I've admired the way Brighton have been run these last few years - great manager and some of the best recruitment in the league.

Anyone have any idea who's in charge of the recruitment? A good team, a DoF? Of course the directive is likely handed down from Bloom himself, which must help a lot given he made his money in sports analytics, but I wonder how involved he is himself. I remember reading he had a guy from the rival betting syndicate (Brentford's owners firm) on Brighton's board.

When you look at the state of United's board and our poor recruitment team it's night and day.
Dan Ashworth became the Technical Director at Brighton the year before Potter joined I think. Recently got pinched by Newcastle (cnuts). Very highly rated.

It feels quite nailed on to me, I don't think Brighton are the type of club to stand in his way if they get a fair bid? 50-60m? City have plenty of funds after Zinchenko, Sterling, Jesus and Torres sales this year. They also surely cant go in to the new season with Ake as 2nd choice left back, its a position they need to invest in, and also seems no point in looking elsewhere for a stop gap if he is attainable.
Purely a hunch here, but could City be cleaning up their finances with all these sales to pave the way for harsher restrictions to curb the rise of Newcastle?

They basically control the FA and UEFA so it wouldn’t surprise me. They can afford to clean up now too since they’ve gained their artificial success already.

We bought Simon Adringa from Denmark this summer and loaned him straight out to USG in Belgium, this is his first goal for them!

Lovely! Someone who can finish should perhaps not be out on loan?

The sale of Cucurella to Chelsea is the first big sale we’ve had that worries me.

March, Trossard and Mitoma can all play left wing back but none are really known for their defensive abilities.

Apparey according to Andy Naylor, Potter thinks Colwill can play LB but as far as I know all his games have been at CB.

With White and Bissouma we knew exactly how that would work, I don’t think anyone expected Cucu to be so good and leave so soon at such a high fee!

Think they can push for 7th.

Such a well run premier league club, you'd never have guessed they've just lost Bissouma and Cucerella in how they played today.

What a good player Moises Caciedo is, superb again in central midfield against top 6 team from last season.

Will Potter be considered for big job if it comes up? The quality of football Brighton play can not be denied, but his profile might not fit what fans demand, a bit like Howe when he had Bournemouth flying.

@The Boy congrats on the result today mate. I’m confident we will be in much better shape in the return fixture but very well played.
Cheers, I normally stay off the caf for a bit when we have results like this!

But agreed this is just the first match of a new era for you and things can only get better.

Was at the game today, could hear the Brighton lot from up near the top of the SAF stand, on the other end of the stadium. Partially helped by the fact that the place was a library due to the sheer disbelief at what was happening. But still.

They’re a well drilled side, super organised and each player knows their role and executes it. Well deserved win today for sure.

I think the profile fits very well honestly. He has shown himself not only adaptable tactically on his own merit, but his modern approach to football is right along what we've been looking for. His teams have enormous fight and spirit not to mention they are so well drilled they can go up against anyone on their day. Only team I've seen outplaying City for such long periods a game. Coach is the real deal, no matter the "profile" we're looking for. However, he wont get to build a side here. He'll be judged harshly when coming in, has to mainly work with what he has got, maybe get a couple cheap signings.. because we can't afford to discard players as they are treated as money assets. It will leave him a team that is not up for it, and he has no power to change it. He'd probably say no to the job.

Ten Haag will probably also see his status as a progressive coach diminish because of these conditions.

I think the next time a big job opens up in the PL, Graham Potter is expected to be right up there. Very composed and mature performance from them. He's also getting the best out of his players which has led to the 100 plus million from just two defenders. Getting Welbeck playing like he was yesterday is just unbelievable.

This proves nothing, we'll get outplayed by many teams this year, Brighton will finish mid table (which is good for a club their size) hopefully next season they can keep their best players and manager and then they'll be fighting for a european place.

Dunno. It was a well-drilled team - that takes time. At Brighton, Potter has been given the time to get the team to be playing at that level.
Not sure he will have that same amount of time at a bigger club like any of the top 6 clubs.

United was supposedly interested in him according to Tim Vickery -- who said that Caicedo was the real deal. He went for peanuts to Brighton.

And Caicedo is only 20. :(

Shows exactly our state of affairs when we miss out on Caicedo to Brighton. He would moonwalk into our team.

Lamptey gets spoken about a lot but I feel like he’s always on the bench when I watch Brighton

Good game. Bissou-who? Hasn't missed a beat at all.

Please keep hold of Potter, or only ship him out of the country.

With all the sales and loans I think BHA are a bit short of squad depth, some players leaving for regular game time. Are Spanish keepers error prone? Dunk for England?

Another very good performance today I thought against a Leeds side who themselves have been quite impressive this season so far. But Brighton controlled this game and really should have won by more. Were leading the league at times during their game.

I said in the PL match thread Pascal Gross and Trossard are the most in form combo out there. Their link ups are brilliant aided by the off ball movements of the team.

The new signing Estupinian looks good, is pacy and athletic but had a couple of clangers losing the ball which led to Leeds best chances. But I think he'll be a hit.

Fair play, been a great start to the season for Brighton - they're one of the teams I defo enjoy watching play. Such a well run club too, they have an amazing structure.

BHA have just a basic squad of about 15 players with no safeguard of experience in reserves should injuries take their toll. Relying on young unproven players, but like a few other clubs as well. 89% of fans glad BHA got rid of Maupay. But the inability to score runs through half the side.

Yeah they lack an out and out goalscorer. Could be their eventual undoing

I feel like they are very light in terms of the squad. There aren’t many games between now and the WC though so I think a lot of teams are going to take the risk and wait until Jan for some spots.

They signed Undav - whether he turns out any good or not is another matter. 43 goals in 63 games at his last team in the Belgium league, though.
