How was Ole forced to get Maguire ? Ole, and Jose before him, wanted slab-head. Maguire was the signing that was going to be the new bedrock of Ole's United. The first piece of the United's backbone.

I have no beef with him giving away second chances....who knows, he might even make a player out of some of them.

But, i'm quite certain he will bring in one of his former players, a familiar face to incorporate the style of football he cherishes.

A current or a former Ajax player of his is a sure thing.
I'm the opposite, i'm taking a lot of issue with giving players a "2nd chance"

While in theory the logic is sound, we have very little players who have played under only 1 manager here.

So what i'm getting at is, a large crop of our players have underperformed over multiple managers, for multiple seasons.

Is Phil Jones suddenly going to take a chance and become the CB fergie proclaimed? Doubt it

After god knows how many season is Martial going to look interested and start performing consistently? What evidence have we got to suggest he will. None

You get the gist - we have a squad of PROVEN underachievers. We need an overhaul it's as simple as that

The bulk of the squad have also looked inept over at least 3 managers, thats telling me that it's the players attitude and commitment causing some issue. ETH is apparently ruthless and keen on discipline. He'll get nowhere with this squad

He wasn’t forced. He wanted him and made him Captain.

Gotta bring in that customary back-up GK.
It's mental that we might loan out Henderson with some of his wages being covered by us and then spend money on a backup goalie. So instead of Henderson bringing in £20-30m to supplement our budget and freeing up £100k in wages we end up with a smaller budget and be weaker in terms of goalie depth.

Must be nice in your world, where you can write numerous players off after a bad season, then have clubs willing to pay a decent fee for them and have funds available to replace them. In reality Ten Hag needs to work with what he has and slowly replace them.

I really wish we'd tell Barca to piss off and we'd do some other astute signings. The whole FDJ saga gives me the same vibes as other dragged out transfers (see Dembele, Lewa, Mbappe etc). But maybe that's the whole idea of the transfer tweets I guess.

The Sports Area is waiting for the levers to be activated to sign.
✅ 3 priorities:
Lewandoswki (submit it before July 15)
Bernardo Silva (Laporta-Mendes talks)
Koundé
❌ Some time ago we told that they want to sell to @DeJongFrenkie21 and continue with the idea

Ultimately, it remains the case that Barca need to sell to be able to buy, regardless of how much of the club's future they pawn off to the highest bidder.

If they can't get a deal for FDJ over the line with United, you would expect them to start trying to flog him somewhere else.

Posted in the United thread as it's dependent and therefore relevant to United signing FdJ
Just swap players and get it over with

Maybe City don't believe FdJ is worth 80M.

I don't think he fits Pep's style of football.
It's possible. They have Rodri as a single pivot right now. If they go to FdJ instead it's not clear it's an upgrade and they still have to get another, more defensive capable player next to him.

So no FdJ, KdB, Gundogan midfield for them.

If they play Rodri, FdJ, KdB, you run into the same issue as Barca and won't get the best out of him.

Another Pogba like issue where neither city nor Barca wants to build their midfield around him.

This makes no sense to me. They need rid of Frenkie as they're broke but they want to spend 100m on Bernardo. What are they at?
I think its got something to do with basically moving money around to satisfy some financial conditions, I'm sure someone else can fill you in better. Sounds a bit shady to me but it is the football world I guess.

Agreed. Surely it can't be the wages as I'm sure Silva is earning a tidy sum. I'm not sure Barca believes FdJ to be a good fit, it's not just about the money.

They are broke but have been linked with several high-class players. Something is off.

It answers the question ‘where will Woody & Judge work post United?’.

they bank the 75 million now (assuming UTD agree to that, which is probably where the hold up is) and the Silva money is paid over 5 years in installments, unless of course Pep fancies a straight swap, perhaps Barca are angling for that?

Missing out on Eriksen will be a blow. Not panic stations just yet but starting to feel tetchy. The inevitable inactivity over the weekend will not help either.

Giving many players second chances doesn't mean everyone gets second chances. The two you mentioned are probably close to the worst examples from our squad. Players who had a shit season this last season, like Rashford, Maguire etc will still need second chances, even if they are in a completely different category to Jones & Martial.

Really, since when did he become bipolar? Either A) This is bullshit, or B) He has gotten the impression his power as a player is out the window with ETH, and he does not accept that. In which case its a good thing. Dunno why an italian newspaper would be the breaker of such news though...

Ya no idea how reliable it is. Generally La Repubblica is a pretty well respected paper though which is why I sent it. Don't know the track record of the specific journalist though. It does seem weird to me that an Italian paper would get it first unless an Italian team is actively seeking to sign him maybe?

I know it's bull, but at some point could be superb news.

He could leave now, for fresh players to come. His wages alone could cover lot of expenses.
That's if you take Ronaldos wages in isolation, we probably gain a fair bit in sponsorship from having one of the most marketable athletes in the world at the club, and if we don't we should be.

So I doubt removing him would free up all that much money

It would be fine if we didn't already need shit loads of players, him leaving leaves us with 0 actual strikers. And there's such a lack of striker options in the window as it is.

I'm sometimes very tempted to take that risk and thank him for everything right now and finally try to open new chapter at United, rather than demand from a veteran carrying the team till he's 40.
