Wasn't invested in this so much, but it's a sensational transfer if it comes true. Right before his peak, with a manager who used him best.

he's still in love with Barca (according to parts of Spanish press).
Weird that Spanish press would report that.

What next, Russian press reporting that Putin is doing a good job.

Seems clear from his Nethetlands interview that he’s more in love with playing and being used correctly in his preferred position than he is any football club.

When the transfer is close, this is what we need. Some beautiful videos, not relentless moaning.

What a cool video! Has a lot of Pogba hold-up quality there, but I'm sure he'll have a better passing conversion after he's done though.

I wonder how many goals we are going to concede due to him receiving the ball like that. It seems more like luck than skill in most of those cases. Not sure that will work in the PL. Just ask Pogba.

One thing I like about that video is how’s he’s able to turn forward after being pressured, instead of backing into him and passing it away.

Interesting point. I feel though as if FDJ does it out of intelligence and an actual means to escape his opponent whereas Pogba was always doing it for no reason, only to prove he was strong - a big dcik contest if you will.

People who are whelmed by this transfer do not understand just how good he can be. He will become an instant Old Trafford favorite next season, trust me.

The two of them would make a perfect combination in a midfield three. De Jong ability to control things from midfield while also being dynamic is enticing.

It wasn't for no reason, more often than not, it was due to a lack of pass option. In fact the same things have happened to Bruno, lately Bruno has been the target of unfair criticism due to his inability to keep it simple in our own half or propensity to try to milk a foul but what kind of options was he given? That's why you need someone like De Jong on top of having players likes Bruno and or Pogba, they are meant to help each others make moving the ball easier by creating exit options.

He does it in La Liga too, a league with arguably less space and time on the ball than the PL.

I do love a midfielder who can advance the play either through passing or running with the ball, just creates so many problems for the opposition. Outside of Pogba who was the last to offer that at Utd? Old Giggs, Anderson for like 20 mins a game?

Pogba was better for Juventus than de Jong has been for Barcelona or Ajax.
He had peak Vidal and Pirlo with him. That helps your performances a lot. The problem with Pogba for us was that he was expected to be the main man in midfield. He has the talent but the moments of lack of concentration keep him from ever being that midfield general we needed.

With Juventus, if he made a mistake he had Pirlo and Vidal to cover for him. Both were better than him at the time.

Talksport sources solid I take it?
"Talksport sources" are tier 2 on the reddevils reddit, and are seen to be on par with Romano, Burt, Hirst, Berger

No one actually knows why they are, but "Talksport sources" and just in a different league to "Talksport". "Talksport" are ban-worthy as a whole.

Be nice to see a midfielder drop deep to receive ball like that way De Jong does in the clips.

McFred would shit their pants if they even tried to do. Not in there locker or have ability to do anything like that.

De Jong the start of the puzzle for Ten Hag. Build around him.

I love his abilities to handle the pass from the keeper in almost any situation. McT would have lost probably 50% or more of them.

The problem was that he was expected to be the only quality part of a midfield, he was the main man for Juventus after 2015 and went to a CL final without Pirlo and Vidal. Pogba being good wasn't based on Vidal and Pirlo but being part of a sound and balanced midfield.

The same will be true for De Jong, he can't be left alone having to do things that he isn't good at and doing them essentially on his own.

I mean, this appears closer than ever and this is your post?

Let me save you the suspense, we are.probably signing de Jong, Eriksen quickly after and then that will probably be it if Ajax are asking too much for Antony right now.
What’s your point? I have no doubt we will sign this guy...my point was that posters are being slagged off for being negative but there is sweet FA to be positive about in how the club has handled its buisiness once again.

and FDJ and Eriksen are not going to make up for having no full backs of any quality, shit/injured centre halves, a striker that can run and any real options off the bench. RR had it right, we needed a reset and a significant number of new, hungry, well scouted signings. Instead we get a shiny new expensive toy and some freebies (Sancho and Ronny sound familiar?). Same every year. I suppose, considering the shit show of last season, it would have been nice to see a fresh approach from the club.

anyway De Jong will be a start.

He didn't, he spent one season without them at Juve and they got knocked out by Bayern that season.

Regardless, Pirlo wasn't covering for anyone when he was at Juve.

Something depressingly familiar with all this, everybody else are signing their hearts desires left and right ....everyone but us! Not even sure de Jong wants to come he's still in love with Barca (according to parts of Spanish press).
The OT road model might have had ( another) new respray and bodywork touchup, but under the hood the same tired old engine keeps chugging away.
Perhaps even ETH is having second thoughts?
Couldn't blame him really if he were ...
Let's see now who could really shift some shirts ???
Jesus Christ, where you posting this from ?

You make a fair point. And I think it’s true that it wasn’t always for no reason but I do recall plenty of times where he could have passed the bsll but instead got locked into a 1v1 where he wanted to prove how strong he was. It only ever bothered me when we weren’t winning to be fair. I was a Pogba fan also, never understood the amount of hate - just an observation regarding hold up specifically.

I'm so happy about this finally being done! First big signing of the summer, hopefully we'll make two other midfield signings. De Jong is going to be huge for our midfield. Optimism is slowly starting to creep in again. :)
Can see us getting Eriksen, in terms of a DM with Bissouma/Phillips gone and Rice too expensive our options look sparse.

Yeah, the final was 2015 not 2016. But Pogba was playing at a high level in 15-16 without Pirlo and Vidal. He was playing with Khedira, Marchisio and/or Bentancur.

I swear to god this fanbase is worse than RAWK in the 2010s, in fact dippers should come on here and create their own CAF thread on RAWK.
