no the difference between de jong and neves is mobility. Neves has none, de jong can at least play as a reasonably good cb. With neves and Fred you get completely overran in midfield, because if the ball gets intercepted you are completely done on the counter.

if you buy neves you have to have a defensive beast, fdj has shown he doesn’t need that.

fdj if bought to replace biscuits was a shit buy , showing no understanding of the type of player he is
When and where? I mean, he played next to Busquets during his Barca days, didn't he? Who is a defensive minded midfield player. I'll give you the mobility stuff, because I don't know where to find some stats on that. What I found was, that Neves was supposedly 7th in terms of distance covered based on sqawka (https://www.squawka.com/en/premier-league-most-distance-covered/) which would suggest, that at least it doesn't seem to be an obvious issue with him.

And to your last sentence: a) I think, Barca spent so much money on him expecting him to be a more rounded player as he was and b) if he isn't the kind of player Busquets is, who is supposed to provide legs and defensive ability in all the lineups naming him, Bruno and Eriksen? Even if you put in McT or Fred, we know they aren't providing defensive ability so what would prevent us from being done on the counter with FDJ which seemingly doesn't apply to Neves?

Debt doesn't matter for ffp I think? (Apart from interest service payments, which I don't think Chelsea had)

Basically you can only spend 3m more than you earn in a given season (+30m on top if owner injects that money into the club).

280m is way past that point even accounting for the fact that payments are spread out over multiple years.
Really should be taxed as a gift though?

I don’t think there’s a lot of difference (some perhaps) between FDJ and Neves when it comes to mobility. I think they both would be better with a “beast” (a more aggressive, defensively minded no6), especially in the prem. FDJ might manage without but I don’t think it would be ideal and why tether him? He can offer more roaming (like a shark, says ETH).

Yeah good point. Lets all remember the last midfielder we had, who was called a roamer... That went brilliantly didn't it? Wonder who it will be next "to finally unlock FDJs full potential". I guess Rice. Because it is so conveniently obvious and only the best is good enough for ManUtd.

If you think neves is mobile I don’t know what to tell you. If we buy him and play him next to Fred we will be absolutely murdered.

From a Chelsea perspective, I don't doubt that we are interested but our priority is clearly to sort out our other positions first (CB, WB, RW?). Then we'd have to sort out the future of both Jorginho and Kante before we'd even do anything. If all of this happens and one were to leave then perhaps we'd move for him. But all of that sounds like it would take a lot of time, like towards the very end of the window timeframe. If Barca are still pushing to get him out and you still haven't got him by then..

Also, the two journos that wrote The Athletic piece haven't been all that reliable for us recently. None of the more known ones have either, like Law, Kinsella etc. Unless its Orny you lot should take it with a pinch of salt.

Well you absolutely convinced me with this statement. I mean, if anybody, you certainly would know. :D

Really don't get it these days... if that is a case of "I don't like the player", just say it and the discussion is over. But throwing BS arguments around to appear knowledgable?! I suppose each to their own.

I need a positive tweet tonight, it’s been a trying day and some good news would see me through the night! Come on footy gods, deliver him unto us!
It has been a kinda meh day today, after the excitement of the Sport change of narrative last night, I was expecting big stuff today... and we got nothing. Well aside from the Athletic giving their opinion on stuff

You are the one quoting squawks stats about how mobile he is despite all the evidence of him being about as mobile as an oil tanker. I can only assume you have never watched neves play.

fdj on the other hand has played in a system where he showed he doesn’t need a defensive dm. (Btw don’t quote schone unless you know what kind of dm he is)

I think neves is a perfectly fine player. But we would have to spend 60m minimum plus buy another midfielder with him. That’s why I wouldn’t buy him it’s a ludicrous buy, that on his own will see us get melted.

honestly if you are buying neves on his own you might as well not buy anyone and go with mcFred and save our money for a striker next year.

are there other options, yes, they aren’t as good as de jong, will be hard to buy, but at least we wont get completely run over on every turnover if we get them

Bennacer would be a more suitable backup option for De Jong no? Neves would be such a lazy pick, not even the same type of player. I do wonder what we even pay our scouts for.
