MEN also report that United have an agreement with Feyenoord for Malacia.

However, I have another reason for posting this Tweet:

You're sort of correct. Feyenoord had a verbal agreement with Lyon on the deal. However, since it wasn't formal, United could still jump in with a better formal offer and get ahead in the race.
Thanks for the info, seems like a smart thing to do!

Ten Hag's willing to give Dalot a chance, however, and whilst Dumfries seems like a reasonable player to bring in, I've yet to see a reliable report linking us to him.
That is true guess we'll have to see once our primary areas have been covered. Still 2 months to go.

I like that, we waited till the price for him was set at normal level by Lyon at 13 mln euro then make our move.

Other way around they would want 25-30 mln for us.

Big Brain :)
It's actually amazing; I went back and looked at the articles from May regarding Malacia. The links said Utd and Lyon were interested and the price was around £16m. So really very little has changed. Almost as if the deal has been on the cards but we were waiting to see if FDJ was going to take up another £10-12m of our budget.

I'm not sure where that leaves other business but perhaps Malacia in particular was dependent on the FDJ fee while we've set aside money for CB/RW separately. Or maybe the fee for Andreas has largely covered this?

Only because it's been all over the internet for an hour :D

Bless them, they do try
They really do, it's the BREAKING for me hours after it's been reported by everyone else

Still, I was more interested in personal terms line as not many have reported on those. Seemed relevant after the Barca are forcing him out reports.

Any idea why we'd offer more money than Lyon and a sell on clause? Surely we could have offered the same terms?
I’d assume it’s because Lyon pretty much had an agreement in place/about to close the deal and we had to make it worthwhile to Feyenoord to come back to negotiation table

Could be several reasons; 1. to bring Feynoord back to the negotiating table, 2. increase the bid so that Lyon also has to increase to get their offer formally accepted, and 3. to get Feynoord to approve that the downpayment gets split over three years (as reported by some sources) instead of all up-front.

We finally get the first bit of reliable reporting from the Barcelona side on the recent updates.

Thanks to both Berbaclass and Adnan in the Frenkie De Jong thread:

Barcelona already recognises that it is close to selling Frenkie de Jong to Man Utd.

Barcelona wanted €100m between fixed and variable. It will not arrive.

About 80 - €85m, necessity rules over sport.

I can understand why we wouldn't want to sell McTominay right now. He's probably the only player we have that can kinda play a holding midfield role. He can't play it well but his defensive positioning is decent which we can't really say for any of our other midfielders (not counting FDJ). Maybe Garner's positioning is good too? I don't really know, from what I saw of him last season (only a couple matches and some highlights) he looks like he plays much more advanced than when he first joined Forest.
Actually think that's his worst trait. He leaves massive gaps that opponents walk into. He's a liability defensively and all his positive traits are going forward instead.

Yeah I agree, this is true with FdJ as well - he's no slouch defensively but he loses runners behind him and doesn't position himself to mop up danger like a pure DM would.

This is why I'm not certain that a double pivot of McT / Fred + De Jong will work well straight away. Ten Hag made it happen with Schone + FdJ so I'm hoping he can work his magic on one of McFred as well.

Friday 1st, we’re going to line 5 new signings up along the half way line at OT. Scarves aloft. Don Hag and Murtough bookending with cheeky smiles.

Definitely not. His worst trait is his inability to show for the ball. Fred is also terrible at this and it means our cbs and De Gea never have any option to pass to in the centre of the pitch. McTominay is probably best attacking empty space (generally most average players are good at this as it is logically easier to run into open space than it is to progress the ball in tighter positions or when you're being pressed). McTominay doesn't press very effectively but his actual defensive positioning is fine. That's why numerous different managers have tried him as the deepest of our midfielders. If his defensive positioning was actually his worst trait he obviously wouldn't be playing that role for the team.

United have entered the race for Gnabry!
Is this Aurelien Macedo guy supposed to be reliable? No one else has reported on this link. Plus, Foot Mercato tend to get wild with their speculation as does any football transfers website/media outlet.
