He looks a lot better on the right in my opinion.
Yeah, he looked a lot less nervous positionally. Considering we want to play out of the back, I'm hoping we buy an LCB and have Maguire and Varane competing for RCB with both getting lots of rest.

Had a good performance…this thread is deathly silent. Never seen a player so badly underrated on here.

Another good game from Maguire, yet still people are desperately trying to prove otherwise.
Just bizarre behaviour.

Maguire was shite last season (who wasn’t?), but the overreaction was ridiculous and he was a scapegoat. John Stones plays most weeks for City and is worse.

If we improve under Ten Hag then expect Maguire to improve, too.

Agreed. This whole meme culture thing is really annoying too especially for a player that just doesn’t really deserve it as he’s a good lad and sound professional. Someone like Lukaku I get, he’s a massive dosser and is cocky as hell. Maguire is a pretty unassuming guy who has just been targeted by the media due to his price tag and a good portion of our own fanbase have fed into that and contributed to the toxic environment.

Who cares how he plays for England. We watched him play for Manchester United last season and he was shit. No overreaction like people here seem to claim, he was absolutely shit last season. I start praising him if he plays well for Manchester United next season and wont look like the comedy show he was last season.

OPinions change like the weather on here based from one performance to the next. I thought he was decent yeserday but not superb. Was amixture of his good England form but there were a few moments of misplaced passes, dawdling on the ball and poor positioning like his club form last season.

His England games are totally irrelevant anyway, it is how he plays for us. Always thought he is a decent defender that we paid an elite defender price for when there were better options.

Thought with the right partner he would be a decent player for us and Varane would be that player, but it hasnt happened yet. That isnt all Maguires fault though, Varane was injured a lot of the time and his first season was ery patchy when he played too.

His performances last season were genereally atrocious, he is a better player than that, is he a top top defender though, never has been. We still massively need a new centre back signing, both to cover his form and maybe top level as well as the possilble injury problems of Varane.

Lindelof as a third choice centre back that will get a lot of games isnt goodd enough. We need somebody to challenge Varane and Maguire as a starting centre back (which shouldnt be that difficult due the aforementioned, pushing Lindelof down to 4th choice where Bailly was)

I’m pleasantly shocked that poor long pass (his only notable ‘mistake’ in the match) to Grealish hasn’t been posted in here. He played well yesterday and hopefully he’ll put last year behind him, along with the rest of the team, and crack on now. He’s hated by a load of united ‘fans’ and I find it utterly bizarre. The most scapegoated player we've had in recent years.*
*Somebody is bound to bring up £80m soon.

That's basically because the guy is shit. Fred's had more good performances than Maguire but he still gets shat on.

He’s a lump of shite lads, I don’t like anything about him. Shocking transfer, lacks character, and irresponsible of the club to make/keep him captain of Man Utd after the events in Greece.

How the heck are people still using his England performance as some sort of gotcha??
Everyone knows he works and is quite good in that system. But any mildly positive / offensive system and he sucks.

And it's especially funny the same people shitting on De Gea while claiming Maguire is good.
They are both good at one thing and terrible at the things needed under Ten Hag.
Currently midfield and attack are of of higher priority but we need to upgrade both in the future.

I'm sticking to it, brother. Erik ten Hag will be a fan of his.

That's fair but I do question the purpose of the initial post

It wasn't from this game so you posted it for a certain reason , but also didn't see the game either

I'm sure there's a reason but couldn't figure out the purpose behind it

His mentality stinks.
Whenever a through ball goes pass him or he gets dribbled past, he would just slowly jog back hoping to get bailed out by his teammates. He never sprints for his life to save the day.

I respect the conviction, but wholeheartedly disagree with the conclusion.

Hope you're right though
Yeah, I'm in the minority on this one! I could very well be wrong but I'm hopeful. Before this horror season, I always rated Maguire highly so, again hoping, it was just a blip rather than a sign of things to come.

Our captain Maguire would love FDJ in midfield, he would finally see someone trustworthy to pass the ball.

If true, United should have just thrown him in for free to sweeten the deal.
How does Maguire sweeten the deal? I would say it will sour the deal.

Barcelona cant pay his wages since his wages are way too high for what he is offers on the field. Maguire doesnt suit Barcelona at all and is even slower and less agile than old man Pique. He would also look like a complete trainwreck (just like he did for most part of last season) in Spain... he is never going to be able to deal with those short, fast and agile players there.

Im 100% convinced it is a made up though. No way Barcelona asked for Harry Maguire

What concern would that be to us IF Barca wanted him? The poster said "If true"

It is interesting when a report comes out that backs up a narrative that fans make up in their mind, they believe it but when its a narrative they dont like, Its made up.

I was just thinking it's a body but yeah you're right. Even as a freebie, Maguire would be of no benefit. He's not even attractive in a BOGOF deal.

Why the club isn't putting him up for sale after last season is embarrassing, it goes to show we are too sentimental, I remember Bayern had the same problem with Hummels but they Ditch him after two seasons did same too with Götze, that's how a proper clubs works.

One of the problems at Our club is we take to much time in realising a player isn't just good enough, we romance things get too attached so much that even when it's clear as day light that he's shit as they come, we somehow seem to be able to find an excuses like "Maguire needs a partner" which ironically has a thread.

Barca asking for him is obvious nonsense. They need money to balance their books not slabheads.

Blatantly us briefing this to try and generate a sense of Maguire being "wanted". Probably even with Barca's blessing.
