Can someone shed light on why Barca want Raphina so bad?

I don’t watch them at all, but hasn’t Dembele been very good off late on the RW? Given their financial situation, shouldn’t other signings be priority - Lewandowski etc?

Does signing Raphina mean that Dembele will be available for free in the market?
Their transfer policy hasn’t made sense in a while, to be fair. I’d honestly rather re-sign Dembouz than waste 60m on an inferior player.

More likely it's on the player not impressing enough.

I actually think he's a good player - explosive, which I do like. But he is quite erratic and loose in his technique which you wouldn't tell from the insane hype.

Reminds me of ADM in style but with control and precision. He'll be a good addition for any of the teams after him but based on the sample of the games I've watched him in, he won't be another Mane or anything.
if it’s him or Dembele Chelsea will sign I’m very happy with Raphinha going there

You'd think that he's quite sloppy in his game to be a Barca player but then again Xavi seems quite confused in what he's trying to do.
He just may or may not be throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks.
Raphinha should be quite straightforward, he's gonna slot in where dembele played (who wasn't exactly flawless technically but I'd the job done) .

What befuddles me is their pursuit of Lewandowski, why get auba on massive wages then if you're just gonna replace less than a season later.
Sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Not impressing yet he's got Barcelona, Arsenal and Chelsea fighting over him.

HMMM OK i'll believe you
Have you seen the players those clubs have signed of late? You seem very defensive over this player. Maybe he's great and I'm wrong but based what I've seen, he hasn't struck me as anything special.

He's definitely good, and one of those players that's fun to watch when he's not playing for your team. He's extremely sloppy and erratic though, and I don't see that changing.

Unfortunately we live in an age now where everything will be "but, but Mane... Southampton blah". The fact of the matter is that Mane is an outliner. The vast majority of these types of transfers end in mediocrity and not Mane type fairytales.

Why don't we hijack this deal from right under Chelsea and Barca's noses?

Wants Barca, wouldn't come to us, Leeds would rather sell to anyone else and his possession of the ball is poor.

or we could just buy ziyech from them for a cut price deal who is a massive upgrade of what we have currently and will do a job for a few seasons. But this is united, we should have signed him before he went to chelsea and we still havent improved the area. Great club

I don't get this. How exactly is Deco responsible for getting PL clubs to bid X amount for his player? If there is somebody responsible for that it is Raphinha as he's a desirable player due to performance. I think you're giving him far too much credit as a salesman. He's a football agent, his job is to get his players a good deal, he doesn't direct the transfer strategy of clubs or selling disposition of Leeds United.
Clubs don't randomly bid for a player without knowing he'd be interested to join. And that little question go through his agent who clearly invited bids in. He doesn't have to tell them how much to bid. Everyone knew he had a 30/35M clause if they got relegated. They didn't so it was always going to be around 45+ being a PL club.
Apparently i'm over complicating things for a player that only wants to go to one club on Earth.

You just said it yourself, the question may have gone through his agent who presumably gave them encouragement to bid. Unless there is slavery going on around this multi million pound footballer then that's because he and his agent think the situation is good.

You are massively overthinking it for no reason. There's an easy explanation. A few clubs are interested in him but nothing is resolved, even if his initial preference is Barca. Keeping them all on the end of the line ensures he'll get a move somewhere this summer for the most money possible.

I hope he goes to Barca. He’d be fantastic if he goes to Chelsea or Arsenal.

Feck knows who our Plan B is. We need a Plan B left back / defender and a Plan B wide player already.

Dembele wants 12M a season, raphinha is 6M. Yes, raphinha has a transfer fee but dembele was often injured as well and his agent really screwed him being greedy but it is what it is

So they matched our bid and are offering him higher wages. Cool. We wanted Dembele anyway :D

Honestly have no clue what we do if we miss out on both Raphinha and Dembele. I genuinely think that we would’ve panic bought Richarlison had he not gone to Spurs. I’m glad we didn’t, but we’re kind of fecked if Dembele stays.

Sterling will be great but he isn’t enough to elevate our attack to a new level alone.

Neymar is the answer to that question. Gnabry is available too it seems, but I’m still holding out hope that Barca aren’t going to be able to afford to go all out for Raphinha and keep Dembele.

Richarlison to Spurs
Raphinha probably to Barca
Sterling probably to Chelsea
I think Antony is too expensive and also Ajax wouldn't let him go that easily after we picked up Martinez

Who's left? I like Diaby from Leverkussen but I'd like a winger who could also play as a striker. Thats why my main target would be Gnabry. He's able to play at all 3 positions in the front, that is perfect. Dembele is still an option but imo we shouldn't buy him. All the time injured. Maybe Neymar on loan for 1 season. Marketing wise it would be perfect but I've my doubts about his mentality.

Lemme know what you guys think.

Gnabry is my great hope for us. I know its faint because of our current status but he has always said we'd be favourites if he came back to the league, knowing us though we will think his wage is too expensive or want more emerging talents.

Would hurt seeing him in another English shirt, you think we would be used to it by now.

It's not so black and white. Dembele asked for a high wage which he's not deserved while at the moment Barcelona needs to restructure their wage for the whole squad. Barcelona does want to renew Dembele, but not at the terms Dembele demands. And for all we know, with his injury history, Dembele may continue to have injuries and not contribute. Raphinha is one of the best left footed attacker available. TBF, Barcelona was linked with Di Maria not long ago.

He wants a Barca move if reports are true. Imo once the FDJ transfer happens ,then he gets his move to Barca. I dont think UTD want him or need him? If UTD go for a wide player hope it's Antony.

17 goals in 60 odd PL appearances isn't really anything amazing. Jack Harrison has 16 in the same space of time, and he's extremely average.

I can see why the likes of Arsenal, or this iteration of Barca might want him, but Chelsea being interested is fairly baffling. I'm just glad we're not being dragged into this nonsense.
Indeed. I will hand this to Murtough and Co. - not going in for Raphinha and Richarlison is a good move.
