He was frightening against West Ham...dude is larger unit than Zouma and the acceleration and explosive power is of a track athlete. Just don't understand why people would want to slag off a talent like this. Injuries are his only issue, just like the majority of players. But a player of his skillset at the CF position within a team like City...injuries could be his reducer.

He will be benched eventually
I don't see how he doesn't get benched unless he makes improvements to his all-round game.

Right now, he's too one-dimensional to make a difference in key games and Baldy knows it. Alvarez will be doing heavy lifting.

He will be top scorer in the Premiership if he stays free of injury. We need a CF of this calibre if we are to have any chance of catching the top 3/4 teams here.

I can see him being the PL best scorer but City as a team scoring overall less goals because of them focusing it all on him.

Looks scary fast and big on the pitch.
Shame we had the chance and turned big headed.

Aye, banging the ball into the back of the net is a real head scratching issue.

Are you serious? He should’ve had a hat trick against Liverpool if not for one of the worst finishing games of his life. On another day, people would be talking about how Van Dijk couldn’t get near him. Also, West Ham away is probably the 5th toughest away game in the league for City…it nearly cost them the title last season.

Id love for him to flop, but it ain’t gonna happen.

I do find it really funny that all the super smart, never wrong posters on this forum are convinced that you don’t need number 9s to win anymore. City get this guy who will score a ton, Nunez at pool looks like he will get a decent chunk and we know lewa at barca will score. All the best teams want a prolific striker but people on here are convinced the game has “evolved”.
The game has changed, but its always going to be about putting the balls more times in the opposition’s net to win. Strikers tend to do that.

They said identical things about Aguero. He scored a huge amount under Pep, including loads against the top sides. Pep is just much more adaptable than people want to believe.

No team in particular

I don't think I've seen anyone here or elsewhere say that, what most people are saying is that football has evolved from the Inzaghi/Trezeguet type of target men and that's true.

As for needing a pure striker to score a lot of goals, City already showed that they could outscore every other team in Europe in the course of a whole season without a striker, but that didn't mean they didn't need/want a very good one.

Not true. I’ve had multiple people tell me that days of playing with a 9 are gone, pointing to how pep and klopp play. And they’ve both gone out and bought number 9s. The days of playing with someone like Inzaghi/Chica type players have been gone for the last 15 years, so that is literally nothing new.

Not really sure when I last saw a young striker this good. Owen? Rooney? Rooney's overall game was better but Haaland is just a goal machine. R9 is still the best I've seen though.
In terms of making impact at such a young age, Haaland is definitely up there with the very best. I’d say R9 and then Haaland is the best I’ve ever seen. Apparently Haaland is nowhere as talented or skillful as R9, but his strength/speed/goalscoring/ability to bully any defenders is something out of this world.

Frightening? Good lord the hyperbole is insane. The entire league apparatus, pundits, fans are all jizzing over this guy. WHU were pushed up the pitch at 1-0 down and got caught on transition, no one talks about this when Vardy does it.

I'm just reading the tea leaves.

On the Manchester City training ground, many of the players and staff have already noticed something between Erling Haaland and Pep Guardiola that makes them laugh. The manager generally refers to most of the squad by their first names, but that isn’t the case with the new megastar. Guardiola calls him “Haaland” in almost schoolmasterly style. The tone isn’t totally unlike Sir Alex Ferguson berating Lee Sharpe and Ryan Giggs for having a party and referring to them by their squad numbers. “And you, five.”

Although the interactions have brought smiles from teammates, they reflect a serious point. Guardiola sees himself in an educational role here, more than with many other players. He does not yet see Haaland as the finished article, which is one reason why the Norwegian himself has spoken to the media - in that markedly blunt style - of how he has to improve.

Guardiola currently feels Haaland doesn’t press enough, and wants to work on that with him. He wants to make the 22-year-old more of a blur of energy.

Because Vardy regularly goes on a run of 1 goal in 10 games and everyone's fed up with him by the end of it. He's a big part of why Leicester reliably have dreadful patches every single season.

Given you're looking at the recent couple of seasons when he's mid thirties.

Tell me, who holds the record for most consecutive games scored?

And you don't think that's going to happen to a lot of teams?
