I still think Timber is wanted to play RB. Antony holding the width on the right and Timber stepping into CM as the inverted FB would allow us to play an Eriksen type with De Jong - he could do some serious damage between the lines in that space Antony’s width creates. Having Timber also fits with the Raum links - an attacking LB of that ilk who acts like a wingback keeping the width on the left hand side allowing Sancho (or even Bruno from the left) the freedom to go roaming - with the stability of Timber forming a 3 behind them as FDJ fills that left space to pick the ball up and progress. Add the ball playing left footed CB and it would look like a rather good balanced squad.

I see the how the puzzle can come together but that will cost 200+ and leave us with a rather large squad for a Europa league season.

Good post. Worthy idea to consider for our new season.

We need a new RB if we sign Anthony. Does Timber have the ability to contribute in the final third as a attacking / overlapping fullback? If not then we are in for him at CB.

@Raees on his Pythagoras in Boots video on Anthony explained that Anthony like to cut in and relies on a over lapping fullback to create width so he can cut in from the right wing.

On that basis i dont think timber is the RB we are looking for.

That’s one way to do it. Like I’ve said in my post - Timber can push into CM giving Eriksen the freedom to rotate into those spaces. Walker does similar for City.

Think is going to be one of Timber or Martinez. I hope we can get both Antony and Timber, both superb players.

Yeah certain it's only one of them & Antony, however even getting that looks a big ask with the sales of Mazraoui and Gravenberch already.

Dumfries would be a much better tactical fit with an Antony.

He made his decision, I respect that. Ajax is a great club for young players, but I do wonder if he doesn't make a mistake.
Our new manager is Ten Hag, he coached him before, knows Timber's strengths and weaknesses. Yet still wants to sign him. So Ten Hag believes Timber is ready for the step up.

Only three of them??????
Yes, only Timber, Martinez and Antony from Ajax because De Jong, De Ligt and Brobbey are contacted to other clubs and Eriksen is a free agent. I think 7 "old boys" plus Malacia should help change the culture of the club in Ten Hag's image.

Clear out all the deadwood, and hopefully some of the talented youth team can be moulded to Ten Hag style of play. This, combined with a couple of sensible additions, like Nkunku next summer, has the makings of a very good team.

I would imagine that even if we sign Martinez we will likely be back in for him next year anyway.

Maguire will be 30 years old, and we have no idea if he'll even recover his form. Likewise with Varane, who will also be 30 and we have no idea if he can be relied upon to stay fit, his time at United seems to suggest otherwise.

Lindelof probably won't ever be anything other than a squad player if/when we sign Martinez.

That contract extension probably adds 15m on top. The winter transfer window it is.
