How we can possibly have any confidence in the club whatsoever, if they were ‘taken by surprise by the fans reaction’ to this?
This is what's scary to me. This is what is most alarming and makes it painfully clear we're not run by football people at all. It was obvious to anyone who is even remotely invested in the sport that this should never have been even contemplated, let alone got to the stage where we were bidding.

That’s the most worrying part, innit?

We’ve supposedly got a plan.

And that plan is backing the manager 100% by going through his rolodex for our recruitment strategy and buying Marko Arnautovic.

Unless the fans make a bit of fuss.

Absolutely nothing makes any sense at all. It all appears completely random; a scattergun approach without rhyme or reason.

I have looked into it and all i found was that he shouted: "im your f albanian mother"

Even UEFA banned him only for insulting another player.

"The UEFA Appeals Body has decided to suspend Austrian Football Association player, Marko Arnautovic, for the next (1) UEFA representative team competition match for which he would be otherwise eligible, for insulting another player," the statement reads.

I havent found the racist insult. Insults now count as racism ?

Arnautovic denied any racist allegations, i am starting to see why he did it unless i missed the racist insult that ocurred in another moment.

Albania vs macedonia this a case of regional battles, history, issues.

People who want to link markos insult to macedonians to racism just want to be offended.

Calm down.
Insults that involve people's race are generally classed as racism, funnily enough and telling people to calm down is patronising.

Uefa is a dreadful arbiter of what classes as racism.

Few. The idea that is was even considered is still scary. Just shows how bad the structure and recruitment process at the lib still is.

Doing a fairly simple background check should be pretty easy and one doesn't even need to be a football head to do that.
The people at the helm of the club are just morons disconnected from the reality of the modern world.
Imagine if Arnautovic had no racist incidents to his name, it means we'd have signed him which still would have been ridiculous.

I get what you are trying to say but the key difference is "intent". Cavani was saying "thanks..." and used an anachronistic term as the second word. This word does have a different usage in some parts of the world and Cavani can claim some degree of ignorance about how a Direct translation of that term could be misinterpreted. He also felt he had been treated as harshly as those who had used such terms in a much more negative context.

As a older white male if I said "thanks blood" to a black man passing me my drink in a crowd it would be naff, uncomfortable, maybe a bit stereotyping but not outright offensive. However if I had been listing to a lot of rap music and said "Thanks my N....." then I would be totally in the wrong and would apologise. I could use the "cultural excuse" that I had been listening to rap music and used the term in an inappropriate way etc, but it still wouldn't excuse using the term.

Arnautovic used the N word on a number of occasions against opposition players to intimidate and belittle them. There are also cases of him hassling the women's players at West Ham and disrupting their training. Disrupting another teams training is definitely unprofessional and potentially threatening or predatory behaviour.

Will a future Ukraine vs Russia football game in a few years be a spicy affair with a lot of anger, taunts and tackles flying in...probably. But that is a different from intimidating and threatening players with racial taunts, It is racial hatred and should play no part in the modern game.

I'm relieved we seem to have pulled back from this moment of madness, but my god the club shouldn't be like a 4 year old at a bowling alley, needing the fans to act as some sort of moral conscience to keep them on the straight and narrow!
I agree that Cavani had no intent because the term is used different there, and I fully accept that. Now apply that same standard to the Luis Suarez/Patrice Evra situation, because reasoning was the exact same, and I don't recall very many United fans being accepting of it.

Melissa reddy.. loving her tweet about lack of strategy. She’s been a mouthpiece all pre season and positive about us.. so it’s good to see she speaks the truth when needed.

No, it was not. Suarez was antagonizing/deliberately provoking Evra and he didn't use the same term either.

I take it you mean "I'm fecking your Albanian mother" (not "I'm your fecking Albanian mother" - which actually would've been a brilliant, if somewhat incomprehensible, insult).

Anyway - the translation doesn't capture what he said according to native speakers: he didn't use the neutral term "Albanian" but an uglier word, a derogatory term referring to someone with a particular background.

So we have backed out of signing a player we decided to buy in a panic due to some angry emails sent to the chief executive. We really are run by a bunch of daft cnuts.

We were daft to even consider him. This is the most sensible thing out of the whole situation, all involved in that decision should hang their head in shame.

What worries me is that if he wasn’t racist that we would likely have signed him based on deeming him to be a valuable addition to the team right now.

I’m not sure what’s more scary, that it took the fans raging out for the club to realize signing a known racist, sexist guy is a bad idea, or that they think he is what we need right now.

Arnautovic however is not quite as past it as Cavani. He also wouldn't go AWOL half the season. Not that I'm in favour of signing him but the reactions on here are a bit over the top from posters that have probably never seen him play
Kneejerking aside, I remember watching him at Stoke. Completely uninspiring and consistently struggled to score. That said his chances were limited as Stoke City at that point were very defensive.

Just when you think the club can’t sink any lower.

Next we’ll be deciding transfer targets via Twitter polls. We can use it to show club social media engagement when we’re shopping around for a new shirt sponsor.

It will get to him a lot quicker than a hashtag will.
It would, but it would mean nothing. Unless it's something being shared publicly, such things don't tend to hold much weight with senior management of a company. At best, it might mean they ask for an improved email filter for the company. I know that most medium to large companies I've worked with have pretty complex email firewalls to stops this sort of thing having any impact.

Such a BS argument - Arsenal just signed Jesus and Zinchenko. Newcastle signed Bruno and Botman. What exactly was their pull above United ? Top 5 from PL get CL this year and in couple of years PL would be more attractive than CL.

Lack of proper planning is why we are in this mess now. CR7 should have been thrown out the moment he didn't turn up for preseason. A striker should have been targeted long back. We are just doing the same mistake as of last year.
What was their pull? Actual fecking direction. United have not got a clue on what they are doing.

Those two examples can be explained easily.

- Arsenal have a young team with a lot of good pieces and have shown obvious progression and direction

- Newcastle have done something United are awful at, proper scouting in bidding on guys like Guimarães and Botman while United are chasing FDJ and Haaland when those players laugh at the prospect of joining United in their current state.

The only reason FDJ might join is to play with some of his buddies and former manger. Like I said in the first post you will get the few exceptions who will go to United to get a nice pay day I.E Pogba, Alexis.

As I keep stating United have a much bigger problem then played and coaches and the worst part is they have no clue on how to fix it at the moment.

He also played left wing. Was better at West Ham as a striker. Missing the magic of being a great goalscorer, but very good and well rounded otherwise. Had we been signing the player that left them, I would be saying we were getting a good player. Doubt he's the same player though, and seems it's no longer on the cards anyway.

McTominay and Fred aren't racists. If the club pulled out of every signing who fans thought were crap we wouldn't sign anyone this window

Except that Albania is not really a race... different backgrounds live there, most are tanned muslims yes, but still difficult to label Albania as one race.

That's a shit excuse, and he's Austrian
I mean... by now everyone knows if a name ends with "-ic" its worth doing a little background check to avoid these kind of suprises. If this upsets you, dont dig further into Sasa Kalajdzic as you will find both are from Serbian descent.

The same Newcastle who pretty much tried every single available player ? You call that as scouting ? Nice !!

Arsenal has been one of the biggest spenders in the last 2 years. The only reason why Jesus joined is because of the reason you mentioned - his buddies !!

Direction and scouting- my foot.
