The human body is great at developing routines and has an internal clock, which is why if you wake up at a certain time every morning, you'll eventually wake up before your alarm, and wake up not as tired as before.
It's also why you need to switch up your workouts (dumbbell Flys instead of Benchpress etc...) every month because your body gets used to it, and you'll see less gains.

Your body gets used to things. If you run every morning, and post a steady 45min for your distance, then on saturday you run in the evening, that evening run will be more difficult, or will be slightly slower. Since your body is used to turning it on in the morning for it's run.

So generally in most competitive sports you want the highest intensity of training to be close to the same time at which you would be competing.
Thus your body is in a routine and knows now (x:xxpm) is when it is time to perform at it's peak.
Not sure I fully agree with this in footballing terms.
The difference in KO times vary so much now that it wouldn't make so much difference for an elite footballing side to train so their bodies are in a routine bases on time.

If you ran every morning then you would automatically be more tired in the evening, studies have indeed shown this, which is why a footballing side to pick one time to be at their peak doesn't really work.
United may have a 3pm KO followed by a evening European game followed by a 5pm Ko on the Sunday, then an evening KO on the following Friday.

You can't train for a certain time when the schedule is like that, hence you have to be more bespoke, both In terms of load, time and individuals.

Routines are great as it conditions the body, but also there needs to be change amongst the routine otherwise the body adapts and almost gets used to the load. This leads to overloading as people try to claw back the gains they have lost.

@simonhch is not wrong. This should be a nice thread to come to. Players back in training under our new manager. Great!

Instead, there's a lot of crap jokes in here that have all been done a million times and weren't funny the first time. It's not adding any quality to the thread or the forum. Maybe it would all be better if people didn't feel the need to post their every thought on every topic

It's getting beyond pathetic.

Now people are telling people to not be excited about hag starting his Job, getting told nothing special is happening here, just usual drills standard stuff. Can't even get excited about one of the brightest coaches about actually on the pitch coaching the players

I really like McClaren. He has a great smile and I think the contrast with him and ETH's serious approach would work well on me if I was a player. Kinda good cop bad cop sorta way. It's something we don't think about, but I think psychological things like that have more of an influence on player mentality, happiness and motivation than we think. In general, the players seem happier than they have in a long time (or at least they don't look completely miserable like any other time I've seen them in the last year).

I 90% agree, but I liked the 'cut chips in half' one. Seemed more funny than cruel.

It looks like Ten Hag is doing a variation of long and short passing drill, quite simple but very effective. I think he’s working on the basics first then building up to more advanced stuff..

It's probably more of an interesting way to get them running while also doing some light ball work.

Posters moaning about negative posters is also getting pathetic, just let people vent on a forum for cripes sake - not everyone has to, or should think and act the same way.

People are naturally pessimistic/negative/positive or whatever, being told by a random person not to be who you are isn't going to change them, so stop trying.

On a side note...

Luke "Thicker Than A Snickers" Shaw

This has often been a big problem for us also. We can't run and pass at the same time.

If you watch back a lot of the old matches from the past few years we get the ball then stand still and look for a pass. Unless they're actually counter attacking they barely move with the ball at any speed.

These sort of drills will get the players comfortable moving with the ball naturally and keeping the tempo up.

Well the videos posted prior to today have just been of usual drills and standard stuff.

How anyone can’t get excited about the one from this afternoon which features the players practicing passing, something I imagine was last done under LvG, is completely inexplicable.

But thats the exciting bit. We haven't had a proper footballing coach since LVG.

Er, yes. My wording was a bid convoluted, but I was saying I couldn’t understand how people didn’t find the passing practice one exciting.

Strange that people are complaining about training video's, surely you're not expecting the club to show full tactical training sessions for all to see?

Its more the gravitas of the manager and seeing how he takes the training more than anything else.

Thanks for posting this. Looks great to see the players doing so much high intensity ball work.
I like that De Gea is involved in the passing drills. Not sure if this was always the case.

You know they'll be the ones quickest to jump on the Manager if results don't go right immediately. Don't have any time for them, with the exception of rimmy because it's rimmy. He's a harmless Panda.

All top teams play the ball out from the back and for that you need a goalkeeper comfortable on the ball. I'm hoping Ten Hag can somehow coach that into De Gea because we're going to need more than just an out-and-out shot stopper to challenge for top honors.

It's not really a case of coaching it into him. De Gea must've been going by the manager's instructions, or may he wasn't given instructions?

I agree, though, all top teams build from the back, more times than not. Sometimes they play it long as to negate and counter the press.

I think ETH will instruct De Gea to play it short.

That's fair enough, just don't expect the complainers to take what you say on board either.

I've actually got a similar build to Shaw, wide back and a skinny jeans defying derriere, so I consider Shaw to be my spirit footballer.

Yeah it’s hard to compare to previous eras but you get the feeling that we have a proper meticulous coaching team at the helm and players are actually being coached in technical, fitness and tactical improvements. I have to say that I find all this very exciting. Much more so than all the transfer bollocks.

I mean I'd love to see us adopt a playing style that gets the goalkeeper involved in the buildup play. Problem is is De Gea up to that task to be more involved in that phase of the game. It would make him a much better goalkeeper than he already is.
Lets hope ETH can 'unlock' a bit more of De Gea :)

I think De Gea can rediscover his passing skills. I remember that when he first joined that his passing was pretty good actually.

Two questions.

Who is our reserve keeper for next season, did Henderson go to Forest?

And how come ETH is in that tracksuit, isnt it hot in it?

You lot are really, really funny. And clever too. Don’t listen to anyone telling you you sound like a pack of toxic bitches, with tired, juvenile jokes. You do you. This stuff is really hilarious. Not old, unoriginal, or tiresome in any way. I’ve been saying for ages that what this forum needs is more negativity, so thank god you guys are delivering. Really brilliant stuff. Luke Shaw, fat! Ha! Genius. I bet you’re all ripped specimens too, which makes it even funnier. Shaw probably needs that SUV to haul all his feed home, am I right?

Thanks guys. Complete breath of fresh air to browse the new training thread and see a deluge of “fat”, “lazy”, and “shit” jokes about our players. The relentless positivity around here has really been starting to grate.

I’m totally kidding. Your posts are all really shit. Your posts are also boring cnuts.
Proper 7th grade humour that one.
I mean the posts you quoted of course.

Anthony Elanga nearly breaks world record in pre-season training at Man Utd

Anthony Elanga is putting in the graft ahead of the new season with the Manchester United star just inches off setting a world record as he prepares for life under Erik ten Hag

Anthony Elanga has fallen narrowly short of landing a world record during pre-season training.

The Manchester United youngster enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last term, scoring three times as he continued to receive opportunities under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick. Now he wants to cement his first-team spot under new boss Erik ten Hag.

He's working hard to do so, putting in the extras. That has involved some impressive box jumps with the Swede setting a new personal best. A social media post shows him jumping 63 inches - just over five foot. That is only four inches off the world record set by American personal trainer Chris Spell, who confessed it took months of training to achieve such a jump.

They've taken a bit of a liberty with the headline, but it's impressive nonetheless.

De Gea went from rolling it out to the defence under LvG to hoofing it long, and invariably losing possession, the moment Jose came in. Quite clearly following instructions.

If he can just go back to the former I’d be happy. Of course, it requires the defence to make themselves available, which hasn’t always been the case.

Good man. I think he scored a really good headed goal last season if i remember rightly
Yep his debut goal was a header too.

Almost put us ahead against Athletico when he out-jumped Oblak too.
