It's probably his wages, if he wants 350-400k a week they wont pay it

If Chelsea do sign FDJ do you think Gallagher would be made available?
I think Jorgi and/or Kante would become available before Conor.

Some people are so naive, like it is their first transfer summer.

De Jong is not joining lads, not when Chelsea are seriously interested and he obviously prefers them while we look for other midfielders all of a sudden. This all happened during the last week. The club wont brief like under Woodie, but it is quite obvious that we are looking around, even if we dont withdraw our offer and still lurk in the background.

Marcel Van Der Kraan has just said we’re not giving up, he also said we have a an agreement with Frenkies agent (then looked like he shouldn’t have said it). First time I’ve heard we have an agreement directly with his agent.

Mind to share a link or tweet? That sounds fairly significant

Anyone find it strange how City and Liverpool are so quiet in this race for De Jong, btw? He’s the ideal Pep player and with talk of Bernardo wanting to go to Barca so badly, why don’t they just make a swap work? I could see that happening out of nowhere this window.

And with Liverpool, they’ve just lost Thiago for an extended period, he gets injured all the time, Henderson is like 35, and Keita is also injured and injury prone. I could see them sneaking in under the radar as well.
Liverpool will go big on a midfielder next season (Bellingham) whilst City have Rodri and just bought Phillips.

He also represents Lindelof and Malacia so I don’t think it’s that big a deal to keep him happy. It all depends on Frenkie.

Pep likes control and Frenkie doesn’t bring control. Can’t remember who said it but they described Frenkie as an accelerant. He quickens things up but can’t show things down which is important in peps teams and at Barca.

Our fan base is a fecking mess already. cnuts who turn on the manager before a fecking game is the bit that pisses me the feck off.
If, and thats a big if, Ten Hag has told United to hunt for De Jong based on their communication, and De Jong then simply leaves for Chelsea instead, Ten Hag will seem a bit naive.
But saying that is not the same as turning on the manager.

It's like being 35 points behind the league leaders, technically you don't give up but we all know what's happening.

Yep, saying ETH fecked up doesn't mean turning on him. If all this pursuit is based on the assurances he perceived to get from Frenkie and he doesn't join, of course that's on ETH. Also doesn't mean the others are blameless

Climb out of the Chelsea fans arseholes though

It’s not a good look mate
This whole thread aint a good look mate /shrug

One of the worst transfer saga's to date and I've seen some shit ones.

Fair play to those in here who still thought we'd get him even after it was reported that he had no intention of coming to Manchester 50 times during the past 3 months though.

Don't come into this thread with a nuanced opinion. Completely unwelcome.

But you have zero knowledge about anything on this transfer. Just like the muppets. We are all reading the same things. All making our opinions. You are not an ITK. No one here is.

So coming out with predictions and then glorifying your “Told you so” moments is nothing short of a dick move.

Some here are wanting to “see muppets cry”. Do they really think muppets are going to have their head in their hands and cry themselves into depression? It’s football for feck sake. You dream, you enjoy, you despair.
Not really mate when the information out there was that this was never likely to happen because the player didn't want to join us. The information was out there.

That on top of our track record for years made it entirely feasible that we were chasing a shadow all summer. Actually at this point I'm choosing to laugh, not at muppets but at our situation, it's better than crying.

Ralfie’s legacy lives on. I’m glad some of his fans were entertained in the press conferences, but lack of top four has massively set us back.

The board and football structure obviously take the biggest blame, goes without saying. But from the Boro cup defeat onwards, there was no excuse for not getting top four.

The points you raised have been discussed many times in this thread.

None of them are reasons for chelsea not to go for FDJ.
Probably yes. But it’s valid reasons for me atleast.

Imagine having a midfield of Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic and even Gallagher and still adding FdJ

Meanwhile we have McFred and are after Rabiot. What a joke.

3 months wasted for Chelsea to come in and get it done  laughing stock of the PL.
It's like they have an understanding within the club that in the PL and at the highest level in Europe, games are won and lost in the midfield.

Good addition for them and a very solid group that can rival the best in europe.

Sure but that’s the risk we had to take when we didn’t get CL football. Was always going to be difficult to get this profile of player without CL football unless they bought in to the rebuild. People were hopeful due to the EtH link but it looks like it isn’t going to pan out.

I’ll judge the club at the end of the window and how they react to the end of this saga.

I won’t start creeping around the dregs of oppo fans who are here to take the piss though and rub it in though.

I would fecking love him. I feel he'll not reach his potential at Chelsea. This guys desire is unbelievable, if he was at Liverpool or City he'd would really flourish. As much as I would love him even if we were linked I just couldn't see it happening regardless

A mistake to choose a CL winning manager over an Eredivisie winning manager?
If only football was that simple. I’m referring to style.

Also when he gets here he’ll quickly realise the EPL is a lot bigger than the two leagues he’s played in and the Champs league is only an additional. So he best turn up every week.

Just come on to post the same thing. First time I've heard of any agreement with de Jong's agent. Interesting.

They’re very different midfielders, so no. More likely that Kante or Jorginho‘s position is under threat by De Jong.

Exactly. I don't know the poster is trying to make this between ETH vs Tuchel.

Link it. Which information was out there that gave us concrete data that we could conclude categorically that FDJ was never going to move to Utd? Just give me one link. I'll wait.

Yep we have really hampered EtH by not getting top 4

I imagine our list of targets will have dramatically changed which will have been even more difficult due to the sacking of the two head scouts.

I think this window would be looking a lot different had we secured 4th

Liverpool have put all their eggs in the Bellingham basket for next summer. They've shown in the past that they don't react too much when they have injury problems, they stick to their original plan.

So in 20/21 they had Van Dijk, Gomez and Matip all missing a bunch of games. They always intended on signing Konate for 21/22 so instead of buying another centreback in January all they did was bring in Kabak on loan.

They're not gonna spend all that cash on De Jong and have him as one of their highest earners when they intend on using that cash on Bellingham next year.
