Absolutely shocked to look at the highlights and see that. He goes for Anderson twice and the last butt is full on in the face.

It’s a clear assault and I fully expect the FA will hand out a hefty ban.

Reminded me of this

Ferguson got a 12 match ban and was imprisoned for 3 months.

Bottled playing Martinez. Doesn't fit in with the mentality monsters.

Should be a minimum 6 match ban, and that will be him getting off easy.

No doubt Liverpool will appeal it though and get some T-shirts made in the same way they defended a certain other racist cannibal Uruguayan.

He’ll get 3 matches and nothing more will be said about it. I can’t believe more fuss isn’t being made about it.

T-shirts for the racist - seances to bring VVD back from the dead.

There'd probably be some sort of live aid style concert if he was sent to jail.

Free the Anfield one....

Dont think they should, they'll be better off without him

If he did that to Martinez he would have got away with it due to no contact made.

Is it always a 3 match ban for violent conduct or is there a higher ceiling for it?
3 matches is the minimum but they can increase it if the incident warrants a bigger ban

I reckon it will be three only

What a fecking idiot that guy is. Why? Just why? No matter how slight the contact, the other guy is falling over to get you sent off. We see it all the time. Stupid footballers trying to act tough.

Remember when Martial was sent off for tickling Lamela’s chin? And apparently that is the equivalent of this full on nosebuster. If his ban isn’t extended there is a full on agenda at play here.

Can this be appealed? Would be just like Klopp to appeal it so his player can play against us.

It was one of the few times when a headbutt was actually a headbutt and not some head vs head stroking.

Think he’ll get a 4 match ban… enough to make FA appear to be taking it seriously without Klopp hitting the roof.

Some press excerpts on the incident...

Trouble had been brewing between the pair for some time and when the defender shoved Núñez in the back following an argument the striker stupidly took the bait - The Guardian
Expensive striker Nunez had been desperate to make an impact in front of The Kop, but was deservedly shown a red card by referee Paul Tierney after 57 minutes when he reacted to a shove from Joachim Andersen with a headbutt that floored the Palace defender - BBC
There had been some niggle between the players prior to the incident. Nunez seemed to take objection to Andersen falling under a challenge in the first half - Daily Mail
There were a couple of shoves from the centre-back Andersen and a bit of non-committal head-to-head before Nunez jabbed in with his face and gave referee Paul Tierney an easy decision to make. What was the Uruguayan thinking? The assumption may be that he expected just a little more of the gentle butting and then stuck his forehead in much harder than he anticipated - The Telegraph.

Henry Winter….

”down to 10 but now level through Luis Diaz. Fabulous strike. Great response. Nunez and Andersen having a bit of a duel, occasionally physical, arguing. Andersen then pushed Nunez who responded with a headbutt.”
He writes as if it was Andersen's fault...

Can’t see it being more than the 3 match van. Ridiculously stupid from Núñez though

Interesting that he was handed a prison sentence.

I wonder why more players don’t press charges against bad challenges or tackles. Imagine your career gets derailed from a bad challenge and the other guy just gets a few match ban. I’d be suing the opponent, the refs, the oppositon, the fa for failing to protect my body etc for and for potentially missed career earnings in the future.

Is there stipulations in the contracts that prevent suing?

Looks like Anderson was sparked out or very dazed the way he fell, at least Nunez actually went for it rather than the usual eskimo kiss players tend to do.

I wonder which defenders will be brave enough to get in his face and antagonise him and which will think best keep a safe distance

With this alongside his social media response to folk insulting him, he's shown that he's got a very thin skin. Oppo defenders will do all they can to wind him up knowing there's a high chance he'll take the bait.

Imagine if Liverpool have to play Atletico this season. I'd actually watch that match*.

*Will be one of the only CL matches I'll watch this season ffs
