Some of the posts in the last few pages have me baffled. Is this the first time people are seeing a big money transfer? Even if De Jong opts to take a massive pay cut (an inexplicable decision right before getting married), he knows that he is expendable for Barcelona. Can he afford to spend another season playing out of position, especially in a world cup year? A move to United will guarantee him a starting spot in his preferred position, under a manager who helped put him on the map, in the most competitive top league in the world. In terms of his career, this move is a no-brainer.

When is De Jong coming back from vacation?
If this drags on I'm sure we'll have a couple of nervous breakdowns on here
I am sure it has sent a few to the deep end -- first Frenkie and now Ronaldo. They need to legalise selling MJ here on the Caf. Many people will need it the next few days.

Jesus.

You dont know anything about what he wants. His friends who actually talk to him do. And he knows himself. If he chooses to stay at Barcelona its his choice. He's not a manchester united fan on a manchester united forum.

While I largely agree with you, the bolded made me laugh. Wives can be a drain on finances but I'm sure they could struggle by on £250K per week as opposed to £350K per week if they really budgeted smartly and made coffee in the canteen instead of going to Starbucks.

This is a question of tens of millions of pounds/euros being owed to him. If he wasn't bothered about the money he would have taken a wage cut and not a deferral.

Bro we all know she’s already spent that £350k. Planning a wedding too. He best keep them wages.

Surely no coincidence that Laporta's quotes came out just after Ronaldo said he wants to leave. Gives him extra leverage in trying to squeeze more out of us as we'll be even more desperate to get this over the line.

Where did I say I knew what he wanted? I stated facts about both clubs and how they view De Jong, nothing more.

I don't know mate, from my experience rich people never choose less money when they can get more, no matter how rich they already are.

No you didnt, you made some shit up from your bias as a united fan pretending he would do what a united supporter would do

Go ahead. Tell me which part I made up. Has De Jong not been played out of position at Barcelona? Would he not be first choice under ETH at United?

Yeah the actual quote is different
But but but... Laporta said he's absolutely not for sale!
Posturing and bluffing. Laporta the BSer strikes again eh
Doomers in a fecking shambles

Did you lads even listen to what Ogden said?

"What is holding up the deal is Frenkie is reluctant to leave Barcelona but knows he may have to".

The ridiculous, childish, mental gymnastics by lot is beyond cringe tbh.

Yet another source saying Frenkie does not wish to leave.

There's being positive and optimistic then there's just having blind faith.

He's coming.

We should have somekind of an automated post in this thread which hourly gives the posters some security and peace of mind about this transfer actually happening.

Because soon I feel that lots of posters are needing some therapeutic sessions and prescription drugs for handling their well-being.

We've been negotiating add ons for a week now, its doesn't make any sense something else is holding this up
Or maybe Barca is intentionally dragging it out -- knowing that FdJ is our prime target -- so they will get better terms or terms less acceptable to United?

But it proves the mass meltdown over Laportas comments wasn't warranted at all.
He was BSing as per usual. Barca don't want de Jong and i'm sure privately they've told him that, or they'll wait until he's back off holiday to present an offer to him that they KNOW he won't take.
So no, it's not blind faith, it's just recognising BS when we see it

Always knew Bayram Tutumlu would have a big part to play in all of this.

The meltdown here was something else :lol:

People pissing their bed for no reason whatsoever.

If the move was on the verge of collapsing or had already fallen through, do you think all the media outlets and journos would have kept quiet about it?

Maybe but all the top sources reports a fee is already agreed, just the structuring and terms of the add ons remain, from there you'll expect things to move very quickly. I've never known a transfer like this one.

Actually doesn't prove anything.

The only lie he said was other clubs were in for him, that aside he was spot on. He said Frenkie doesn't want to leave (he doesn't), he said the club wants to him (they do).

How old are you? Whatever you reply with I'd have to assume you've the mental age of a 12 year old.

Everyone calm down. If the deal was dead, Simon Stone would come out and slay it dead. The club would brief instantly to save face. It’s still on.

If any of you think any footballer would take a wage cut in the start of their prime, you're fooling yourself.
It's a short career and rightly, he'd want to make as much as possible. Especially now that he's starting a family.

I think one of the reason holding this up is the deferred salary that he was owed by Barcelona. Would Barca obligate to pay him the difference of salary that he deferred, if he's gone this summer? Maybe they want United to paid this

Ogden hasn't been relevant since the day Moyesy was sacked.
That's not the point.

The lads I quoted are using him as a source to confirm their blind faith that the deal is on and Frenkie can't wait to rock up to OT.

If he hasn't been relevant then perhaps they shouldn't be taking him at his word.

How disappointed you'll be when he signed for us?

The deal is still clearly on if you believe Romero and Fab, but yeah, you disregard them and use Ogden as your overwhelming truth. No problem.

When you are dealing with a financially stressed club like Barca, they will have their own minefields to manoeuvre too, it all adds another level of complexity. Then you have our new team -- either they want to prove they are more competent than the previous or they are learning as they go. I am more inclined that they are doing the former.

Dealing with Feyenoord was relatively smooth and easy for Malacia. But we won't remember those.

I'm not excited whatever way it goes.

If he stays I'd probably be happier tbh, I don't particularly care to invest in a player who doesn't want to be here.

I mean Ronaldo is getting rinsed for not wanting to be here and we've folks doing mental gymnastics to make themselves feel good over this deal and Frenkie wanting to stay put in Barca.

It's a blatant contradiction.
