Lindelof and Bailly were both his choices and after those he wanted a finished Alderweireld, a finished Boateng or Maguire who this forum thinks is shite. His talent ID is rubbish these days.
Lindelof and bailly were compromise choices as spending £70mil on a top elite talent was ruled out back then.

Our scouting has alot to answer for, to the point Ole employed his own scout reporting directly to him. That says alot about our scouting dept under woodwards reign.

If it's true, he should definitely do it. He hasn't had a squad of PSG's level since Madrid in 2012, literally 10 years ago. A chance to compete at the highest level again, try for the CL again with an infinite pool of money... He would be foolish to turn that down. Ok, maybe not foolish, but I want to see it!

I believed he was finished but maybe a squad on this level + the way José is as a coach and a person could finally win it for them.

Who told you that? We broke the transfer record on Pogba and spent 75m on Lukaku the following summer.

You are just making up things, in 2016 and 2017 no club spent 70 million pounds on defenders.

When Lindelof and Bailly were signed, they were around top 10 in transfer fee paid for CBs. Also Lindelof was always at top of CBs that Jose wanted to sign as per his mouthpiece Duncan Castles.

Talking about personal scout, Jose using his personal network signed Dalot when Leicester signed better RB from same club for around same price, player who is miles better than Dalot and a player who would have addressed weak position instead of relying on Ashley Young.

Before people right off Mourinho, its worth remembering that Luis Campos is coming in as director of football to replace Leonardo at PSG. Mourinho and Campos get on well togther, having worked together at Madrid. Mourinho recommended Campos to Utd board as a director of football and Campos even said in an interview when Mourinho was at spurs that he'd be willing to go to spurs to work with Jose.

So no smoke no fire....would be hilarious to watch. Forget Bayern being FC Hollywood. Mourinho trying to shape that squad of egos would be so worth a watch.

There was alot written and spoken about the issues with utd defence and Mourinho having to compromise on signings. Mourinhos personal mouthpiece Duncan Castles covered it extensively on the Transfer Window Podcast and in the papers. When Mourinho was at Utd Castles probably knew more about what was going on than any other journalists as he had access to Mourinhos inner circle.

Lets not forget about the PR games Jose played, he was such a poisonous cnut, shame how fans still fall for his gimmicks.

On Duncan Castles, yes he was Jose's and Mendes mouthpiece.

C-c-called a U-turn
‘Manchester United have opened discussions with Benfica over the January transfer of Sweden international Victor Lindelof. According to sources familiar with the negotiations, Lindelof is first on a list of central defenders drawn up by Jose Mourinho to strengthen a back four that has proved problematic during the new Old Trafford manager’s initial months at the club’ – Duncan Castles, Daily Record, December 2, 2016.

‘Manchester United have agreed an initial fee of €35million for the transfer of Sweden international Victor Lindelof from Benfica. As reported by Record Sport Online in December, the Old Trafford manager asked United to bring Lindelof to Old Trafford in the winter window. Benfica, however, demanded an unrealistic fee of €60m before extending the Swede’s contract to 2021 on substantially improved terms. Lindelof’s ability to build play from the back is understood to be an important factor in Mourinho’s pursuit of the player’ – Duncan Castles, Daily Record, June 11, 2017.

‘A year ago, United settled on Victor Lindelof because the Benfica-based Swede was cheaper than more polished options’ – Duncan Castles, Sunday Times, July 29.

You have to admire the dedication. When all looked well – Mourinho’s man. When it went badly – United settled (and screwed over Mourinho in the process). Well done Duncan.

Does he have the ability to do that anymore? His teams haven't been defensively great for years.
I think the players he's had since Chelsea haven't been willing to play the kind of shithouse football he likes to employ. When they kind of do, he generally wins something

Mourinho isn't leaving Roma right now. He's finally found a club where he's genuinely beloved by everyone, doesn't have to fight his players or management and is happy again

No chance he leaves that, especially for this iteration of PSG
I think you are underestimating how much Mourinho loves Mourinho and the spotlight.

PSG is free trophies for his collection and the chance to be the first man to bring them a CL. It would be a chance to take on his rivals once again on an equal footing and to have all the glory/attention that comes with big games.

