As far as coaching feats go, what would you deem to be the most impressive ETH could do with our current players?

Whatever take you have on our squad, it is not unfair to state somewhere in nearly all of them as individuals is a player. Most are flawed in one way or another, but it could be argued that seasons of neglect and dire coaching caused this, that too alongside not tapping into what makes the individual tick. Klopp, in particular is lauded for extracting every sinew of what he wants/needs out of players under his tutelage, and as far as I'm aware, ten Hag has this quality in spades himself.

So, in you opinion, what would be the most impressive set of feats he could perform here outside of getting the collective to perform cohesively? On an individual one-to-one level, which would be the greatest feats?

Let me give an easy run of examples of flaws that might be seen as miraculous to see fixed:

De Gea - (1) Playing out from the back; (2) coming off his line.

Shaw - (1) Decisiveness in the final 3rd; (2) tracking runners (3)motivation/consistency

Maguire - (1) Decision making; (2) reading of play

Värane - Does he have specific flaws to work on?

Wan Bissaka - (1) Offensive capacity; (2) defensive reading of play

Dalot - (1) .…

McTominay - (1) Reading of central midfield play; (2) showing for the ball

Fred - (1) General composure

Martial - (1) Off the ball movement; (2) effort, general

Rashford - (1) Reading of play/ decision making; (2) off the ball effort and movement; (3) defensive contribution

Sancho - (1) Imposing himself in games and general involvement; (2) taking on more shots

Elanga - (1) Not sure he has a specific flaw per se, rather he has a lot to do overall to be part of any serious rotation

Bruno - (1) Composed, intelligent football and considered use of the ball

Ronaldo - (1) Pressing and concerted defensive work off the ball

The flaws you perceive may well be different to the above. I am interested in what Erik ten Hag could you impress you with on an individual level with the players we’ve already got, and what point would you consider getting a tune out of specific individuals a miraculous turnaround from your expectations?

Movement off the ball. It's something we've been shit at for at least a decade.

Attractive football with good movement off the ball and high pressure for me. Don’t know if these guys can do it.

given that ole got 2nd with a worse squad, with 74 something, id be impressed with much better than that eg. 85 and 2nd place. obviously 90 odd and the title is out of reach for now

We’ll wait and see but a lot of our players have either been 1) good enough at one point of their United careers 2) good enough to be bought 3) good enough for their countries.

De Jong for McTominay, far better coaching and better morale from getting rid of a few troublemakers and don’t be that surprised when some players drastically improve.

The most impressive thing he could do would be win the quadruple.

The most feasibly impressive thing he could do this season would be a title challenge with us looking like a well coached and setup football playing team.

Pressing, Movement and implementing a solid 4-3-3 formation and every player getting a 7/10 minimum every game. I'm sick of looking at our players standing like statues, no movement and general laziness. We cannot rely on a moment of brilliance from Bruno or other players, we need to start playing like a team. ETH needs to implement a style of play, not just relying on individual brilliance as gets you no-where in the long run.

I hope ETH can make this happen with this group of players.

If he continues to use DDG, yes - playing from the back is essential.
Not sure he could teach him to come off the line - it's probably part of his personality.

Shaw - just manage his weight and form, that's a challenge by itself.

Maguire - not sure there is anything to work with there, i have a feeling he'll be dumped soon.

Fred - if he could teach him to be concentrated for 70 minutes in the game that would be great.

I have a feeling Frenkie will bring out the calmness and composure in Bruno.
Also have a feeling that he will bring more options from Sancho.

More movement is crucial! If everyone moves at least 20% more that itself would be a huge acomplishment.

Pass and Move. We have been terrible at it since SAF left.

I just want us to control games and pass the ball properly. We finally have a manager who is not obsessed with playing the ball vertically as quickly as possible, and wants to have control, let’s see how it goes.

Genuine question what quality has Varane shown in a United shirt? Outside of the piss poor injury record nearly every time he's played he's been shite. To me he was the biggest disappointment from last year.

That’s bollocks, to be honest. He was good in most games he played, particularly towards the beginning of the season. Check his player threads for evidence. His issue was injury, which is an issue.

There’s only so much Ten Hag can do, ultimately. I have no doubt that some players will improve, but Fred and McTominay will still be Fred and McTominay. He isn’t going to work miracles.

