Just last year, a civilian woman who used to worked at the US Embassy in Manilla got caught taking home a couple of academic theses labeled "secret" (very low secrecy level) to work on her own classified thesis. She served 3 months in jail.

Imo these are all reasons why DeSantis would lose to Trump. A large part of Trump appeal is down to how stupid and incompetent he is.
So from all this it would seem that Trump will be charged with something surely? I somehow still can't really imagine that it will even impact his chance to run for president again. Seeing the way top GOP'ers react to this, just makes it seem like the country is too far gone to self correct this trajectory of the fake news movement Trump is a culmination of. Can't help but feel the world is on the brinck on some sort of massive actual cultural war between alt right nutcases and normal society.

Well their argument is that the President can declassify whatever he likes by just saying "I hereby declassify this" out loud or something. Not convinced that is going to hold up, you'd imagine there is some sort of formally recognised process that needs to be gone through, not just saying a magic declassifying spell.
Yep there is a number of variables to that. That argument isn’t going to stick.

My guess - this law has never been tested against Presidential privilege. It goes to the Supreme Court who may very well declare it unconstitutional. That presidential power to declassify constitutionally protected in all circumstances etc. We are not dealing with a rational state.
