What do you make of DeJong?
Im not totally sure to be honest. He looked amazing for Ajax. Nailed on future world class playmaker. From what I can gather he joined Barca at a weird time where none of their big money signings really kicked on. Can ETH get him back on course and then some? Will FDJ finally be the guy to make the midfield tick again? Is he just going to be jogging around keeping it simple? Can he compete aggressively enough to win PL midfield battles and have we enough quality to complement him? As far as names on a page go he’s the best midfielder we can buy this summer for sure so what more can we ask? I’m excited about any new signings but this summer I’m more excited about what the new manager intends to bring to the table.

It's actually done. A real playmaking midfielder. Our first really since Carrick.

He will be sensational for us.
Well, he doesn’t play like Carrick or Alonso. Different type completely. But he is what ETH needs as we all understand and agree.

This is a very expensive acquisition in the current economic atmosphere. Hope De Jong can contribute significantly for years.
A DM just went for 100m and so did a striker coming off his first good season, this transfer market is as bloated as ever.

80m for him is apt tbf

These are normal prices nowadays when players like Kalvin Phillips go for 50m and West Ham demand 120m for Declan Rice. 80-100m is the new 35m back in the day of Aguero, David Silva, Hazard and the rest of them.

68 is a decent price. Barca wanted something ridiculous like 80 initially right?
Good job.
Hope the wages aren't insane.

You're going to have to keep waiting. He excels at build up play from the back, ball carrying, resisting press, dribbling, and making runs with the ball from box to box. He is capable of making the exquisite pass here and there with remarkable technique, but his primary function is not as a playmaker. He is our first ball playing midfield signing since Pogba though so that's something to be excited about, if the rumours are true of course.

Breaking news: Murtough and Arnold are now willing to go as high as £11.50 and a seat for the first game of the season.

If a board of any other business behaved like this, the company would be out of business in a couple of weeks. Do some bloody work - and that doesn't mean popping into your local to talk bollox with the fans

I don’t think there is any midfield player can single-handedly compete in EPL. It’s the team and system. I don’t think we need a destroyer type of midfielder as well. ETH won’t go for that direction I think.
its an expensive acquisition but everyone will be like you to be excited!

It's a great signing if true but until we get a decent DM we still aren't good for much. Same situation as last year in fact. That remains the key.

given how long this is taking, it will take ETH the whole length of his contract to get in the players he wants... the management of our club is a joke and is the reason we are where we are. nothing has changed, Woodward might a well still be here

I think he looks a fantastic player. He looks the most Modric player I’ve seen since, well Modric. For us to get a player of his quality in the position we are in is frankly quite ridiculous. He will make the world of difference to us because he’s what we’ve needed for years. He will replace McT I would think and that upgrade is huge. I’d love another signing in midfield of the same quality but I think that may come next season.

As for Barca I think the issue is similar to Pogba with us in that they have played him in the wrong position. Literally the exact opposite of how we put Pogba as a deep midfielder they played FDJ as a more advanced player. I don’t think he’s been terrible at all for them either but Ten Hag will use him properly.

Christ  transfer window’s been open for 15 days and we might have secured a world class €80m transfer for a player that wasn’t desperate to leave, in a position that’s been neglected for years - we may as well fold the club.

We all love United
Think it should be done. Sport even got the exact fee on there so they must have gotten some information from Barca’s side

That you’re complaining about negotiation being stupid right as news emerges of an agreed fee, like an idiot
and where is this big news? not on sky or bbc or the sun or the mirror. but yes, let's all believe the express. and even they say "it's close" not that it's done. i'll believe it when it happens

I feel McT is ETH’s first choice to pair FDJ if setting up 4-2-3-1. But he might do something completely surprising me. Looking forward to the new season!

Interesting. What is it about McT that makes you feel that?

"might" doesn't get the job done. We once almost signed bloody Diego Maradona. And in those 15 days, how many people have City signed; you know the club that finished on a different planet to us last season