What EtH needs to achieve, is the ability to have a team where players can simply slot into positions and even if the player isn’t as good as the first option for that spot, the impact on the team is negligible. We used to have that under SAF. Unfortunately Liverpool now have it under Klopp.

No more zombie football. Make two good signings in a row (we haven’t done this in a very long time)

If ten Hag starts using crossbows, he is bound to get them to pass and move.

Passing the ball to our teammates and not giving the ball away cheaply would be great for starters. My heart cant stand another season of misplaced 5 yard passes

His match day thread is filled with mostly disappointment from what I can see? Or at best he was better than Maguire which ain't saying much.

Be great if he could put 11 players on the pitch who all look actually @rsed to play for United and perhaps even run around a bit and put the odd tackle in.

I know this is a personal preference but I'd prefer not witnessing again a complete phuucking surrender against the scousers in August would be welcome too.

Too much, too soon?

Up until the debacle at Brighton, consensus was that he was good when fit, but not fit enough. Our win record when he did play was noticeably better.

If we manage to look technically sound and can play out from pressure consistently I'll be thrilled. It's the #1 thing we struggled with consistently and it's why we got dominated by any half decent pressing side (let alone the big boys that embarrassed us). I'm not sure a lot of our current players can do so as I think the technical level from a large number of them simply isn't good enough so we'll see (Rashford, Maguire, McT, Bruno, AWB all come to mind off the top of my head)

Which comes as a surprise to exactly nobody. Sign a crock, get a crock.

I'm amazed people are/were positive about signing Eriksen.

Got the numbers for that? Don't doubt they'll be a bit better because if they where worse then i'll be seriously worried but just read his player thread out of curiosity to see if i'm remembering his time here wrong and it's exactly like I remember it. Even in games where he was a "Rolls Royce" the comments normally had he had a big error in there too.

Runners from midfield scoring goals. The dream.

Martial playing like a simple centre forward finishing off moves and holding up and linking play through the middle of the pitch.

Sancho looking like Germany Sancho. That would require some serious coaching of all the players so they're running and moving right, and would be worth it.

Off the ball movement

Implement a pressing style

Midfield who can play the ball to a teammate even under pressure

Midfield who are not constantly run past every game

Being able to defend set pieces

Stop the individual defensive errors

Definitely this..

The man in possession needs options, not one but two. Also runners need to make runs.

Second I’d like decision making to improve, so our players use initiative in the final third eg don’t just cross, but look up and quickly decide what the best option is. Or in Rashford’s case don’t just dribble into a dead end but think when is the best time to release the ball.

Finally goals & assists spread around more. To challenge we need more players scoring.

Create an happy team and good team spirit. Get everyone playing for each other and not them selves. We definitely need a lot better movement of and on the ball which I’m sure ten Hag will coach and drill this into the players!

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"
With the ball (1) movement to give person on the ball options (2) getting the defence able to pass a ball out without looking like they've never seen a football before

Without (1) organised press (2) positioning (i e. Shaw not ending up in a CH position and 30 yards of space out wide)

With and without.. 100% effort. Bare minimum and hardly any of them did it last season

Repeat tap ins at the back post.

Also if we go from being one of the teams that run the least in the prem to a team near the top of the charts with THAT team. I’d buy him a happy meal. Just kidding he can get a Big Mac. And a side.

Have De Gea finding the full backs quickly with passes. Have him come off his line to clear up through balls.

Have Dalot and Shaw use their technical ability to keep the ball moving or beat a man when it's on. Have them tracking runners and protecting the back post from crosses.

Have Varane be Varane. Dominating in the air, comfortable on the ball and clearing up through balls. Have a ball playing centre half beside him to pick out long range through balls when they're on. Lindelof can be that centre half.

Have a midfield trio that is a nightmare to get the ball off, can carry and pass the ball into dangerous areas and be responsible enough to protect the back four. Donny, Frenkie and Bruno should be able to do all of these things.

Get Sancho and Rashford putting in more of an effort without the ball.
Effort should be a minimum from everyone. After that have them be the wide players that they've shown they can be. If he gets them playing to 90% of their ability then they'll terrify defenses.

Tell Ronaldo to play on the last defender and bang in the the chances that will flow.

Have the team as fit as Liverpool. Dole out as many inhalers as required. :smirk:
If he really pulls this off and has the players working their arses off for him, then there is enough talent in the first team to challenge. We shouldn't be outplayed by the likes of Brighton ever again. I expect a minimum of 70 points next season.
