He'll probably be a starter for ARG in Quatar. He can even play LB, though I doubt he will if he joins us. I think he would be a great assessment if we buy him
Bit more difficult to get excited about this transfer, I don't think he suits PL football and will just be another Lindelof. Timber is a better player.
Ajax wants a bidding war. I am not sure if it is wise for Arsenal to spend 40M on a player who may not be a starter. Not really concern if Edu can't land him. There are so many players out there who can do a job as LB.
If Lindelof had Martinez's aggression he would have been a much much better defender.
He's 5`9. I suppose its the same compromise that Barcelona and, on occasion, Liverpool made when playing Macherano there. Obviously you get quality in possession that youre unlikely to find in a big centre half. You also get better acceleration in smaller players, although less flat speed, so he'll be a lot quicker on the turn than the likes of Maguire which could be important if we intend to play a high line. Obviously the key is whether you can achieve the objective of dominating possession with a high line. Obviously if you cant, and you end up pinned deep in your own half for long periods, then it could become an issue.

If we wouldn't sign Malacia, it would be nice to sign him, because he can play CB/LB/DM. But now LB is overloaded, and I wouldn't want to trust him at CB all the time, he's too short.

Google is wrong when it comes to height. It gives a decimal of 10, despite they're being 12 inches in a foot. That's why it's coming up wrong. Just google "cm to feet" and go into the 1st website that shows up. That will give you the accurate height in feet.I also googled the conversion.

I won't say I have no concerns about Martinez' height, but I will say that imo he's a better actual defender than Timber right now. Timber goes on big marauding runs that look flashy but can leave him out of position on the counter. Martinez tends to be a bit smarter about how far forward he can go without leaving a gap where he can't recover in an instance where his team loses possession. Both are excellent passers. Despite being slightly smaller (though realistically there's nothing in their height difference really, don't even think it's a full inch) I also think Martinez is much better in the air than Timber. If we had to choose one of the 2, I personally would have gone for Martinez. I don't buy that we'd be signing him as a dm though. I think he's definitely being signed to play cb. Why would a manager who's played Martinez as a cb in every single game for the last 2 years decide to spend £40m to buy him, only to then play him in dm where Alvarez was much more effective? Surely if he really wanted a dm who can also play cb he'd just go for Alvarez? Pretty obvious that Martinez is Timber's alternative imo.
So how do you see us lining up with Martinez and Malacia on board and AWB gone? Do you see Martinez starting over Varane or Maguire? I just think a CB/RB hybrid is a bigger need hence why I'd prefer Timber. He can compete with Dalot and cover CB. whereas with Martinez, we'll still need to sign a right back. Not sure our budget can stretch that far giving that we are still looking to sign a forward like Antony.

Give us this guy for midfield and then Nathan Collins for a top class potential central defender. I'm amazed no one seems to be looking at Collins, the lad is going to be class.

Worth noting that Javier Mascherano was the same height and a centre back for Barca and he did pretty alright. Used to be funny hearing football experts talk about how his height was a disadvantage and he could be got at and it never happened (Similar to Blind when he was here)
