Honestly baffled by people still thinking we’ll sign FDJ.

To answer the question:
- Rabiot
- Gakpo
- some random midfielder we’ve not even been linked with yet

I do but only IF Rabiot isn't seen as an alternative to De Jong of course which I'm still not sure about
I'm pretty sure he is. Otherwise we're looking at benching 4 of Rabiot, De Jong, Eriksen, VDB, Bruno, Fred, Mctominay every week, all while playing Dalot at RB.

Fred & Mctominay shouldn't be in squad with those two, however fear you are right

Rabiot and Morata probably. Don't think it'll be any more than that. Although it depends too on today's game. Hopefully Frenkie, Rabiot, Morata and Dest. I'm not sold on Dest, never really was, but he's better than what we have currently.

Anyone we sign after this will be a panic buy and we will get absolutely fleeced. Whatever player was on the radar before the game, the asking price went up by 15-20M and that's why its ever so crucial to have a squad ready for the start of the season rather than wait till the deadline day.

Unfortunately I don't think either of them have the mentality to turn around this shitshow. Both seem the sort of players that would be good in a team that's playing well, rather than pick up a team that's playing shite.

Please no panic signings. I'm happy to write this season off if it means we're not stuck with additional deadwood that we'll struggle to shift.

If we can get a loan or two in, or a cheap punt on a short term contract, great. Otherwise, start planning for January and next summer.

We've just written a season off, and it's been 2 games...

Personally I am not happy to write a season off on the 13th of August.

Bruno and McFred can all enjoy the bench every week.

We need 4-5 late signings like Arsenal did last year for about 100M or so. Forget Frenkie and get the numbers in. We need fresh people more than anything else

A back up sweeper GK, RB, Rabiot+another CM, Gakpo and a No9 is what we need and what I expect

If we don't strengthen in the GK and RB departement, we are screwed. A would prioritise a goalkeeper over a forward at this point.

No of course not but who will. No player on this planet will be able to turn this team around. But they are technical players. Players that suit his system more than the guys he inherited from Ralf and Ole. The only one that can (or will at least try to) turn this team around is the manager, but that will take time. This team needs rebuilding, one transfer window won't be enough. One pre-season isn't enough to change this lot, if it's even possible, but you need to start somewhere and ETH needs depth too. I think the guys I mentioned that we are currently in for are a good start, although the result today doesn't help one bit in making players want to come here.

Unfortunately, any deals we might try to rush through now in a panic (as usual) will have another 10 or 20 million added to them at least. And those players will want to think long and hard before agreeing to come join our relegation battle.

There is no point buying anyone unless they have been properly assessed and are players who fit into a role on the pitch and improve our play (obvious things to say, but apparently not to our club). We've had ten years of scrabbling around, paying over the odds for signings who have caught they eye but turn out to be flawed, and going on name and reputation rather than usefulness and character. What we have managed to do is get rid of the senior scouts, tear up the short list and bring in a new coach who doesn't know the PL in the shortest closed season in memory. This year is a write-off, and won't be any better if we buy cast-off mediocrity to plug holes.

Small price to pay if they will lead to imrpovement. It is no longer hyperbole to say that this team right now is staring down a season of fighting relegation. First two games have proven that they are not even at mid-table level. So the board needs to do a cost-benefit analysis. Is potentially getting sucked into a relegation battle (and the attendant reputational and financial damage that will come with that) worth it because of a few extra million pounds? If a player ticks every box for what we need but will cost a few million pounds more than normal, you have to pay it.

On the other side of the coin, the club also needs to be proactive in cutting losses on existing players. Just put everyone up for sale and get what you can get even if its a massive loss on what was paid. This is the first step to turning a business or an orgabisation around. Cut underperforming assets even if it will be a big short term hit and focus on investing in performing assets.

Reckon we need 3 mids, 2 wingers, 1 striker, a RB, two CBs and a goalkeeper

Malacia looks alright though.

De Jong
Rabiot
Zaniolo
Dumfries
Morata

4 or 5 players needed IMO, in rough order. Players are examples of the positions we need to strengthen. A striker doesn't make a load of sense to me unless we can offload Ronaldo, or if its purely a young/old backup option for depth.

GK: Lafont
RB: Vanderson
CM/DM: Kouadio Koné
RW: Olise
FW: Thuram

Is probably what I would want us to do, if in all likelihood de Jong doesn't happen.

I hate we haven't been linked to Olise. Would love this, would be a FIFA/FM dream but I think most of those players are too young to make an immediate impact.

Yes, they would all require patience and this scenario in its entirety isn't realistic, but I'd rather take a chance on promising young players that ten Hag could mould, then more stop-gaps that would paper over the cracks. Furthermore I just don't see those proven players that would have an immediate impact that actually would want to play for us.
