Then why has there been such a negative backlash to this (legitimate) complaint?

I'll answer, because it where the message comes from matters. Perhaps it shouldn't but we live in the real world.
Where the message comes from matters to people who have something personal against the messenger (hatred, spite, envy...)

In the real world, people also know how to separate the message from the messenger.

Everyone who says what he thinks is appropriate, but if someone says a fallacy ad hominem will lose the debate at the moment.

I don't live in England, I assume most of you do. Is Frank Lampard seen as a much bigger legend of football than Steven Gerrard because instead of winning the CL with multiple CL/EC winning club Liverpool, he won it with Chelsea, in their first ever title?

So 99.5% of football fans then, which is who the message is for.

To each his own, I have hard time criticizing his choice. It's not just about one aspect of football, we need to put ourselves in player's shoes and consider all the numerous things concerning them.
well, it is always big news for a club to win the CL
but from the message i was responding i took that it would be history of football.
nobody outside PSG would think that.

i can give that it is risky because everybody expects PSG to win it eventually and if he doesn't it is a very big flop. besides, nobody cares about what he does domestically.

Yeah, I am drinking in the tears of La Liga and Real. I mean, seriously, feck them at being upset they aren't the biggest swinging d*cks at the party anymore after fecking everyone else for years. They can complain all they want, but let's be real, special tax deals, dodgy land swaps (no the Real one wasn't fine because the City grew; I mean look at all the land swaps they did. For instance, when selling their training ground in 1998 they got given a piece of land valued at €420k then in 2011 the council decided that land's value had increased by over 5200% and gave them €22.7m for it; then it turned out the council didn't even own the land, as it was public land in 1998, so didn't even have the right to transfer ownership then.) Then there is also how Real and Barca hoovered up all the domestic money to the detriment of all the other teams in Spain, so I have absolutely no sympathy whatsoever. Zero. Nada.

That said, this deal in particular is eye opening, however I have no confidence that anything will be done as PSG have brought their way to the top table of UEFA. At least they play in a sh*t league.
can you read the post from laliga and enumerate the points it makes that you don't agree with? or it is just pure hate?

"special tax" was a law thought from the goverment to bring talent (science) from abroad, but football clubs could use it. not their fault and the government quickly changed the rule.

the training facilities issues was investigated even from the EU (result: not guilty). i can buy that there were some "favors" but they were more related to timing than what would eventually happen.

and about tv rights, you got the story totally wrong. barca and real actually wanted to sell the complete package, but the likes of sevilla, deportivo, etc. were greedy and preferred to sell individually. it worked fine for them at the beginning but it was a disaster afterwards. deportivo is today in 3rd division.

For Chelsea and their fans absolutely. One of the perplexing things about these conversation is that for some reason people think that things are judged globally or that people feel on a global range. For most people it's a lot more important to mark the history of something that is close to them than pleasing strangers and things that are far from them.

The last tweet is bang on. It's rich coming from Real but it doesn't make it any less true. It's absolutely mental what PSG is doing
We need a proper discussion about football finances. Despite commercial dopping, by 2024 PSG are on course to accumulate more than 1 billion euros worth of losses over a five year period. Football has to decide if that is acceptable.

The La Liga stuff is hilarious but PSG do need to be out in their place tbh.

Is it the CAS that's the problem here? These appeals always seem to work
Because the law saying UEFA can impose capital restrictions on owners is very weak and UEFA know this. In fact, some experts think FFP is illegal.

This is absolute non sense. While I don't like Qatar, they're not burning anything, it's even the opposite. PSG is part of a huge policy aiming at diversifying assets for the country. PSG as a club and brand is now worth more than what Qatar invested. It's now worth between 1.8-2.5 billions depending on the outlets (and that's without counting the new infractructure that is to be finished in a year or two) when Qatar invested 1.5-2 billions.

100m + 48m sound more reasonable, and similar to what Real is offering
The number is probably higher then.

PSG have given him a three year contract renewal. RM would have offered a longer contract, five-six seasons probably. If the yearly wages are similar, then the RM contract would have been dramatically better than the PSG contract, because of the much longer length.

If he took a much worse contract to stay at PSG they'd be broadcasting that to the high heavens but they aren't.

My issue with that argument is that Football isn't traditional a money making business, that tweet and the way many people talk about it is a fairly recent logic. Football and sport in general is mainly build on patronage and money is lost by owners.

I get that many people think that Football should only be a business but it's not an universal idea and there is no good reason to support that idea either since it's completely unrealistic for 99% of clubs.
Sure and I'd probably be fine with that too. Thing is though, there's supposed to be FFP and 'normal' clubs are expected to adhere to it. Then you have the Citys PSGs of this world making a mockery of it.

But FFP is a sham and should never be supported by Football fans unless they support big clubs.

They've taken on both Barcelona and Real Madrid now and won twice. Outside the football field. They must hate them.

This is an adorable narrative which is completely undermined by the fact that Mbappe said he asked PSG for a move last summer. He said in an interview that he had given everything to Paris, had been in France for 6-7 years, and that leaving was the next logical step. And then he said that after the move failed, he got injured with the NT and went home and cried about the failed move.

So what, he changed his mind? He hadn't realized that winning a CL with France was important until after this summer? He ran the numbers in the calculator again and it said "actually it's 9-10 years that is enough, not 6-7, you dropped a remainder somewhere"?

