I don't think our squad is poor, but it's also not fit for purpose. It has a lot of good players, but they suit different types of football styles.

Hopefully ten Hag letting AWB go is the start of having a manager who can sign a player or let one go not based on his ablity, but his ability to fit his system.

I don’t agree that the current squad is all that bad. The best squad in the world will look poor if managed poorly. With two or three additions we should be all sorted.
That’s true… top managers/coaches can get the best out of average players and make them look world class. 3/4 signings can make our team look and play a whole lot better.

This would be pretty good for ETH to start next year i think:

Sancho Ronaldo Antony
Bruno
Neves De Jong
Shaw Varane Timber Dalot (for now) - that's only 4 signings.

Ten Hag’s team also has the element of pressing from Rangnick’s school (Hence why Rangnick nominated him at first when our board preferred Pochettino). In your midfield trio of Bruno, Neves, De Jong I don’t see much pressing and fresh legs in there. Rather all 3 of them are the type to need “water carriers” around them to do the combative aspect more effectively.

Take Real’s midfield for example, Modric and Kroos need Casemiro to do the meatier works (with Kroos already has a bit of steel in him even). City’s midfield through years is very elegant, yet they still need Fernandinho’s legs for combating. We still need a specialist DM (combatant type) for our midfield to work.

Very accurate description.

We have a group of players who suit counter attack, others who suit a slower continental style and only a few who can play the heavy metal press style.

This is what happens when you change manager every few years and have no plan. You get a squad of players that don't suit each other.

I hope he's given them a priority list of top 3 candidates per position. By the time he's back from leave they should all be signed, God damn it.

Finally we have someone sane in the house. I’ve been banging on for years to for us to sort out midfield first and foremost before any other positions. You can have best defenders and strikers but if you have midfield that’s championship level you’re getting nowhere.

That does sound sensible, although links to midfielders have been pretty thin on the ground. De Jong and Kante are the only real ones at this point in time and neither of those seem to be concrete yet.

I just hope we can get some signings over the line soon. Plenty of teams have already got some business done, and we need more than most.

Why do we never go for smart signings… people like the young cm from mgladbach think he’s called kone. We never take gambles on people like this where as Liverpool do and it pays off more often then not. Wouldn’t cost ridiculous price aswell. The players that are not as well know could be the players we turn into world class stars like we use to do..

Agree that he is not the most technically gifted player and didnt play well last year but I am not sure on what basis people are branding him as toxic.
He never issued any wrong statements about club or openly defended his friends, so what wrong he did?

Most of our players were average last year because of sudden adjustment to Ronaldo's arrival / Management changes and it had impact on the whole team so better we give everyone a clean sheet and start from the scratch.

We have many other pressing issues than Rashford at this moment and hopefully Rashford comes good under Ten Hag's coaching methods.
The reason he has been branded toxic by some isn't some secret. Off the pitch he has been fingered for some of those leaks. It's been alarming to see the double standard applied for leaks when it was Lingard versus when it was Rashford. His PR has also thrown people under the bus to save his skin, ole being one. There's now the stuff about asking for assurances about his role going forward after possibly being the worst performer of the last 6 months.

If one doesn't do the kind of speculation above then there's still the issue of showing a bad attitude on the pitch. Very fitting that our new assistant manager actually called him for his body language months ago. Let's recap he leaks like Lingard, played lazier with worse body language than Martial and had a similar circus to the type Pogba got crucified for. Excuse me for saying but I can absolutely see where these people are coming from.

We are so sluggish in the transfer market despite having a brand new manager.

If we need to wait for transfer out before we buy, then it won’t have anyone at all.
Nobody would want to buy our players bar perhaps DDG and Bruno, who both would not be cheap and we won’t want to sell anyway.

Another nonsense tweet to make fans panic over transfers, feckin idiot journos.
Only yesterday Ten Hag was supposedly only concerned with the midfield before thinking about defence and attack so this journo names a defender and attacker as priority

So first it says ten Hag wants to prioritise midfield signings before any other position and then it says ten Hag has told United to make timber and Darwin a priority! What a load of bull coming from somewhere..

Ten Hag knows he isn't winning anything with a midfield of Mctominey and Fred. Has to be the priority to buy 2 midfielders that go straight in to the starting 11.
For me it's 2 centre midfields, CF and CB/RB so going with Timber here as covers both them postions by sounds of it. If he manages to get rid of a couple players for decent fee then we can see him get 1 more player in.

We need 5 new players this transfer window.

Wonder if someone has promised to sign for Erik before he goes off on holiday, a la Gazza with Fergie famously.

Some people can form opinions without propaganda, just by watching football. Those opinions may be right and might be wrong, but they are not due to brainwashing.

In any event, if you'll actually take a second to read what I wrote again, you'll realise I do not believe this squad is capable of taking us places - just that the reason is not a lack of individual quality.

We can't bin the whole lot off in one year. This is a long-term rebuild; some of these players might well look better under a competent manager so I'm perfectly happy to wait and see how it plays out.

Why are they allowed to consider anything? Their minds should be made up for them. We need to start being ruthless, if they aren’t up to standard then shift them on. The days of just hanging around picking up a wage should be over, I know it’s easier said than done to get rid these players with the wages they’re on but if we have to take a hit then so be it. As long as we’ve got a clean slate with players who want to be here and are of the required quality, it’s obviously not going to be a quick fix and will take a few windows to get it done.

There should be nothing for Bailly, Jones, Martial, and AWB to "consider". If they're not in our plans, they're not in our plans.

we need two CM’s, a CB, a LB, a RB, a RW and a striker - some would argue a GK too

we’re obviously not getting all that, but “two or three” won’t sort us past maybe 5th place

even if we ignore some of those positions, we have the worst full backs or at least top5 worst full backs in the league and our midfield is nonexistent

We are literally just days into the new regime. All sound good so far. Let's see if Erik can affect a much needed change. He looks confident, so, based on little else, I am confident.

No one knows how it’s all gonna pan out under ETH but one thing i have noticed and is becoming more clear is the players performances under him. His ability to elevate mediocre players into world beaters. The players playing under him look like world class because of his coaching just like klopp. The sample size is big enough to deduce that. Van de beek, Haller, Ziyech, De ligt, Tadic, Neres, now de jong at Barca have never replicated anything close at their respective clubs to what they have shown under him.

That gives me great hope because more than anything some of the players in our squad and our club in general need that. You can’t go and buy players for every position everytime to fill a gap. You need a coach who can also devolop young players and enhance the experienced ones ability through coaching just like at Ajax. Either it’s this or they all looked good at Ajax under him because Eredivisie is shit and they stood out because of that but then again they performed in Europe too.
