Ah gave me joy and made me think of one of my favourite Father Ted quotes:

Father Dougal:
I wouldn't know Ted, you big b*****ks!
Father Ted:
[astounded] I'm sorry!?
Father Dougal:
I said I wouldn't know Ted, you big b*****ks!
Father Ted:
Have you been reading those Roddy Doyle books again, Dougal!?
Father Dougal:
I have, yeah Ted, you big gobsh**e!

Further info from the Dutch on Malacia's transfer situation:

Sources: Algemeen Dagblad (pictured in the Tweet) and De Telegraaf
Ten Hag lets Manchester United plump up 17 million for Malacia
  • Feyenoord need to sell before the end of June to improve their finances.
  • Malacia's dream is to play in the Premier League.
  • Lyon ended their interest once United jumped in.

It’s not news imo. He consistently said he wanted to stay and went off on holiday. Everything since has been fabled stories of changing his mind based on nothing but Utd negotiating a fee.
Imo he comes back from holiday and kills the transfer. Hopefully not but nothing has changed my mind.
Why would you say you want to leave while currently at a club? what if the deal does not work out? What if he ends up there?

There isn't much in this article, but Luckhurst states that Brandon Williams is looking to leave the club on loan/permanently.

For me nothing ever beats: "So I hear you're a racist now Father?" from the old man over the garden wall. Man I loved Father Ted.

This lad could make it, best defender in the under age teams

disagree, i watch him alot, very error prone and clumsy.
Needs to improve massively to make the grade. Menghi is better, and i would argue rhys bennett and di'shon bernard are too.

But apparently we were negotiating with Barca when he was steadfast saying no. I know the stories about Ten Hag and Xavi convincing him were leaked but that wasn’t at the start of the process. That puts a hole in the Utd wouldn’t talk to Barca if the player didn’t say yes angle imo since we clearly were (well at the beginning anyway)
I’m not saying I’ll be unhappy if he signed or any such nonsense, I just always had the feeling this wouldn’t happen
Yeah, personally I just think we must have had an indication he was interested before moving in at the very least.
But who knows, noone knows really other than the parties involved.

  • Manchester United are very interested in Lisandro Martinez, but have not yet made an official offer.
  • Arsenal have upgraded their proposal to €40M + 5 in bonuses, but Ajax are yet to respond.
  • The Argentine is on holiday: he is happy at the Netherlands but he is enticed to go to Premier League giants.
César Luis Merlo is great for news on South American players.

Arsenal should just give up. If we genuinely want Martinez and are prepared to pay he's 100% choosing us.

Seems like waiting for the asking price to be established by a rival club might well be our strategy. I'll be honest, I like the thought of us having strategies.

"Arsenal ha mejorado su propuesta a €40M + 5 en bonos, pero Ajax aún no ha respondido." Ajax helping us out by choosing not to respond to Arsenal yet ;)

That's a sure fire way of eliminating United Tax.

I hope this is the type of transfer strategy we adopt moving forward ie wait until 2 clubs agree a price for a player we might want then move in and hijack the deal last minute

this is clearly not a viable strategy long term and hoping this becomes a permanent moving forward will have us missing out on a lot of players. Not every guy will be willing to drop their plans or have their head turned just because United entered the fray, after being courted by someone else for months.

Did it successfully for years mate. Did it with Keane after Blackburn. Ronaldo after Arsenal. Rooney after Newcastle. It was only when Woodward came along and started swinging his wallet around like an appendage replacement that we started getting taken royally to the cleaners.