Mourinho looks out for Mourinho, and unless he has changed his outlook on life, I think he would jump at the chance for one final big job to add more titles to his selection.

The fact that he would have a friend there to watch over him seals the deal. I think, despite him enjoying Roma, he would jump at the chance of being back at one of the elite clubs.

On a 1 year or 2 thing this might slap.

Good 1 on 1 defenders, workhorse midfield, front three that don't require coaching. All that is required is setting up a competent defensive shape and you let the front players cook. Mourinho doesn't need to do a lot to suceed. That's exactly what Ancelotti did this year. if he doesnt fight any of the players which usually doesn't happen until the 2nd or 3rd season he will win the CL again.

Aye, don’t doubt he’s really enjoying himself at Roma but someone with that drive and ego would take that chance at PSG. Guaranteed league title and cups in yet another country and as you said first chance at CL and a genuine chance too.

He could've stopped signing shit defenders if he wanted to improve the defence.

I doubt be is happy with the player power there though, not seeing it happen unless he gets to do things his way.

I feel like Conte and PSG will eventually happen. Just seems ideal for what he wants some control over purchases, short period with the club and the opportunity to manage a competitive squad on paper.

It would be so funny to a) see Conte walk out on spurs and b) the reaction of the psg squad to a sergeant major like conte turn up with his double training sessions.

Lets see neymar get the week of march 11th off under Conte, for his sisters birthday by either feigning injury or suddnely getting enough yellow cards to get a suspension.

I think he would do well there as they already have plenty of attack talent and their struggle is a lack of balance and discipline.

Their problem has been creating chances and moving the ball. Not discipline and defensive balance.

Will be such a stupid thing to get Jose. Players on silly money and ego vs Jose is always popcorn time.

He will still solve that and more important their lack of spine.
He will solve something that he hasn't solved for anyone in almost a decade? You have more faith than his history warrants.

If he get's this gig, I'm putting money on PSG to win the CL, and I haven't had a bet in years!
I wound't be so sure. Jose ball is all about players buying into seige mentality. And then ready to give their maximum to play in the way Jose wants.
And if you are slacking (in Jose's terms), then he will try to get a reaction by talking about them in public. And if the players doesn't react in the way Jose wants, he will ask for throwing them out.

All this is not possible unless all players and entire admin is in tune for that. In the modern era where players, agents have full control it is very difficult.

Maybe time for new contract for Jose, his media buddies write some nonsense and clubs gives him new contract to beat the non existent competition.

My thoughts exactly. He'll bench Neymar 2 months in and say he doesn't have good enough attackers. PSG will be an even more entertaining clusterfcuk than usual.

That would not be undeserved if it happens. It is about time someone puts that little shit in his place.

United minus the Glazers
Mou has a chance to cement his place in Roma folklore by rejecting PSG. In any case, would be difficult turning down the chance to potentially win another CL trophy.

He might be but his CL record hasn't been great over the last decade. Basically his last good CL campaign was with Real in 2012 when they got knocked out vs Bayern on penalties. He'd have quality players in his PSG team though so would have some chances of winning the CL again.
Mourinho got to consecutive Semi Finals in 2013 and 2014 too. I'd call those good CL campaigns as well.

You're probably right but still - Nani's red card played a big part in them beating us and then they got through against Galatasaray I think, before losing to Dortmund with that 4-1 loss in Germany. In 2014 Chelsea got knocked out vs Atletico at home (yes Atletico were great team back then) and I remember Chelsea fans being angry about Mourinho's tactics etc.

People mostly remember how Mourinho's Real got beaten 1-4 by Dortmund, but failed to remember they won 2-0 in the returning leg (VERY CLOSE to a legendary 3-0 comeback to advance to Final). I watched that match and was amazed at how Bernabéu was rocking and Madrid was displaying indomitable will (Very similar to our Fergie-time moments).

So I still consider 2013 as a heroic year of Jose in Europe. Jose lost to Atletico in 2014 pathetically, but that was also an incomplete Chelsea team. Jose finished "building" that team in the following summer (Adding Fabregas, Costa, Luis...and Matic was coming into form).

I'm not sure what point you're making here considering how they went out(and to whom) in '15...
