Looks like this is not happening, at least not to ManUtd. Hopefully we have other transfers lined up as backup option.

99% of what's been reported on this is people guessing and speculating.

The only people who are directly involved who have made any specific comments are Xavi and Laporta and even then, they've been as neutral as possible. We want him to stay but it's complicated.... type stuff

Guys relax. Breathe.

Don't let the barcelona mouthpieces scare you.

Its a last ditch effort to squeeze more money out of us.

Trust in ETH. It will get done.

What's in it for ffpolo to just make up something like this, besides the obvious clickbait? It's such a bold statement. If they really are clueless and he ends up joining Man Utd, it would ruin what credibility they have regarding transfers.

Are they just a Barca mouthpiece trying their best to encourage Chelsea to make a bid? How would that even work? Surely Chelsea would already be in contact with FdJ's agent and know full well the situation.

Any media outlet sticking their neck out like this seems pretty conclusive, if for no other reason than I can't understand why they would make it up...

Romano and other tier 1 Journalists have been saying for around 6 weeks that FdJ isn’t interested. The only thing going for United was the thought that ‘we surely wouldn’t chase him for 3 months if he didn’t want to come’ when in fact we have one of the worst boards in Europe that’s exactly what we have done. Just like we need a forward and don’t have one.

People don't seem to grasp that he gets his money if he stays at Barce, his wages this season see him become one of the best paid players in Europe. There's absolutely zero incentive to move to Manchester and the Europa League it’s been obvious all summer.

Alot of it is barcelona briefings.

In fact most of it is.

Dead silence from tier 1s in england, other than the occassional opinion piece/tweet.

If he was going to Chelsea, ten Hag wouldn't have been as cheerful, when it came up in yesterday's presser. At least that's what I am going to keep telling myself.

It's all bullshit and crapstirring from Barca.

They want United to panic and pay off de Jongs wages and they're using the Chelsea interest to do so. It'll either work well for them, or it'll backfire big time. Lets wait and see
How would that even work. ETH is in daily/regular contact with the player or his agent at least. He will definitely know whether the Chelsea interest is real or just made up by Barcelona.

Whether its staying at Barca or joining Chelsea its just par for the course for United at this point.

Certainly wouldn't blame ETH for this, hes obviously in complete control of transfers but he shouldn't be hes not a scout, our director of football isn't actually a director of football is he there is no structure behind him giving him the targets and the knowledge he needs to succeed.

Id agree with this, but I dont think someone like Harry Redknapp comes out with saying he knows for a fact he won't join and he has a strong source (obviously fergie). I just cant get passed that and all the noise is now about Chelsea. I think he was going to join us but now a champions league club are in were second choice. Hope im wrong.

And John Murtough wouldn't have made that grin when someone asked him to get Frenkie.

Honestly he looked more nervous to me than cheerful. Wouldn't read too much into it.

It's not a clickbait, it's not in the title of the article, you would have to read it to see United or Chelsea mentioned. Now it's not a breaking news, it's a speculative paragraph, basically the article is about Barcelona need to sell players and reduce the wage bill, in that context De Jong's exit is welcomed but the player has no intention to make it easy. Chelsea are increasingly interested and could be enticing because they are a big club and play in the CL, unlike United. That last comparison/point is totally speculative.

As an older member of the forum, I can say categorically that redknapp is a salesman who tells great stories but rarely does he have any inside knowledge to our transfer dealings and is just basing this off heresay from who knows what bloke he spoke to down at the pub.

The wheeler dealer's opinions need to be taken with a grain of salt.

Is he allowed to say what he thinks without citing a source or am I missing something? I thought forums were a place where you can express your opinion and others can agree or disagree.
Where you are presenting something as fact in a transfer thread you need to provide a source. Then people can form an opinion on the source and the bigger picture. If he made it up or he was told it by a dog down the park our opinion is going to be very negative about him and his input

Then I wish we would and put an end to this 'Mexican standoff'. We either want the guy or we don't, lets stop pretending and pay the money, or shut up shop!

We are subject to this kind of negotiating stance from clubs all the time. I can't remember a time when United showed interest in a player that his price didn't immediately go up.... to us.... if we failed to respond, it went back down again.
We are better off bringing our own through the ranks, or trying to spot talent before they become big box office. Otherwise we have to accept we will pay 'top dollar'. Try to negotiate yes OK, but not for this length of time; the season starts for us tomorrow and the supposed key player our new manager wants, is not even in the country, let alone on the training pitch.

Don't think it would affect him either way though.

But I'm sure if this one was not happening, we would have briefed the press that we moved on to another target/pulled the plug.

Its still radio silence from our english T1 sources right now regarding us.

Obvious difference is the player actually wanted to come
We don't know if de Jong wants to come or not. All he's said is he'd rather stay. It's the media thats said he's ruled out United, and even at one point ruled out Chelsea.

They don't know. Barca will leak what they want printing, but thats about it.
