Your over the top reaction and claiming that he's 'up his own arse' was embarrassing
Fair enough just sick to the back teeth of this transfer already. Maybe I am being hysterical but we've all been burned too many times and it gets bloody tiresome.

I think thats why Barca aren't willing to sell him cheaply now, they know they dont need to sell him now.
At what cost? Because if there were no consequences it would be when not if.

The sheer amount or negativity in this thread is a real mood killer.
Right - I’m going to add to it by finding another reason why it might not happen :)

Barcelona are screwed because of all the mental wages they’ve been paying. Presumably Frenkie’s no exception. Maybe United are serious about getting the wages structure under control and won’t match what he’s on currently? That’s more likely to put him off than no CL or the awful weather.

If this is indeed the case, I’d find it very hard to criticise United, given where we are with all the impossible-to-shift deadwood. Ok Frenkie is hardly deadwood right now, but in the future…

Not a big fan of Lindelof myself, but I won’t get into his ineptness as I’ll be here all day.

last season he was out a fair bit with back problems and dropped from the recent Swedish squad because of the same

varane is made of glass

maguire had a few niggling ones and a huge loss of form

no matic to cover anymore.

Bailly and Jones want out allegedly

McTominay to cover? Did you see him versus ireland?

we NEED a cb, even if it’s a young and learning type
You don't want to get into the ineptness of Lindelof but Maguire has just had a few niggling ones and is out of form yea? Even then he was 2x the player Harry was this season. If anything we should start Varane and Lindelof but ofcourse that ain't gonna happen.

I do agree we need another CB though. still think FW is much more of a priority.

Nobody just has a meeting to find 500m. You know long before the meeting whether you have it or not. It’s not like it’s some loose change down the back of the couch.

These threads are always a roller coaster. 99% of the tweets are nonsense. People get crazily invested. It was better in the days of teletext. You’d just find out we were interested in a player because he’d signed.

People like to harp on about the old days but the constant news (yes even disappointments) are a godsend compared to the lack of any news we had during that time.

This is what i said; - Eriksen as an alternative doesn't mean he would play in the same role or that he is similar to Frenckie de Jong.

I think it was clear i'm talking about alternatives on the market, not similar players for the same position/role.
If I’m honest I don’t really understand how it’s an alternative as we would still be short in centre midfield so would need to buy some one else who would be the alternative to de jong. Maybe I’m been thick and apologies if so.

It’ll take along time to sort out any deals. Look how long their Spotify deal took to land. They need this money now

I find it kind of surprising the caf doesn't mind him getting these wages... is he actually worth it?
Honestly - I don't know.

Ajax "system player" struggling a bit outside the system...I mean, it's hardly an outlandish idea.

I do think he's got more meat on his bones than someone like DVB, though.

ETA Plus - there's the ETH factor. If he does end up at United, he'll be working under someone who should know precisely how to play to his strengths.

Negative news so it must be true. Classic SadCafe.
In fairness, as of right now, it seems like you won’t get him unless you bid an absurd amount. He stated he is happy to be at barcelona so it’s unlikely he is going to force a move.

I can’t see this deal happening the United news for this deal is more hope than anything else.

To be honest this thread is pretty much exactly like all our summer signing threads from the past. They always follow this trend. Give it another two weeks. Stay calm.

Yes, the club is a shambles but if the transfer window goes poorly at least it should encourage further Glazer protests. See it as a win-win. I'm calm.

We shouldn't be looking for a 'true DM' if we get De Jong - with Frenkie in midfield, a box to box CM is much more desirable. Positionally, De Jong is a DM, he just isn't a destructive player stylistically.
McTom could work box to box to be honest. He can't really be trusted defensively and seems better when getting into the opposition half moving forwards using his physicality. I wonder if he'd actually work well alongside a FDJ in this case. Would need a hell of a lot of coaching positionally though I'd imagine ETH would be the type to apply that.

He probably is happy (enough). But then again, his statements could easily be tactical: he won't come out saying that he'd love to play for Manchester United (under ETH) because that would hurt Barca's negotiation position - and he doesn't want that (he clearly isn't desperate to leave).

Best case scenario (if you want us to sign FDJ) - he's just being professional. He knows a transfer is inevitable: he's actually considered expendable by Barca given their financial situation, and he knows this, but he wants to help them (and himself, I suppose) get the best deal possible.

I’m sure there proposal still needs the prove the incentives will land. They still have players they cannot register due to money.

Maguire I consider out of form because I thought last season he was probably our best CB. This season just past he was woeful. Whereas yes Lindelof had a short decent spell last season but reverted to type. I think after 6 seasons of the same that it’s safe to say he’s not good enough. To be honest, I’m surprised he still has people considering that he’s good enough and defending his performances! My mind boggles at that.
But anyway, my main point was that they all had injuries and were all out at various times so I don’t think we should rely on that 3 to complete the season

Its all bluffing to show a strong hand Barca can't be shown to be in financial ruin, just standard brinkmanship used in all businesses.

Just to let everyone know.. The Sancho deal was exactly like this for long spells too.. Very little from the english media at first and dribs and drabs from the German media, right up until the point when it was done to be honest.

We obviously have a process that we follow which includes telling a small group of respected journalists when there is an update which we want them to put out.

Until then, it's all just guess work and people trying to get attention I think

Gotta love this place during silly season... whenever positive news comes out, people are so quick to denounce it and say its BS, but as soon as something negative is said, it's the truth, lock the thread, it's over. Muppets are broken after the years of crap we've been through it seems.

Seems safe to say nothing new is coming out at the moment so people are just recycling old news and passing it off as new in the hopes that it generates more traffic and clicks for them.

He’s a deep lying playmaker. Just because he plays deeper on the pitch doesn’t mean he’s good defensively. Ffs, he’s in the 3rd percentile in pressures, 8th percentile in tackles. For him to be really effective, he needs to be paired with a quality DM.

We've now entered the real testing time for this transfer. Post euro games, pre pre-season training. If we don't close this by the next week i think the chances will dwindle. Just my thoughts though. I'm not getting "hysterical" or anything

De Jong is better defensively than McTominay. I want a more physical and defensive partner for him if he joins, but if Scott can play with Fred at places like the Etihad and mot get overrun, O have faith in De Jong too. Because Scott is useless.
