Did Ronaldo know the de Jong deal was dead?
Personally think Mendes has been putting the feelers out for a while to try and get him out, hence the stuff that broke last weekend. This isn’t something that he’s all of a sudden decided today and I honestly don’t think it would particularly change Ronaldo’s view if de Jong comes or not (which I hope he does).

Can be no dount it's the right thing that he leaves, he's just not built for the sort of season we have coming up.

I hope Bayern offer us half what they get for Lewandowski, then we can all move on, Ronaldo will get another league title, and the a few more goals in the CL that he craves.

Much as it could hurt us, I honestly don't want him here next season.

That’s nonsense. If it wasn’t, then he wouldn’t have signed for OGS’s United, and he wouldn’t be struggling to get a club the year after that.
He was set to go to City and made the mistake of listening to Ferguson, Rio and co.

He also just put in a transfer request so it’s too early to say he’s “struggling to find a club” .

Would you want to spend another year having to link up with Rashford and Martial?

Yeah, he's been thinking about this since December I reckon.

Not a surprise. He can talk as much as he wants about how he loves United but ultimately Ronaldo loves himself more than anything or anyone else. He has no problem cutting bridges as long as it benefits him and of course he's at the end of his career and won't be logical for him to play in a team preparing for a huge rebuild and won't win much in recent future.

Just wish fans understand that he's not ready to sacrifice anything for the club and stop fanboying over him. He's right to care about himself and his career more than United, for sure, but let's just not pretend otherwise.
This is a weird take. I have doubt Cantona loved United, but he'd still put himself and his career more than United. And don't most of us still "fanboying" over him? It's the same like other United legend, like Beckham and Keane, or even Schmeichel that moved to City.

People seem incapable of understanding someone can have 2 different feelings. Everything has to be so black and white.

Yep. They’ve put it into overdrive because there’s probably far less interest than he and Mendes expected. They’ll continue this until the last day of the window if he stays. It’s exactly what he did at Juventus.

Bruno just 2 days ago:

The thing with these sort of quotes is people tend to think the player has just come out with it to the media.

In reality, a journalist will have said "What do you make of the Ronaldo situation, will he be at OT next season"

And it's truly impossible to say "nah, he's off innit", without causing a massive storm.
Basic media training.

So if Ronaldo goes what goalscorer do we have in the team? I think the answer to that will be none. Will we buy one? Probably not at this rate.

We'll just play a tonne of attacking mids who run around a bit.

This could also be Ronaldo pressuring United to make signings. The club seem to have a lack of direction and no signings have been made yet.

We should let him go.

We won't be able to press from the front with him in the team and he's 37.

It frees up so many wages.

I don't mind him staying, but if he wants to leave, let him.

How is it hard to understand. We scored more goals and looked a far better team BEFORE we signed Ronaldo. We literally finished second + ahead of Liverpool without him. That's the logic.
Correlation =\= Causation.

Our dip coincided with us selling James. So by your "logic" that's the reason everything turned to shit. James is world class, I guess.

He was by far our major problem
24 goals and 3 assists yet he was our major problem. Okay.

He gave us our only high points of the season with his last minute goals, carried us in the CL. He is immensely important to the team, it would be a disaster for the club if he goes, we'll look even weaker than we did before.

Maybe he was going to tell the higher ups in May but then he saw that we were attempting to basically sign anyone in Amsterdam who owns a pair of football boots so he held his tongue until he saw that Haller had signed a contract with another team before letting them know. Heroic in a way- he clearly does love the club!
Difficult to disagree with that.

Of course it is.

It’s Cristiano self serving as he has always done. He and Mendes put out subtle feelers earlier with a negative response from the club. They’re pushing into the next gear to engineer the move. This is quite literally following a play by play book of what he did to get out of Juventus.

With players the Cafe just spent a season telling everyone who'd listen shouldn't be playing matches for Manchester United and a handful who won't kick a ball for us again.
True but I don't think he makes other players better so could be part of the issue. They may return to some form without him leading the line. A Juve veteran said that when Ronaldo was there the other players dropped their leve as they mostly left it to him . Might change when he bounces.

Basically he played his best stuff at Real, came back as a geriatric and then jumped ship. Hardly legendary stuff.

I imagine he will stay because no other club is going to be stupid enough to pay more than half a million a week to a 37 year old whose goals have no positive impact on the team's success. If there was any way of moving him on then the club should do it and try to find a young forward with potential, we're not going to be much good in the short-term whether he stays or not and I don't think it helps the club this summer and Ten Hag next season to have the Ronaldo wanting out and his status and ego generally hanging over everything.

Timing here by Ronaldo is just awful. I think we'd be better off with a striker who works a lot harder even if this replacement scores a few less goals. But at this point in the window, how are we going to replace him?

Shocked it's taken him so long to pipe up tbh, was obvious he wasn't gonna be sticking around for Europa and getting pumped by Liverpool and City 4 and 5.

Wages aren't a problem, they'll make it back in shirt sales

True. I love the country where I live in right now, the city, the workplace and workmates. But I'd not hesitate to move to China if they offer me a million per month there, as i'm more a money oriented person (money is not everything, but very important aspect to me). It's different scenario but the essence is similar.
