Nonchalantly scoring the winner...
Can't say I'm suprised. He's not Europa League player
We can’t really expect the GOAT to while away his last playing years in the Europa League and trying to beat Spurs to top 4
Exactly this.

Utd are better suited to a younger CF, and Ronaldo also deserves to be in the CL.

Best thing for both parties is to let him move on and also for Utd to stop dicking about and start strengthening.

They’ve just finished their worse ever PL season and signed no one while City, Liverpool, Spuds and Arse are quickly strengthening.

I think if United can manage to get his wages off the wage bill then we don't really need to look for a striker right now and can replace him with a RWF/versatile forward. The positional rotation between our fullbacks, wide forwards and midfielders would be much better without him imo, and we'd function better as a unit.

We can then take our time and find a central striker for the long-term.

People saying they are happy, where do you think the goals will come from next season?

Without Ronaldo we're in a lot of trouble and there's no way we can afford to replace him unless we cancel other deals like FDJ.
Rashford/martial/sancho/elanga/bruno/V.DB would be the main contributers i would imagine.

Ronaldo leaving would make the budget considerably bigger aswell through a transfer fee and wages off the books.

To be honest I would be shocked if we let him move to a rival. So it is only abroad, and no one will move for him Id imagine. Bar maybe, Bayern, if its a free contract for a year as a stop gap after they lose Lewa. That's the only way I see it working.

Folks saying this is positive...

It's only positive if we have a realistic incoming replacement.

Who is it?

If you look around Europe there's a ridiculous shortage of suitable forwards for us to take.
To be fair, most people who are saying this is positive are prefacing it by saying we need to adequately replace him. That's what I'm saying, anyway. Him leaving on its own, is a positive thing moving forward.

Would save £26m per year if he leaves, that's insane.

This "legend" talk was already shallow and far-fetched but that should seal it. Was always a big mistake trying to bring him back but Sir Alex didn't want to see him go to City. He didn't make Juve or us better and has been a hindrance for the clubs he plays as his stats are more important than anything else.

I'm more than happy if it's true and definitely think it'd be a blessing in disguise. More than the big names, we need profiles that actually suit Ten Hag's system rather than trying too hard to fit players in that system. Find a ST that's willing to press, work hard for the team and we'll be good. Also his huge wage off the bill is a big bonus for us too.

I hope FDJ has put ink to paper already because I doubt this helps our prospects if we're really still negotiating...

Players who don't buy in should leave, and when they do its positive.
I agree but if you think realistically... we are left with a sulking and massively under performing and never proven his worth fully yet Martial and an injury prone, unfocused Rashford for CF options.

I'm asking folks to provide me with names of realistic replacements, cause we certainly need one.

We're 7 weeks trying to get 1 CM done who isn't wanted by his club whilst not confirming a single other transfer and only loaned out 1 player which was completed today.

Madrid didn't want the 5 years ago version of Ronaldo you must be on something special if you think they'll go anywhere near this version.
Exactly, I am only suggesting who has the capacity to do it. I guess Bayern are a better fit on paper. Theyl lose Lewa.

Good news. Hope he gets a great move. He won't tactically fit.

Now go get him for small money

No wonder we tried to get Nunez then. Seems like he probably told us that early.

Letting Ronaldo go does free us up in a tactical sense, if any of those positionally ambiguous forwards like Felix/Nkunku/Dybala are on our radar. I’d probably take one of those as a false 9 than line up with one of these average strikers that the market is filled with.
I would love Felix. My guess is €120mm

One of the greatest ever, at the tail end of his career. Can’t blame him for wanting to go somewhere else where there’s a higher chance of adding another trophy or two to his legacy.

Hopefully if he does go we get an adequate replacement in.

Was great to see him back in his colours and shirt. But unfortunately we do not deserve him the way the club is at the moment. And he does not have the time to waste on a building season you buy him to win. End of
Just feck off with comments like these. It makes you sound like you are a fan of the player rather than the club (maybe you actually are).

feck him if he wants out. He fecked off in his prime. I was never happy he returned.
Same here, the ‘legend’ claim makes me want to puke as he was never a legend here and never will be, it’s actually an insult to the true legends who have graced this majestic club. Spent his prime years playing for a club he always dreamed of playing for, not us, and quite frankly anyone who mentions his name with the L word should be instantly banned (or forced to listen to a Westlife/Boyzone medley on a endless loop till the end of time)
Last post I’m allowed for today won’t be able to reply to any comments calling me all the names under the sun!

I agree and another poster also posted it asking in greater detail..

If he is being replaced he needs to be replaced with a suitable option that can fit ETH playing style of high press and tempo.

When you think of it that way those options become quite limited.

This was inevitable when the club failed to qualify for the Champions League - he wants to win silverware and we haven't really been relevant for nearly 10 years. In a way, I'm surprised that it has taken this long for the stories to emerge.

The problem we will have is finding a buyer who is willing to pay the money it would cost to get him - there are only a few clubs in the world who would be willing to part with the wages necessary. If he does indeed go, you'd think that Chelsea, PSG, Juve and Bayern would be the most likely destinations.
Shouldn't have signed for United then, should he.

I hope this does not impact our FDJ deal.

Of course, I’d like to see us go and get Felix. I suspect we’ll go for David or Danjuma though. Gakpo and Ekitike also interest me, but they are players I’d have liked us to sign with Ronaldo staying another year.

Remember when he came back last year and some people thought it was because he loved the club?

If we got CL he'd still be here. If Real Madrid had stopped qualifying for CL I'm sure he'd have looked to leave there as well. There's a limit to "love for the club" when you're after a certain level of football and the club can't provide it. Especially if, as he will feel, he's done his part and the other personnel haven't.

Go for a wildcard young gun I guess and hope for the best. Ronaldo was/is a good player but we can replace him with a better fit for the team not on 500k a week.

Or maybe Ronaldo wants out BECAUSE of the lack of transfer activity (including de Jong)…?
He’s already mentioned that a few weeks ago, really lazy from United to expect a 37 year old to carry the team all season (again)..

This story is massive and unfortunately just another negative spin on a club that is already circling the drain in many peoples eyes. To be fair though these rumblings were going on a while back also when he apparently was not happy with the clubs transfer activity, and last season when we were still hoping to get top 4.

I could even see it swaying a players decision to join us or not. He is still a massive draw and him following Pogba, another global superstar, out of the door doesn’t exactly scream this is a club going places.

But yeah I will no doubt be shot down for saying such “rubbish” and spun how this is actually a positive…pretty much the Caf norm these days.

Say what you will about him but he predicted Juventus awful season. They won no titles last season because their squad was below average for a top team with all their free transfers and ageing players.

He saw success throughout his all career. He knows what it takes.

He's saying the same thing about United now. Should worry us fans more than anything. He doesn't rate his teammates
