Strange ol comments from Laporta - Adamant he’s staying and then drops a strange line about him needing to take a pay cut.

Plenty of reports today with British press scrambling for the story Id imagine.

He is not coming and why should we hope someone who clearly doesn't want to play for us, comes for the money.

It is a bad (and embarrassing) transfer attempt. Feels like a potential Di Maria situation.

It is quite pathetic that our transfer targets are either players who will obviously not want to come, or players Ten Hag knows. Zero input from around 20 scouts working all year around.

Sounding more and more like that time we spent the entire Summer chasing Fabregas.

If it isn't sorted this coming week then we need to move onto plan B.

I think John Murtough is partially to blaim for most of this. He recruited and advised the club to get Wreck it Ralph, who had no premier league experience and was quick to blame everyone but himself, I was never a fan and would have preferred Carrick to be given the job until the end of the season he got a draw at Stamford bridge, and beat Arsenal. He knew the club, the Premier League and was his own man so deserved a chance and was unfortunately guilty by associating with ole. Ralph, the so called master of genggen press managed in 24 pl games won 10, drew 7 and lost 7 scoring 33 goals and conceding 33 goals, it’s no wonder ETH wanted him out the club, the worst record by any manager of united in the PL. So by insisting on Ralph, John Murtough now can’t get any of the targets he wants, you reap what you sow, had the club recruited a competent interim manager that had an expected 63% win rate 17% draw rate and 20% loss rate we would have won 16, drawn 3, lost 5 and recorded 51 points not the pathetic 37 and guess what we wouldn’t be having all these conversations about our pathetic ability to recruit players.

I wonder how long it is before ETH realises he’s working with inept execs and his next demand is for John Murtough to go too!

Joan Laporta has said Frenkie de Jong isn't for sale and he will do everything in his power to keep him, but he must reduce his salary as its an issue.

No reputable sources have mentioned it as anything that has changed, some say United have been dealt a blow but then just reference the comments that's it.

People on here have lost their shit and said its dead in the water, we've been played etc...
Laporta is the biggest mug of all.
We’ll do everything to get him to stay (not sure what that actually involves other than a few phone calls) but FdJ must take a massive pay cut.
Seems to me it’s one guy making all the sacrifices…….
or perhaps he could go down the piquet route of wage deferral and then have the club try and make him retire so they won’t have to pony up……

Just think back to 2003 and Laporta's comments and tricks he pulled with Beckham.

The guy is full of shit so I wouldn't take anything he says as gospel. Does anything to look the good guy.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
Can someone give a summary of the last 24 hours here? Way too many posts to try to go through on a Sunday morning
Laporte said De Jong wasn’t for sale because experts all agree he’s a world class midfielder. Before saying he wasn’t for sale he said lots of teams want him not just United like he was creating an auction. After saying he definitely wasn’t for sale he said he’d do everything to keep him but there’s a big issue around his wages.

So in summary he’s definitely not for sale but lots of clubs want him and unless he takes a wage cut he is for sale.

It’s not true colours. It’s constantly being let down by our shambles of a board.
What have they done wrong this time? Every reputable journalist has reported we've agreed a fee in principle and we're finalising the deal. What more do you expect from them?

Literally nothing has actually happened and yet look at the shitting of mars bars. So many of you are so used to things being bad you just go down the misery hole at every single opportunity. It's exhausting to watch.

If people don't know what Laporta and Barca are like in general by now, well, you never will clearly.

Well said. People take from his statement what they want to, but it's a jumbled mess of stuff.

Seems to me that this is Laporta just setting it up to try and save face. Offered him the chance to stay by taking a paycut, so we tried all we could but he had to go.

It is a worry the longer this goes on something happens like maybe he says yeah I’ll take a paycut or they find other ways around the wage structure issues or someone else comes in like say a Chelsea offering Champions league, London and just as much money.

Hopefully it gets done by early next week, but I think DeJong is still on holiday is he not? If it’s not done by end of next week move on and go for Neves.

Most likely he will stay and takes a huge wage cut. The other option is Laporta wants United to pay up, which is doubtful

the Barca statement looks like an attempt to tell the fans its De Jongs fault if he goes. We really really love him and dont want to sell him but unless he agrees to drastically cut his salary he will have to go. But in that case its all his fault for wanting more money. seems like a familiar enough play

If that was the case, i imagine it would have been done by now and we'd not be in negotiations for him to leave.
Barca have apparently also reached a €60M agreement with leeds for Raphinha, as well as renewing Dembeles contract. No idea where this money has come from as their "lever" they activated allowed them to break even for the last year apparently.

If he wanted to leave shouldnt we have agreed a deal a long time ago?

Doesn't work like Football Manager unfortunately. Barca hold all the strings and they can demand what they want, which is what they're doing by all accounts.
Plus a deal has been agreed, Barca probably just want more in easy to achieve addons and are playing hardball now

Why on Earth would he agree to that?

You think Keane or Rooney would’ve? FDJ has been there for just 2 years man, and it’s been a total clusterfeck.
Apparently it’s his dream club. Guess it would come down to how much he likes the lifestyle there and can he live off of say 150k a week.

Does he also feel like they can compete going forward which is also a big question when it comes to moving to United.

Would ten Hag not know if Frenkie is coming or staying? Surely we’d have moved on by now if it’s dead in the water.

But then he must be thinking if my wages have been lowered now, what does the future hold? What if the issues get worse? He's on borrowed time as the day will come when he HAS to go, and if he has a bad couple of seasons his value will likely plummet (unlikely but possible)

Yes United are a club in a bit of turmoil at the minute with all thats gone on, but we're stable and won't be making him take pay cuts, or worry about his future etc

Yep i'm pretty sure he'd have a good idea of whether this transfer is dead.
As people have said, look how quickly we moved on from Timber when it was clear he didn't want to come. We'd do the same with Frenkie, we'd brief that we're moving on

I said early in the thread that this was Fabregas#2.

Will spend all summer chasing a player who’s said publicly that he doesn’t want to leave only to panic in the last weeks and spunk 70m on a mediocre midfielder like Ruben Neves or Tielemans.

Shambles.

Frenkie would go into his 4th season with barca should he stay. That's also the reason barca want either a wage cut or to sell him, since Bartomeu promised him a huge wage increase going into his 4th year.

If we've agreed a fee with Barcelona why would their president come out and say that they fully intend him to stay?

Indeed. No need for panic, yet.

To save face? To push the narritive that Barca aren't to blame and that economic factors played a huge part? To say they tried everything they could to keep him but HE didn't want to stay? To stay on the fans good side to enable him to have a good chance at reelection?

And? You utter muppets seem to think your club is so special that players who’ve been there barely 5 minutes are so desperate to stay that they’ll take massive pay cuts, it’s as fecking stupid as believing Messi was worth his wages due to revenue.

I’m not so daft to think Keane, Rooney, Ferdinand nor Evra would have taken massive paycuts to stay at United, they’ve have fecked right off.

And this isn’t even the 2017 Barça let alone the 2015 one, it’s a dog shit utter clusterfeck broke version.

You lot really live in a World of your own with the more than a club bollox, and you’ve learned nothing the past 5 years, you’re not special, not different, and your superstars, Messi, Neymar etc care more about themselves than the club, just as they do at all other clubs.
