I tried that game out a couple of years ago and couldn't really get into it either. I didn't get far but the level design just didn't do it for me. I'm reluctant to give it another chance as there are simply better games in the genre that I haven't tried yet.
Level design, enemy placement and bosses were poor IMO.

On another note, I played and finished Death's Door over the last couple of days. It's a nice enough game with a striking art style, good soundtrack and satisfying combat, but I couldn't help being slightly underwhelmed after all the praise it received. The sense of mystery and exploration feels a bit lacking compared to something like Tunic. And I can't say I'm a big fan of a metroidvania without any sort of in-game map, due to the amount of backtracking that's required. I know there are certain older classics in the genre that didn't have a map either, but that doesn't mean it's a good thing. The post-game seems to be even more backtracking, so I'm just going to leave it there.
To be honest I absolutely loved Death's Door. It's not got the deepest combat or exploration, but for me the game hit this lovely sweetspot of being both calming / soothing and deep enough to keep me hooked. Plus I'm a sucker for games with great music and I really did dig its soundtrack.

Was walking by one of those shops that have a bit of everything like a cash converters. Then I saw it and there’s no way in hell I could leave it there since it’s the only one left so I had to buy it. I’m shocked I didn’t own one beforehand.

I dusted off my PS2 and for some reason, I do not have a ps2 controller. So I looked up online and there’s a converter that can sync up with PS5 controllers so now I can use that! Delighted with it. No more wired controllers

Playing Death Stranding Directors Cut and Metro Exodus on the PS5 to experience them on next gen hardware (played both on ps4). Both look stunning - Metro Exodus in particular is incredible crisp and atmospheric. Base PS4 didn't do justice to the work the developers put in.

Also been giving Wolfenstein New Order a go here and there. It's a really fun game and holds up well 7/8 years later.

Just bought Crusader Kings 3, since it's been out for a while and Paradox games are always best with some DLC. Been so long I played 2 that I probably have to do some reading on how it works again. Anyone played it? Is it as good as 2?

Finished Stray. Very short but enjoyable. Not really a trophy hunter but seems like the platinum is very easy to achieve.

Going to start Detroit: Become Human next.

There is one very annoying trophy in stray apart from that it’s easy

Such a shame the Fight Night franchise is dead.

Most satisfying fighting game I ever played. The right stick being used for punches was such a simple but brilliant mechanic.

The grandfather of survival horror is making a comeback. It‘s come full circle too as the original heavily inspired Resident Evil both in gameplay mechanics and even story (set in a mansion, choice of male or female playable character, solve puzzles to progress, ability to avoid combat with ingenuity, read documents to gain clues and learn lore) and now Alone in the Dark is inspired by the recent RE remakes.

I hope they keep the Lovecraftian horror element in it. Don’t encroach on RE’s B-Movie schlock premise, be true to the original game roots and you’ll be a legit good horror game.

Don’t despair. I read they are going to revive it after the next UFC game. In the meantime, have you played UFC4? If not, try it. I’m a long time fight night fan and UFC4 is really good, if not quite as enjoyable as FN.

That’s great news, I loved the OG Alone in the dark. I’ll keep tabs on this one.

Turns out someone used my activision account to use hacks on COD now I've been permanently banned, couldn't even win an appeal ffs. I reckon it must have been a really old password which appeared in a data breach somewhere and someone tried their luck. Used my PS account for COD since 2007 now permanently banned

Is that the zurks chase at the very start before you meet B12?

I got that one on my third attempt on chapter select. Key thing was to run in a zig-zag rather than straight which I was doing on my first two attempts.

Really enjoyed Stray. I understand those wanting a deeper gameplay experience but I think it's focus is more on intrigue, world building, exploration and melding visuals with a strong soundtrack. And on all those levels, it worked with me. As for game length, I'm preferring shorter games these days or at least wishing a lot of games I'm playing weren't as long. Having said that, it can do with a sequel to tie in a few loose threads or elevate the narrative further.

Aldo had a lot of fun with Wolfenstein New Order. The moment to moment gameplay was fantastic. It lost me towards the end but glad I played it.

