Again no malice, just purely curious, why is there a need to keep things separate, or to keep a distinction, when what was being talked about was on topic, why the need to have to create a separate thread elsewhere just to ask or talk about something that is already being talked about right here??

Not to appear rude, but I think it is partly because a lot of people aren't interested in the women's game.

Crystal Palace adopted a 3 year after care programme back in January, for released players between the ages of 18 - 23.

Mainly to offer those players support in finding a new club, education programmes or in finding a new job.
Which is not only the correct thing to do but also genius in terms of recruitment. All parents will be trying to send their kids to the palace academy.

If that is the case, then fair enough, each ti their own likes etc, no issues there, however, there is a growing number of people that are, hence why there was over 20k people at Old Trafford for the women's game against Everton this very season.

Yeah, completely agree. I'm not a massive follower of the women's game, but I do keep an eye on how the United team are doing. I just thought I would try to give you what may be an honest answer. I could be completely wrong though of course

No worries at all, I understand fully that the women's team sadly to everyone's liking right now, and that is fair enough, as everyone is free to like whatever they wish.

However there are as I say a growing number of people for whom the women's team is a great passion of theirs, and it is just thus dismissive attitude towards those people and the women's side of things that really grinds my gears so to speak.

Is someone here dismissing them?

That and we've also helped them with Wan Bissaka's money to build a new £20m academy building and gain Cat 1 youth status.
