Not sure you know, the fact they're getting 500m+ from this lever, they might look at it and think, pay de Jong what he's owed, get him off the books and there's one less thing to worry about. They can then look into getting Silva if that's their desire
That would be the fair thing to do and great for all parties. Hopefully they act like a proper club and not this shady version they've been showing.

Well @Keefy18 has dedicated 254 posts in trying to say “It ain’t happening” in a variety of different flavours while ostracising anyone who believes it does. That’s some effort. Certainly deserves an honorary tagline.
Oh, I vaguely remember him saying something about Arsenal being a better proposition compared to United in Lisandro thread.

When Frenkie signs his tagline should be "In the mud"

Thanks for the link. Its very difficult to follow the exact position they have to be in with regard to the wages deficit, but it does add some more context surrounding Barca's situation.

It looks like after Lewandowski, that Azpilicueta will be next through the door - What I cant get my head around is how can Barca keep piling new players up to be registered knowing that they are already in a bad place with La Liga's salary cap, and may not be able to fulfil registering new players without player sales / creative accounting of existing salaries? Surely they are 'counting' on FDJ's exit?
I do truly believe they're relying on de Jong leaving or agreeing to a huge pay cut. I know they've got their lever money but that'll sort them for this season but not next, or the following after that. They'll have to keep selling TV rights etc until there's nothing left.

The reports yesterday said this second lever allows them to register all players, but they didn't specify whether it was current ones or current and future. If only current that means Azpi wouldn't be registered if they got him, if they got Silva and Kounde they couldn't register them either. I think that's why they need de Jong gone, gives them much more flexibility with regards to FFP

Absolutely- this is probably why he’s on tour. I think the chicken game is between Frenkie and Barca though, about trying to get him wages back.
Those are my thoughts as well. Well see, only 6 more weeks of this circus to go.

The biggest take I’ve got from Barca fans on their forum is that not only is FDJ an expensive asset with a high cash burn, he’s also not suited to the style of football Xavi wants to play. FDJ excels mostly in the CDM position where he dictates the play from. It appears Xavi prefers Busquets in that role with the likes of Pedri, Gavi and now Kessie to play ahead of him. Hence why Barca are wanting to ditch FDJ as it would naturally create an imbalance in their salary structure as he’s on considerably more than all the players that they are currently bringing in who are actually first XI players.

The only way I see FDJ staying at Barca is if he plays hard ball like Bale and just happy to be alienated from the team collecting his salary. Or if he accepts more than 50% pay cut to bring him in line with the others which I believe isn’t even allowed under la liga rules. 50% is the maximum allowed which was one of the reasons Messi had to leave.

Anyway it’s going to be a case of what matters more to FDJ, lifestyle and money or playing regularly.

You're so on board with this.
I'm not bothered either way.

I find it odd how dug in some folks are though with it happening. It's anything but certain.

I believe were absolutely 2nd best compared to Barca (his preferred club). Throw in the monies owed problem as well...

Can’t say I’ve seen him doing that. He’s just arguing his point of view as are you.
I agree but I was reply to another poster who told me to leave the thread for expressing my opinion.

I probably should of worded it better and said

"It could be argued Berba is doing the same".

I can assure you everyday it's been the same. We get one tweet from Barca's mouthpieces on how doesn't want to join us and the negative nancies are quick to lap it up. Then we have 20 pages of discussion between people who believe he still wants to join and people who believe those tweets that he doesn't want to join.

We arent negative nancies at all. We are realists and pragmatists, people with integrity, someone has to keep all the glass half full nut jobs in line. Bastards.

Fair enough. That’s not cool either. For better or worse we are all here for the same reason. We’re supposed to be on the same team!

So, does it all come down to whether Frenkie is willing to pull a Bale or take the financial hit and come to United?

This one is drifting into stalemate. It's up to the Barca moneymen to move. Either they pay up and we get him or they find a way to pay up and keep him. Really either could happen. Either way they're paying up something.

857 pages now. I think this has to be the most useless 857 pages ever in a transfer forum as the deal is very slow and so convoluted.
Hopefully that changes by 1000.

There is also a third possibility that Barca decide that they can't afford a Bale situation and take a hit to reimburse the difference.

It will be a momentous occasion when we hit the big 1000.

Probably, but if it was a contractual arrangement at least he could go down the legal route if they don’t pay up on time.
Don't think Barca owe him anything as of now. They owe him a lot, only if he stays. So FDJ is threatening to stay, unless Barca can come up with some kind of settlement money for the salary he deferred over the last 2 years.

This is absolutely the weirdest transfer saga I've witnessed yet. I have always had a soft spot for FCB due to my complete dislike of RM but I'm sure even their own fans should be disappointed with how they are dealing in this saga. Those who always say we're the worst-run club in the world must have a rethink.

Inasmuch as I'd love for us to get this deal done and dusted quickly so that he can join us as early as possible before the new season, I totally understand FdJ's position and I'd love nothing more than for them to cave in to him once they realise they have signed all these nice new players but have no way to register them officially until they have settled him so that he can leave. People always blame players for failing to respect their contracts and asking to leave when approached by other clubs. Well this time it's up to the club to either respect the contract they signed and keep him while paying up his full contractual salary or settle what he thinks he is owed before he can go elsewhere.

If EtH is happy to wait then I'm happy to wait as well.

Is this likely to be tactic we see repeated by Barca? With all the deferred wages they've arranged recently will they be looking to offload other big earners when their contracts start to play catch-up? If so you can imagine they'll really dig their heels in as this may be the precedent that's pointed to in the future. You would think a lot of their players that agreed to deferments are watching closely to see how this unfolds.

Is going to be disappointing with the one position we desperately need someone to not have anyone at the start of season

Looks like we are happy to gamble on him coming late on. If he doesn’t we at least have Eriksen.

I think that’s our point of view.

If he really doesn't want to join us you'd think he would have told the club by now. It just makes no sense at all to claim he doesn't want to join
This is what I keep thinking. Surely ETH and De Jong have spoken recent enough for his wishes to be heard.