I started this last week and am probably halfway through. All I can say is wow. I'm captivated and riveted like no other game I can ever recall. It's very much a cinematic experience. A couple minor cheesy parts but overall I'm just blown away by every aspect. Visually it's incredible and I'm almost scared to see how things will look in a few years time.

I’m going through a Star Wars phase at the moment. Finished Jedi Fallen Order and now I’ve picked up KOTOR again.

I need a decent multiplayer game to get into.

I’m also enjoying it in the short time I’ve had playing it. Intrigued to see how all 3 characters’ (Connor, Kara, Markus) stories develop along the way. There’s a few other games that are similar to this in terms of you decide how the story develops like Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls, Until Dawn (might play this next), The Quarry.

Is that any good? Quite tempted to pick that up at some point before the sequel is released.

Cnut of a game has had its hooks in me for months.

I started Yakuza Zero yesterday and BOY™ there's a lot of talking. Seems fun though
It's a brilliant game.

Yakuza games have their formula and 0 is no different. So there's Yakuza game "stuff" (as with any game) that will turn off some. But 0 is one of the better games of the PS4 era.

Somehow only just noticed that Metro Exodus was coming to the PS Extra tier. Nearly bought it a few weeks ago. Apparently, the next-gen upgrade is supposed to be superb.

Yeah I had a lot of fun with it. It's not easy if you're playing on a higher difficulty either. Some of the later bosses are nasty.

I don't know if I can be bothered with that but I have heard they've done a lot with it.
Og battlefront 2(2005) is pretty dope.
Oh yeah never played that. I have the newer one which has it's moments.

I'm playing it for the second time, this time with the Ps5 upgrade. It's a real visual spectacle and the dual sense / adaptive triggers adds a lot to what was already an excellent game.

Awesome - that's good to hear. Nice to hear about the triggers as well, as I think it's often forgotten about when it comes to next-gen upgrades. Which I guess is understandable. I'm downloading it now.

Yeah the new one has it's moments but well you know, ea and all that.

Shame how they seemingly killed the franchise.

Just been hammering Final Fantasy 9 i could play the ps1 era Final Fantasy's forever i love these games especially with the later versions having the super speed mode for grinding gear level etc.

On the third disc currently (i think) just watched alexandria turn into the summon.

Once finished think i'll be going back and redo FF8, i tried the highest tier of PSN plus and spent it just playing PS1 games.

Nice. I still think the best thing about these subscription services is going back to old games.

Started Observer System Redux. It's a really interesting one for anyone who enjoys the cyberpunk theme and games with a bit of intrigue (but doesn't mind the whole visual / audio spectacle and light on gameplay games). So far so good

I just got an email saying that I have reached the front of the queue for a steamdeck.

After ages on the waiting list how does this turn up the same day I had to pay for repairs to my car before MOT? You have to pay within 2 days so that's just terrible luck

Finished the 2 Spiderman games on the PS5. Feel like i would have been fairly positive about them if it wasn't for the unskippable cutscenes. Cant even claim its some weird limitation of their engine as a bunch of them are skippable. It just seems it was a concious decision to force me to sit though their dogshit writing every 5 minutes. Game is absolutely riddled with them. Every character is braindead stupid, making the most illogical, contrived decisions with bad acting and a lame, cliched, bolox storyline. I really can't overstate how much i hated every second of every cutscene. The first game deserves a couple points knocked of its score just for the shit stealth sections too.
The actual gameplay when swinging around the city is decent, the best spiderman game since the 2nd on the ps2. Its just ruined by a terrible storyline delivered in the most amateurish, weak manner imaginable.

I used to love that game. I thought I was so good at it because I used to beat my mates all the time...

Then I went online and got my ass have to me and realized I'm Audley Harrison

I used to love this, especially The New Nightmare. Amazing. Would love to play it but doubt it'll come out on Switch :(

  • Observer system redux was really good. The cyberpunk setting was well fleshed out and from an audio visual standpoint the game is quite an experience. I was absolutely hooked throughout. Just wish I had done all the side quests as you can't go back to them.
  • Deliver us the moon has started well but it's a mild experience - nowhere near as good as Observer.
  • Gone back to playing Hotline Miami for some short bursts of fun. And I forgot how good it was. I think it probably does adrenaline pumping gameplay even better than Doom.
