I know it's not all about big names, but would Fulham fans even be particularly excited about this signing ffs

What further evidence do we need?
But what was his role at Ajax? Wasn't it Overmaar's job to identify and secure targets, and his job to coach the first team? If so, I'm hardly surprised. He strikes me as the kind of guy only focused on what's right in front of his nose.

This is on the board, and whatever shambles of a football structure we have left after gutting the scouting department (not that it was pulling up any trees, mind you).

So, fine. It reflects terribly on the club, but different rules apply for this transfer window.
I agree with this in principle.

However:

1) Arnautovic likely wants a long term contract (the reports say he's after 3 years - which makes sense from his POV, of course, a last shot at a big or at least biggish deal).

2) He's a controversial figure. Any idiot could've predicted that he'd a cause a stir, which is the very last thing United need at this point in time.

Conclusion: if ETH doesn't realize why he just isn't a viable option - then it has to be Murtough's job to step in and say no (even given what you say above - which I largely agree with, i.e. the special nature of this window).

The fact that he didn't simply veto this thing straight away does not speak well for him - it's pretty close to being plain, common sense.

Signing this twat and not getting De Jong will seriously test my ability to watch MUFC this year. So many of our games start at 10pm local time on a Sunday for me and I have to be up at 4am Monday for work. I took a day off today to watch the first game of the season. I cannot justify watching this car crash of a squad and then get excited for this twat and a deadline day 80 million on Tielemans/neves.

This club is a disgrace. This twat, even if ETH wants him, should be the kind of signing you make when you're 10-15 points clear in the league at Xmas but you've had a series of striker injuries and you need a warm body out there.

This is a fecking joke, he is not a season starting option, i'd play Garnacho ahead of him, even out of position. He is a no talent hack.

This will surely die given the reactions.

The fact that we're even talking about it :nervous:

Unfortunately I can't imagine who in the hierarchy would have even suggested Arnautovic other than ETH, pulling from his experience with his old players. I just can't see why he would be considered as a possibility for us if not for his old link with our manager. Which is a fluttering red flag that I'm choosing to ignore for now.

In resent times Arsenal and Liverpool have sank much lower. We could go there too, easily.
When Arsenal sank lower they were building/built a new stadium, when Liverpool sank lower, it was short-term and they weren't bleeding any money. Our case is worse.

All EtH signings have looked good so far. So maybe this one would work also.

I'm not anti Scottish, I just wanted Moyes out.
Can't believe we actually made a bid for this player. I know its true but I just can't believe it.Its just so wrong for so many reasons. Is this down to ETHs annoying habit of only signing players he has worked with? It's just baffling and annoying. We can't sign this player.

Nah we ain’t signing this arsehole, no shot that’s happening.
Has to be some sort of a highly cynical smokescreen for someone decent.

IF his character wasn't so questionable and we still got Sesko then wouldn't have an issue but he's had racism issues.

Have people forgotten what happened in the Euros when he scored, thought Arnold & Murtough were about vetting people.

Blimey I didn't think someone could suggest a signing on the same level of toxic as Suarez but been proved wrong, scary thing it's tier 1's reporting it too

Absolutely bang on but it's money and you know what scumbags the Glazers are with that
Funny thing is if we gave Fulham £40m for Mitrovic, just a figure plucked from thin air, would they take some of that money and sign Arnautovic themselves? Would they feck.

Signs are starting to appear that ETH might be in way over his head. His a great coach, no doubt working with a crap board, but the FDJ fiasco and if this is true doesn’t look good.

The worse thing about today was that we played well in the second half when ETH stopped trying to play his way.

My heart wants ETH to succeed, my mind thinks he’s good enough. But I’m starting to get a feeling in my gut that it’s going to unravel very quickly

Our transfer window is starting to feel like when its transfer deadline day on FIFA and you see on the ins outs summary and for some reason man city have sold De Brunye, Rodri, Laporte and Ederson and signed Neto, Coady, Pjanic and Barkley and you laugh and go ‘feck thats horrific but its a video game and unrealistic’.

The whole rebuild is becoming a fallacy and a sick joke

Seriously, after 1 game, got to be a joke right? Support the manager. Its the club hierarchy that's letting us down, time and time again. Peak Fergie and Guardiola or Klopp would take a long time to turn this around with such limited resources and people above making daft decisions.

