Of course I'd love us to play some modern football. But as a manager you gotta do what you can with what you have first. Anyway you could notice in the second half we stopped trying to play out from the back. He knew he made a mistake.

Tbh I like ETH and I do want him to make it here. But if he keeps making these mistakes he won't last long here.
I disagree with your first paragraph. If you’re trying to win now, I would very much agree. But we aren’t. Winning today serves no purpose for us. Right now, the ONLY thing that should matter is fundamental change, not making changes to play inferior football to suit our players. And if he does that I’d consider it a bigger failure than sticking to his guns.

Since Mourinho we have been a counter attacking manager. Ole was counter attacking and then Rangnick gave up on pressing after two games when he saw us.

To play attacking possession football we need a different set of players. Having said that i wouldnt be surprized if ETH is sacked before this happens.
The stupidity in changing manager to be a more progressive coach and hardly changing any of the players since then is baffling

He played McFred in first match. Our two de facto DMs. That didn't work. So today he tried one at a time. That didn't work either.

But I agree with you. This is EPL and a top team needs a top CDM. ETH ignored that and here we are.
I didn't say he should play with Scott-Fred (even though that's still better than Fred alone), but he should have tried a 3 defenders combo at least.

I'm not saying this is going to win us the league or even today's game, but I bet it'll look at least more balanced than the clusterfeck that was our formation today.

You can't go one without a defensive midfielder and at the same time with Maguire as your main defender. You just can't.

If I were Arne Slot I'd be a bit miffed at Erik for ruining the rep of Dutch bald coaches. Told you lot you should've hired Arne instead.

Anyone calling for his head at this point deserves every bad result United has coming. More knee jerk reactions while the systemic problems go ignored.

Nice. So relax and calm down. We will get thrashed by Liverpool next week. Don't be part of the journey if you are not patient. It's going to be painful.
I'm perfectly calm. I'm pointing out his mistakes because I think he did. Not because I'm angry about the result. You're the one who should relax and calm down a bit here mate.

For now ETH doesn't inspire confidence. Let me explain why.
1. Signing 5'9" CB to play in PL. Is it a joke? Many people had doubts and for now it looks like they were right (maybe too early, we will see).
2. Forcing players to play out of position. Fred as DM. Ericsen as 9 (first game).
3. Not being strong enough to sit players who are not performing and (check 4 below).
4. Not giving chance to younger players.

Oh well, I hope (I really do) that I'm wrong!

Bet that dossier that Ten Hag gave to Murtough and Fletcher didnt once feature the names Arnautovic or Rabiot. Probably not even Martinez. But we all like Plan C's and D's at this club!!
It contained most likely Nunez, DeJong, Timber, Antony, Malacia and Dumfries. He got Malacia from that list.

He’s not going to do it in his first two games though is he
hindsight is wonderful

he also can’t do anything about de gea letting in a soft goal and Eriksen scuffing a pass
It's not hindsight though, why are you acting like Dalot being shit is something completely unpredictable before the season started ? Forget DDG, I didn't talk about him in that post you quoted.
Dalot being atrocious is the norm

I want him to succeed so badly.

I hope these two games made him humble a bit and learn a lot. Hopefully, the club should move quickly to sign a couple of midfielders (and forwards) soon.

People already thinking Ten Hag should be sacked, and mentioning Pochettino instead

Why don't you list 10 more coaches to come in after since the club will ruin every coach they bring in while these players and these owners are here

Any chance of him being backed and getting in another 5 players in this window? 2 new midfielders Forward, Right Back and a RW.

Hate to say it but someone like Conte wouldn't have been rumbled like this
I don't think its controversial to say that we would be better off in the short term with Conte. The payoff with ten Hag (hopefully) is longevity. This mess is going to take years to sort out.

Said this in the match thread, going to say the same thing here because I cannot be arsed wasting brainpower on this team more than once a day.

Ten Hag is going to be our F de Boer. Winning the Dutch league does not mean you're good enough for the PL. Unless he starts adapting really quick to not having a team head and shoulders above the rest of the league (Ajax) and starts playing that way, the only direction we are heading is down. Ignoring Rangnick, wasting a whole transfer window chasing FdJ, trying to sign his whole Ajax team, calling up his old over-the-hill mate Arnautovic - all red flags hinting that this might just be one step too high for him.

Not forgetting our team is almost completely made up of a bunch of weak wasters but we've all beaten that horse beyond death for the past 5 years now.

He urgently needs two midfielders who can control the centre of the pitch, we need to address how we retain possession and how we play out from the back. Ten hag knows our weaknesses, so did the previous managers but our recruitment department fail every summer to get at least one top quality midfielder. Other top teams dont allow there backline to get exposed as easy as we do, we get played through at ease and until that stops we will keep losing to lesser opponents. Nothing the manager can do until we buy replacements, we have nobody in the squad capable.

The fundamental issue on this forum right now is that too many people are focussing on the wrong things when deciding what those goals are. For me, it should all about how he’s driving change, not results.
Yes and no. Change that isn't given expression through results is pure naivety. Fans talk the talk when it comes to change. A new manager, a modern playing style, new players and even a new board are great measures of change. However, if the totality of all that 'change' leaves us outside the top four or top six, it is not the sort of 'change' that will be tolerated for very long. Football fans what change and assume that the results will follow as a matter of course. That may be the case, but it may not. Ultimately, results are the evidence of 'change'.

The game is already rigged against you when your goal keeper lets in what was basically a fast pass towards the goals. De Gea really has to be on thin ice.

Then Eriksen misplaces a pass. So thats too goals from errors.

I still back Ten Hag but its going to be difficult to watch against Liverpool next week.

Amongst footballing managerial 'Gods'
Should be sacked! Get in Pochettino.
As stated before, the level between the Dutch league and premier league is like night and day. Graham Potter would look like Pep Guardiola if he took over Ajax. ETH should have applied his trade at a smaller club first before taking the United job. If these performances continue ETH will be forgotten like Nuno Santos, Villa Boas, and other hyped hipster managerial chocies.. hopefully, there is a really good manager in there and he can learn from arteta at Arsenal, poch at spurs and psg, klopp at liverpool, ancellotti at real and Everton, and so on and show ways to adapt his game rather than sticking to a philosophy that could be his downfall with this current squad.

Thats why rangnick said we need 10 new players when it was well known ten hag could be the next manager. But he was mocked and derided for saying it.

DDG played a role in Eriksen's mistakes. It's like he had a bet going on or something

The fundamental change? Well that's another subject.

Imo you and some people got a bit too defensive about ETH. If he made mistakes let's say it as it is there's nothing bad about it.

Anyway I hope he can learn from this and stop making those mistakes again. I'll stop here and leave the thread before things got worse. Not in the mood for that.

Forced to play Eriksen in unnatural position. Board f*cked him up rather fast just before the Pool clash.

100% I can’t stand the thought of ETH getting binned because of the mess he didn’t even create

Yeah the transfer window was awful he doesn't have the tools he needs we know this but why is he still playing wastemen like Rashford, Shaw, Bruno stinking the pitch up in both games now. Do something different, we have Garnacho, Malacia, Donny raring to go just sitting on the bench.

At least you know they will actually TRY.

Ten Hag is the last hope imo. I don't think there is anyone in world football who can fix this shit.

The club is truly beyond repair now. The Glazers have gone and done it. They finally killed the club. Fecking rat faced leeches.