This must be some kind of new money thing where PSG/Ligue 1 fans are still insecure about having it. What is so hard about admitting that you can throw a pile of money at a problem to solve it? That's what the money is for! It's not there to collect interest!

I'll never deny Qatar throws huge piles of money, but i'm not admitting it's the reason why Mbappé stayed because it goes against everything we know about Mbappé, and we know a lot. He's a smart kid, his lifestyle is pretty reasonable considering his fame/wealth, he listens to his family but isn't dependent on them etc. Anybody who knows Mbappé say it's impossible that money was the deciding factor.

What we hear in France about the whole thing is that he might get a bit more money but it's not that significant. It seems (according to french journalists) that it's the fact that they were building the project around him that convinced him.

Now "building the project around him" doesn't mean he takes the decisions. The rumors are that Luis Campos might arrive as director of football and that they are in talks with Zidane to bing him as coach, Mbappé isn't going to tell Campos who to buy and isn't going to build the team for Zidane, but he'll probably be able to voice his opinion and it'll be taken into account. Mbappé obviously didn't fire Leonardo but it's likely PSG told him what they were about to do and encouraged some big changes in the club.

Adorable in which way, do you care about who is Werder Bremen most loved player? Should your opinion on the matter concern that player?

They have not been stripped of a thing by the UEFA, the Tapie case is about VA vs OM in 1993.
They were banned from defending the European cup the following season and not allowed to participate in the super cup or intercontinental cup. Was a very long time ago so i got a few things wrong, will raise my hands to that. They cheated thus its tainted and PSG could with mbappe win legitimately frances 1st european cup.

Whole thing stinks and looking at a few responses in here and Lineker's tweet the agenda is clear blatantly ignoring the elephant in the room.

No one should be celebrating Madrid didn't get there man or laughing at them you are slowly watching football be destroyed by the oil states and all competitive integrity.

You can even find city fans posting about PSG claiming look at these figures we got haaland for x amount and they say we are destroying football.

Sportswashing is working fantastically and many people are completely ignorant as it benefits them (City fans) or would rather point score over old rivals then see the huge damage that is happening to the game.

Lampard is a legendary player for chelsea and helping chelsea become a team to lift the CL for the first time is a huge accomplishment.

The issue with Madrid is they win it so often that what differentiates win number 11 from 12 or 13 or 14 or 15? Nothig really. Whereas legitimately winning the CL while for the first time in the 5th/6th strongest league will mean alot more. Mbappe could be the catalyst that helps PSG win mulitple CL titles.

That ban was due to the VA-OM and the on going investigation, it had nothing to do with the CL and the UEFA never stripped it.

That shipped sailed alongtime ago. Very big business is involved in football and they dont care what we the fans think. As awful as a ESL sounds it will happen. The gulf between the elite clubs and the rest will grow bigger and bigger.

Wait till newcastle become competitive and then there will be an arms race between them and city. As awful as it sounds thats the future unfortunately.

Blaming oil states for destroying football is abit rich from madrid seeing as they kept breaking the transfer record during the galactico era and perez did his dodgy training ground deals to make Madrid cash rich.

I think Madrid go all out for Salah now.....they have to.
Yep, there really isn’t any other player available at that level - in that position. Would be a terrific icing on the cake it madrid destroy pool only to announce the Salah deal at the trophy presentation  (just let me live in my own world a little).

It's not really plausible that the offers are the same.

PSG have signed him to a three-year renewal. Real Madrid would have offered a new contract, which would have not been a three year contract, it would have been a six year contract.

An offer from PSG that pays the same total amount but only in three years is far, far better. An offer from RM that pays the same yearly amount but for twice the time is far, far better.

if PSG were offering just a little bit more money but only for three years he's essentially making a huge sacrifice to stay there. If that were the case, then why wouldn't Mbappe and PSG publicize this to the high heavens, instead of saying "oh the offers are actually the same"? C'mon.

I hope we eventually get to see him in a top league but I’ll be honest, the reaction from Real and La Liga is embarrassing. They’ve dominated La Liga for years by hoarding all the tv revenue, obviously a different situation to PSG, but it shows they only care when it’s themselves who are effected.

That said, football clubs making those losses and being propped up by oil states is grim but the horse bolted long ago on that.

I think we’ll see Mbappe doing the same thing in three years time, after another three titles and no Champions Leagues. They simply don’t have enough top level challenges through their domestic season to win it. The best they can hope for is a similar draw to 2020 against Leipzig and Atalanta to get through to a final.

Do madrid need salah though? Surely the money saved from mbappe deal should be spent on getting best possible long term replacements for kroos and modric. A almost impossible task.

Did you read what i posted? I said i got a few facts wrong. They were still banned from competing next season in CL therefore guilty.
Let's be clear here. Marseille were "banned" because they were stripped of their league title and therefore not champions. In practice PSG were champions but they declined the title which led to Monaco being the club representing France. The UEFA didn't ban Marseille, the french league did and the UEFA didn't strip the CL either because it had nothing to do with it.

Way too many pages here and in the transfer forum already, so what are @giorno 's feelings on the matter?
Feck him and his little dog too, hope PSG fold in the summer and when he comes back to us begging to sign him we offer him Lunin-level wages take it or leave it :D

Less spontaneously, i don't care that much. This team doesn't really need Mbappé right now. It needs midfielders and wingbacks. In attack we just need some quality backups
