If thats more than stupid... What is the only way to win today?

I swear people will start blaming the manager again in a couple of weeks and it's barely funny. At the least speculate on certain weaknesses.
What the most stupidest thinking is that there is only one way to win today’s game.

You know, if I was member on RAWK, and them having "RedCafe meltdown" thread, I would quote 2/3 of the posts from this thread only.
On a positive note, we needed this SLAP early on to be honest ... Imagine if we won 4-1 today (as I predicted :smirk:), we won't buy any player. Maybe a blessing in disguise.

ETH decided to start his united career by trusting McFred. United lost 3 point. He is getting what he deserves. Only hope is he learns and improvise. Let see how the next game goes.

I like him. Hope united improves under him.

ETH need time and support but if I see McFred starting again in any other match then I’ll know it’s something beyond the manager enforcing the decision. My little sister cried when she sees these 2 legends start together today.

I would bet next match Erikson starts in the middle with one of fred or mctominah (hopefully fred).

We badly need a top MF who can retain the ball under pressure and play one touch passes.

Erikson made a huge difference in MF today in the second half.
Eriksen was better but also Brighton dropped a bit deeper and why wouldn't they, leading with two goals away from home. Certainly Fred isn't really suited to the role he seemed to be intended to fulfill but I thought, the whole midfield setup today was fishy - a lobsided triangle with Fred behind McTom and Eriksen. Which per se is a thing but the way it played out with Fred being left for dead again and again did only make his task more difficult.
We have to remember that we aren't playing in a vacuum. Opponents will react - even with Eriksen pulling a bit of strings, it isn't like we produced many chances in 2nd half. Early days but I think the manager is up for a rough start if he thinks he can get by without paying the league some respect. And that means physicality isn't something to look down to and intensity is one of the most valuable currencies.

If he doesn't get more players he'll have a really really hard time. God help him with these set of players

In fairness i saw erikson a couple of times making one touch passes. Mctominah on the other hand slows the game down.

You have to keep the tempo up to open up the opposition defence.

Hope i am wrong but there is no way he can break the mold, only way was for him to remove the cnuts but he choose clean slate, learn about the squad on his own and similar bullshit, he would have better luck to train bunch of hungry young guns without quality.

Inexcusable of him to start McFred really. Stevie Wonder can see that doesn’t work.

Why do people keep saying "time"? Time for what? To coach McTominay and Rashford?

He needs players. And he needs to be flexible in his targets. We need a wholesale changes yet we've been linked to zero RBs or CDMs.

It's absurd. We cannot persist solely on De Jong and Antony and then have no alternatives to fall back on. His alternative after Sesko is Arnautovic, a former Twente player of his. This isn't sustainable. And it's laughable anyone who thinks it is.

At the same time, he must get out of this idea of "if we don't get the right player, we will do what we can with what we've got" - Fred, McTominay, Fernandes, Rashford et al are fundamentally flawed footballers. It will cost him his job.

The recruitment has been pathetic. Arnold and Murtough are a disgrace alongside the Glazers. We've come off of such an awful season and we've made no material difference to our XI. It's utterly laughable.

A GK to challenge De Gea, a RB, a CDM, a CM, a RW and a #9 to challenge Ronaldo. THAT is what we need.

Ten Hag isn't going to get that and he won't get a tune out of who we have at the club. He is going to falter, can see it from a mile off.
Painfully accurate, hit the nail on the head. I'm fully buying into the "don't spend money if you aren't fully in love" philosophy of business, but to hear that constantly and then read the Arnautovic rumors feels like a punch in the gut.

Its as simple as this

Just one example of many is still starting McFred in our midfield sums up how slow and naive we've been in the window and really how much progress we've made since last season

The one I blame is Murtough. ETH is just getting accustomed to the squad and he may think he can coach these players into something but Murtough should know there's no way we should start a new season with McFred in midfield and relying on Rashford

Ragnicks handover was meant to help the process of getting rid of players

The whole thing was a shambles and pointless

Next game is key. If he plays McFred again then I'd suggest that the club need to inspect the manager's office for gas leaks.

I do hope you're right, however I have the gut feeling he is over confident in his abilities and will continue to persist with the likes of Shaw, McFred and one or two others thinking he can train them.
I do winder why fans believe that a manager would want to keep playing these players.

Maybe the manager does want some more signings but he isn't getting them. So it would be counter productive to slate the only players he has got to the press and to fans like us.

The problem is the same as it has been for many years. The owners and the mistakes under Woodward.

Except finding someone to blame, what else are you capable to do? It’s ok. Just keep blaming anyone pop up in your mind.

Had a bad feeling when he chose to completely disregard Ralf's "dossier". Hopefully he realizes the players aren't up to it sooner rather than later.

Still believe we have to go back 3 with WBs to maximize this squad. Lack of cover in front of the defence is going to keep getting us, especially if FBs are to do much more going forward. Hope EtH can try that

Looks like Erik ten Hag will not be good enough. We should go for Erik twelve Hag.

There is of course some truth to what you say, however we had Donny and Garner sat on the bench. We saw Iqbal and Savage both have solid pre seasons.

I'm not saying for a second they are definitely the answer to our prayers in midfield, but you have got to start somewhere.

There was and is absolutely nothing stopping ETH from playing any of those 4 players mentioned to start a new CM pairing off. I would expect it to be an issue still at the start but at least there is evidence the manager is trying to change things and start something new.

Under pressure from day 1 now. A bad result next Saturday will see us play Liverpool the week after this could get real ugly.

Not suggesting it’s his fault btw I’m fully behind him. The recruitment has been a complete joke.

Tbh I'm not that bothered. It's going to take couple of years to fix this mess so one result is neither hear nor there.

I was just looking at the fixtures, if we don’t win at Brentford we have no chance v Liverpool then it’s Southampton away, Leicester away, Arsenals home then Palace away.
There’s a realistic chance it could be 8 games in v Leeds before we have a chance to win our first league game

Go beyond the players and the shape today may cause issues. 2 CB's playing a high line, full backs pushed on, 1 CM supporting deep, the other very high, going to be very open to the counter when the initial press is broken.

Can Maguire and Lisandro work as a pair in that system? Might have to hope Varane can recover close to his best level to give us some speed in defensive recovery.

Top 6 was always the likely outcome this year, maybe a sneak at 4th if Ten Hag was a miracle worker.