I have been up all night, its 04.34 at the moment and just thinking about how we can solve our problems and this striker issue is becoming a huge one. Ronaldo has zero interest in being here, Martial could have been (and i still believe that in a team that is working like it should, lets say City, he would score 20 goals in a season without injuries, i'm one of those who still believe that there is a good player in him just that he is not THAT good that he can carry a team, he is more of a player that would link up great with great players around him) maybe a striker that would at least work "ok" for us this season while we focus on sorting out the defense and midfield this season. But right now we are back where at level 0. We basically need a world class CB (if Martinez, as i would recommend, should play as a CDM) or a world class CDM (if Martinez is playing CB), we need another world class CM (FDJ would be the answer but he doesn't want to leave Barcelona and if he does, even if Chelsea are more focused on sorting out other position, they would let the chance of signing him slip throw and he will end up there - like Kovacevic, Kante, Saul etc). We also need a real RW and a striker that can play 40 matches this season and be 20+ goals type of player - which i can not come up with one that is available or would like to join us. To be honest i can not even come up with a RW (besides Antony that we have hyped up like it Salah be would get, the guy didn't barely score 10g and get 10a in Eredevise and his value all suddenly 100m euros (?!). The CB situation could be solved with Pau Torres, and move up Martinez as a CDM but the again we would still need a FDJ type next to him to have a balance in the midfield, and if stop dreaming about FDJ, then who? Fabio Ruiz was available, until PSG got him, Lamer is going to Bayern if he leave Leipzig, Renato Sanchez is at PSG as well. While we have spent 2 months chasing FDJ who almost openly to told us imminently that he was not coming to a club so destroyed that even the players that are here doesn't know what they are doing or which system they are playing or in which position they are supposed to be training for to play at (Sancho RW-LW, Rasford LW-RW-ST, Martial LW-ST, Bruno LF-CAM-CM, Eriksen ST-CAM-CM-CDM, Martinez CDM-CB etc etc). We bought Varane, top 10 CB before joining us last summer, is sitting on the bench while we keep playing the big captain of ours that has not played a really good match in like 2 years for us, Malacia started almost every game in preseason and did it really good just to start the first game on the bench.

Also our expectations on Ten Hag are so high, and to be honest, why? Because he had good run in CL with a team filled with great talent, that comes up once in 10-20 years for a team from their youth system (class of 92, not comparing, just trying to prove my point) and 2-3 signings that worked out and over performed one season (De Ligt, De Jong, Ziyhech, Tadic, VDB, Martinez, Olana etc) and won a league that has 2 good teams and the rest are playing on level were they can be compared to out under-23s. I am not saying he might not, and i hope and beg for it to be so, sort things out in 2-3 years and maybe he will be our Klopp - but we our acting like got Guardiola or Klopp and not a manager that hopefully one day will be 50% of the manager they are today.

Our signings? We needed a RB badly, we signed a LB were we had 2 that should play on much higher level then they are (Shaw and Telles, also Williams upcoming and Fernandez). We have 5 CBs (Maguire, Lindelöf, Jones, Bally, Tuanzebe) - and we decided to break the bank and pay almost 60m for Martinez while we lost Pogba, Matic, Mata in midfield and have replaced them with who? Eriksen that should be playing in the same position as Bruno? I dont get it. Wasn't it supposed to be the summer where we finally had people behind the scene with braines and knowledge about how to run a football club finally and manager with a plan since he knew in April already which players we would release and what and where we needed to strength the team? 4 months has passed and we are still chasing FDJ and are in need of a RB, CB/CDM, CM, RW and ST. Where is the plan that everybody was talking about was the reason Ten Hag had to get sorted out before he decided to join us? Didn't he say he wanted all to be clear, his staff, the board, the system of playing, which players we want and have plan A, B and C if things didn't as planned, like with FDJ, he told us no, then move ffs on and get plan B - we are 3 weeks from the windows closing and us showing the players we are chasing the performance we put up today against a team most of the players we want to join would think we should win with 5-0, you think FDJ was sitting today watching the game and felt "oh yes, that is were i want to be next week, please make it happen".

I cant take it anymore, we are so far from where we should be in matters. NOTHING that we thought we had sorted out, and the hope when Ten Hag signed 3 months ago gave us, has happened or will. This season, without us not putting up like 300m and just getting 5-6 players of the highest class wont change anything. New manager, 2-3 new players that will flop or play some good matches but not take us not higher level, new people cashing in behind the scene and Glazers screwing us like they have done for 20 years. Same old story since 2013. I could make a list of how many world class players have moved this summer and we got 0 one them, instead we payed 60m for Martinez (almost the same fee as City for Haaland).
Just to name some - Haaland, Nunez, Jesus, Sterling, Koulibaly, Lewandowski, Tchouameni, Richarlison , Kalvin Phillips, Mane and list goes on.
Good night my friends - i hope we one day are back were we belong - i just hope most of us are alive again when we get to lift the PL trophy again at Old Trafford!

Ugh. Is this the extent of our scouting network?!
I'd rather us hijack Wolves signing Hwang Ui-Jo than going for a 33 year-old never been.
Wolves apparently bid £2.5 million and Bordeaux values him around £7 million. The same amount Bologna rejected from us.

Boggles the mind that we weren't in for that Scamacca lad if we want a target man with a bit of technique about him.. There's some fecking sabotage going on at this club.

Well and truly horrific state we are in. Marko fecking Arnautovic playing for Manchester United at the age of 33-34. Unfeckingbelievable.
