For not liking a movie? Ok.
It's one thing not liking a film. It's another to completely dismiss it's importance, when you're probably not even the targetted demographic, and speak as if your opinion is fact.

I don't know why everyone thought the first BP was any good.
I'm not sure either. I mean, I understand the cultural relevance... but that's not enough to make it a good film. It was really bad overall, a waste of a good cast.

I was looking at a list of the "best films since 2000" the other day, there were about 50 films in there, and Black Panther was part of that list. Madness.

Yep. It was good that Marvel made a black-centric superhero film and spent a ton on it to make it look good, but it was pretty silly overall, and that’s silly beyond the already silly idea of superhero movies.

Going by the caf you need to be a part of the targeted demographic to be able to comment on how good or bad it was or some random shite like that.

How and in what world in which 80% of Marvel movies exist was Black Panther "really bad"?

It was silly in bits, had a cliched hero arc, and generally wasn't bothered with the regular superhero showdown, but really bad?

Really bad is IM2 (and most of3), Thor 2 and 4, Spiderman Far from home, Black Widow etc etc. Really terrible films with almost no saving graces. BP was novel to a large extent in the portrayal of characters, and had solid performances all through. Not great, not even very good, just about par for the course.

Interesting villain too which always helps these movies. And I find it weird people talking about him being resurrected for this movie as BP. Guy was a mass murderer!

I loved the first one.

But this is redcafe, most movies get trashed as if they were forced to watch 2 girls 1 cup.
Forced?

It's a film about 2 birds shitting in each others handbags. It's literally our favourite movie ever.

Really bad movies doesn't make a billion dollars.
Also, people needs to realize that when something isn't for them, doesn't mean it's bad. It's just mean it wasn't for you.

Thanks Reelworld. I sent you Keane's autobiography in 2006 as a secret santa present. I hope you got it.

I think it's George Best autobiography mate. And yes, I got it. Thanks!

Did redcafe ever done something like that again? Would love to participate this year

Oh crap, of course it was. Good to know you got it, I always wondered

Wouldn't mind participating this year. Would need @Richter to climb out of his hole. Or maybe @Damien could take over...

Lion king(the new one) says hello, and probably a whole host of other movies above the threshold.

It wasn't a bad movie either. Utterly pointless, yes, but it's not actually bad.

I do think Black Panther is over rated though. It's not in my top 10 marvel films, mainly because it's let down by a very poor finale. Bad CGI doppelgangers fighting is something we'd already seen a dozen times in these films.

Yes they do, Jurassic World Dominion is an absolute stinker, Transformers Dark of the Moon is utter gash, there’s loads of films in that bracket that are really bad, something making a lot of money doesn’t mean it’s not shit.

That said, I agree with Donaldo’s point, I don’t think BP is really bad, I think it’s decent when evaluated alongside the same criteria I’d use for other Marvel films. Not really my thing but I get why people enjoy them.

Read an article which spoilt the whole movie for me. Didn’t even know why I read it. Even told me post credit scenes.

Anyone read this and know if it’s just fan fiction/ fake? Pretty annoyed the depth it was spoilt.

What a weird take. Loads of films that have made over a billion dollars are terrible. Mass success isn't synonymous with quality, if anything it's quite rarely the case.

We'll see, I noticed barely the presence of it but I'm not convinced. She's still using her hand blasters in there and no helmet and the colour scheme is wrong. Would be pointless to make that toy if she was in a far bigger role. I wouldn't hate it if it happened since it's comic book accurate, I don't really care who the new BP is I just find their direction and the setup and what's revealed in the trailers odd if this is what they're going with. But it's probably going to be great either way.
Looks like it is Shuri after all.

The first is a 6/7 out of 10 movie, pretty good, but nothing special. That puts it among the better few of the Marvel movies. Unfortunately in modern media critique giving something a a 6 or 7 is interpreted as calling it absolute trash.

Watched the first movie last night for the first time. Im currently watching every marvel film in chronological order on Disney Plus having missed them all previously. Personally I think this one was slightly overrated. It was decent but never hit the highs of Iron Man and personally I think the Captain America films are better too. Guardians is better also.

I can see why this film is popular though as it’s portrayal of black culture is great. It really got me thinking about what a futuristic mega city would look like in an African country. We know what they look like in the west and we know that in Asia they have taken their own influences so it would be interesting to see what African influences would be on the architecture and design etc.
