MartialFC train is back, choo choo!

But seriously, good half and needs to show same attitude more consistently. The finish was beautiful, especially being against Allison who is class 1v1

I'm more interested in the finish, that's the issue that he had and a year ago that ball was going straight to Allison.

Let's see if he maintains the motivation, the talent is certainly there but the attitude has been lacking for a long time.

I don't think we'll ship him off this season due to the shortage in the squad. So another chance for Tony to prove his worth.

Big fan of the talent/player, not quite Martial FC level but, think even his staunchest supporters would be very pessimistic about him doing it every game. He is one of many players if he showed mental toughness/desire every game even when things aren't going good, would be one of the top forwards in football today.

Always hold out some hope - especially considering how bare we are right now for strikers.
There is no Martial FC here really. It is more about the fact that some fans here completely write him off and call the others belonging to Martial FC. I think he has no reason not able to turn his career back on track. He needs to stay fit first.

In the first half today there was a turnover in Liverpool's end. It gave us a 2 vs 1 with Sancho and Martial. Well, it would have been 2 vs 1 had Martial decided to sprint. Instead he jogged and ended up being marked so Sancho gave a cut back pass to Rashford whose shot got blocked. If Martial is going to be our #9 then he has to see the runs and put in the effort. It's not all about ball to feet. He needs to see the space but he just doesn't. I've heard people say that we created nothing for him. Sorry, but he has to make the runs in order for that creativity to happen. He wants the ball to feet too much and doesn't have the footballing brain to see when and where to make runs before the ball is crossed...

He always had the talent and ability. It was the application that went missing. I think he had a lot of personal issues at that time too. Hopefully it's behind him now and he can play to his best. If those three play to their level we know that they can play we have a very strong attack.

I'd call it a decent attack, with plenty of room for improvement and lacking depth.

But if Martial doesn't find form, we are seriously short. So a lot rides on him and Rashford right now. We need at least one forward to decrease the reliance on them.

He had to stay on side on that break.

But yeah in general he needs to be more active.

Keep a clean shit tomorrow, United is my final bus
I didn't enjoy his performance as much as some of you. I still felt the lethargy from him (and Rashford) when pressing. Even though he scored from a turnover, but the Liverpool defender gave him far too long to make his way over. In my opinion we have 1/3 of a very good attack, we need at least one more this summer or we will struggle this season.

I think ETH will be on him for all of those incidents. If Tony can take on his managers instructions he might just become a "new" player.

Think @Adnan has been predicting that for a while now.

At least with Tony he has the physical ability to implement ETH's style, while Ronnie can't and he wouldn't if he could.

Still, hoping we shift Ronnie and get in another capable forward.

Can I just point out that we all witnessed Martial press someone? Remember the day.

Wasn't involved as much as he'd have probably liked but he worked hard off the ball and took his finish in a typical Martial way.

I don’t wanna slate him after he’s scored but let’s see if he’s arsed when the pressure hits again. He’s always Pereira’d it in pre-season anyway.

Not that I want to be negative, I didn’t see the game but I heard he put himself about a bit. Nice to hear.

Lets be honest - If he didn't scored that goal today you even didn't know he played in this game, he was pretty "quiet".

Problem with Martial is not his talent. Problem is he looses his drive/passion too often. If he can sustain desire to run, win ball, battle then he will be very valuable. So we have to wait and see.

So are we gonna act like he didn’t win the ball like 5 times from him pressing today ?

Yeah. With Pogba and Jlingz gone (two that encouraged his negative mood swings), hopefully we will see the best of him on a regular.

In 6 months time we will know.

How did they do that?

People will say it was just a pre-season.....but what you can make a true assesment on is someones attitude and work rate. He looked like was really up for it and out to prove a point.

I still have faith and hope under ETH he can find his pre-cavani form again. It feels like Martial is more suited to ETH patterns of play than Ronaldo would.

That was very noticeable and pleasing to see! Defo looks like he's hungry to impress ETH. He got harshly punished for one which looked clean against Gomez. He would have been through on goal.

Encouraging signs. Though I did think that he, like Shaw, looked heavier than normal. Both players could have a big say in our season if they can get into shape and ten Hag can find a way to keep them fit and motivated. Of course to do that he will have to do what no manager post-Fergie has managed to do.

Ten Hag has turned Martial into a pressing monster
He has always pressed. the problem with him is that he lost his finishing touch and hasn't been able to convert properly for around two years. The rest of his game hasn't changed.

How could you possibly know that?

 The confidence people speak with on here about things they couldn’t possibly know is amazing.

Think martial will thrive under ten Hag, I’ve said it from the start and got a lot of criticism of some people. It’s amazing what an actual coach can do to some players.
