I quite like the look of Ruiz from what I have seen. He’s not really what we need most.

We need a calm, positionally intelligent, creative passer. But while we’re at it we need an aggressive, disciplined, warrior type. That’s our midfield two. Ruiz doesn’t fit either profile, he looks like a cross between Fred and McT with a little Bruno thrown in. He’s a good player but he’s not what we need.
Him and Sangare could probably be had for less combined than Frenkie

I wonder how they know his stance regarding new options...

Ring ring...
-Yeah it's Frenkie
-Hi Frenkie, it's Ornie... how you doin?
-Yeah I'm good
-Nice to hear... by the way, I heard Chelsea are in the race now. How do you feel regarding that?
-Ohh they are? Yeah, my preference is to stay here in Barcelona. But if I have to choose between London/Chelsea and Manchester I would lean towards Chelsea
-Ok, thanks for the info! I'm gonna go do a tweet now. Take care mate!
-You to Ornie, always nice to chat with you

Find it hard to believe that not only did we check with the player to see if he wanted the move if we came to an agreement with Barca etc but that we also checked with the player and said if other particular clubs are also interested would you still join ETH at united. Surely ourselves and FDJ expected other clubs to show interest if he was available ?

Either way some of the **** comments are very beta about how it's over now Chelsea are interested. We've signed bigger players than Frankie without CL football.

Relax and see what happens.

We'd know pretty quick if that was happening as we'd see us making contact for other players (hopefully).
Still, ten Hag must still be pretty confident that he'll get him, and i can imagine he's contacted him to see the state of play, but who knows.
I don't believe ETH was ever 'confident'. If you remember early stories about this, FDJ was saying no to him, then was intrigued, then ETH believed he could be convinced. I think ETH just saw him as a big enough prize that he wanted to give it our best shot.

If there is anything that we are going to learn about this saga, its that we constantly have to be in Champions League for us to get players that we want

Would have been weird if we were the only club interested in a top class player like this. Should be less competition for Neves anyway

They could offer a better wage package to compensate the player maybe. But it sounds like we never even got to that stage with the player, so not sure.
They would need to make him best paid player in that case. Something around 450k per week.

Because of Ten Hag and his insistence on waiting for him to magically change his mind.
Not a good start for Eric.
All 3 of them should share equal blame IMO. A wonderful showcase of inexperience at every level.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
We briefed the media when we pulled out of the Griezmann transfer, I imagine something similar will happen here.
We didn’t with Sancho part 1 though despite us never contacting Dortmund after their deadline. We continued to “chase” him all summer before trying to sign Dembele on loan and signing Amad/Pellistri on deadline day.

At least there will be certainty. United can start seriously looking at alternatives.

There must have been a point where we agreed a fee weeks ago that they arranged the 'next step' right?

What I mean is we agreed a fee and obviously haven't just sat in Manchester doing nothing, we must have had verbal contact with FdJ and Barcelona or else we would have pulled out of the deal. The moment he went on tour was the moment we should have known he didn't want to come, nobody goes on tour and plays games for a club after a fee was agreed.
What is the alternative? Barcelona need to play him because unlike their signings, he is registrable and De Jong isn't going to refuse to play or go on tour because it would give Barcelona legal reasons to not pay him future bonuses.

There is nothing reputable about the Athletic when it comes to Football, they hired a bunch of hacks that we used to not trust. Now Ornstein is a good reporter but he said nothing about De Jong's preferences.
Would be quite simple for EtH to call De Jong and see what his preference is should he leave Barca. If it's Chelsea, we move on asap. Very worried that we end up with no holding midfielder.

People can blame Ten Hag and I'm with them but this is the result of a weak structure and incompetent people in charge who are learning on the job.

Murtough is higher in the hierarchy than him and he could've stopped this a long time ago.
But we gotta back the manager who seemingly has no knowledge of players who aren't Dutch or have links with Ajax.

Not really

No one knows his preference if he leaves Barcelona, but it's not outlandish to think he might prefer CL and London to ETH
Precisely. There is no proper information about what FDJ wants. They write this stuff because it sounds plausible and if it pans out that way they can take some credit.

Most worrying would be who the moron we’ve just employed as manager really is.
So, I’m gonna wait on this. Personally think United will shit their pants and pay big.

It's likely. I think this whole thing would have been a lot smoother if he genuinely wanted to come here. All through this saga there has been reports that he wants CL football (and I'm guessing wants to challenge for trophies also). If the stories about him thinking we are a mess of a club are true, then he's probably highly sceptical about our situation, no matter how much he rates ETH. He probably realises our squad is low on quality, our top player wants out. He will 100% consider the possibility that ETH goes the same way as all the other managers before him that couldn't polish a turd either and got sacked.

I love how these guys seem to know his preferences as if they have inside information.
No one knows his preferences as he's not said anything to anyone, so it's all speculation. They have no idea where he'd be more open to going too, i don't know if it makes them sound more knowledgeable than they are if they report that a player peferrs X vlub to Y club etc

Chelsea are already in CL, and London is more appealing of a city than Manchester. A lot of players don’t want to join a project. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he went to Chelsea. We need him more though.

Apparently FdJ has officially refused to talk to us or anybody until he gets a resolution on the wages front. Unless Chelsea are willing to spunk up their money to pay the 17m nothing has really changed, other than them showing interest in the same way we have.

What I think will happen. He'll go Chelsea, unless Bayern step in which I think is very much possible. He'd suit them well.

We'll leave the CM position (we have essentially added Eriksen, Savage, Iqbal & Garner) where we will get by, to an extent, for a season whilst assessing these youngsters. Who happen to look really good. We'll go all in and sign Antony plus Sesko or another CF. Ronaldo will eventually leave.
Yeh I think this is what will happen. If so Ten Haag should be given a season of low expectations and to implement something for next year, as we’d be way off the rest of the top 6. If we can go into 23/24 with a couple of young players fully integrated and proven to be good enough a la Saka/Smith Rowe, Ronaldo out and 3 to 4 good signings in we’d be ready to compete.

Yes that's true. So moral of the story is we won't know either way...

I still struggle to believe that he’s choose Chelsea over United. I may be proven wrong.

Having digested the mornings news though, all that’s happened is another team has shown interest and are making a bid. All the while, Bernardo to Barca is hotting up, so one way or another, Frenkie staying at Barcelona looks very unlikely

I wonder if Chelsea are also willing to pay it all upfront which might help Barca use some it to find a settlement with De Jong quickly if that is indeed one of the stumbling blocks. We might be more structured plus addons. I know the reports said we upped the fee and reduced the addons somewhat to help. If De Jong is willing to go to Chelsea I can see them paying what's needed in one go.

The Chelsea development is fairly recent. If they've come in late and he would rather go there - EtH needs to know.

The only reports about him not wanting to come are from Sports who changed their tune in the last days.

Doubt this happens. Barca are going to take this to the deadline to try and pressure De Jong into forgoing the 17 million. Even a higher bid from either team won't likely change it because it's still potentially an extra 17 million for Barca.

This would be incredibly snakey from De Jong if he turns us down. Incredibly.

He would have strung United and Ten Hag along all this time.

I just feel he was never interested in us, I bet if Chelsea/PSG or whoever agreed a fee the wage situation would have been sorted in a few days, he would never have gone on tour.

I bet they've paid him close to 5m in wages throughout this summer just because they took him on tour, that's ridiculous when the whole point of selling him is to reduce their costs.

I think that might have been me when I was drunk.

Honestly, I'm happy to stick by it; having my account deleted from here if this deal goes tits up would be absolute blessing.
