Is it 70m GBP? Even if they include add-ons 70M EUR is 60M GBP right?
Depends on who you choose to believe I guess. Romano is reporting as €60m+10m add-ons. Spanish outlets are reporting closer to €80m. BBC conveniently converted everything to £70m.

In isolation, I'm happy with this signing. Very good player who addresses an obvious need in our team.

The context around the transfer, I strongly dislike and think carries a lot of red flags we're all too familiar with. But that's more an issue that impacts our prospects as a team rather than how Casemiro might do as an individual.

Good signing even if we paid too much. Hopefully he doesn't catch the Varane curse and his legs continue to hold up for 3-4 seasons.

Knowing our luck though he'll start to regress the second he puts on a shirt for us.

Exciting signing but we all know the window is still a huge fail if he’s the last signing

Needs to be the first of 3 world class signings

The funny thing about this move is that for some reason Bouhafsi, Romano and Ornstein got involved around the same time. Who was the source?

Looked great in a fairly deep lying Madrid team but has he (still) got the athleticism to do the same in a higher line at a much quicker pace surrounded by shite players? I genuinely think he might struggle. And the fee and length of contract are just bonkers.

comfortable and settled in my rut
Athletic reporting up to £70m and £375k per week. Wow. That is huge money for 4 years!

Has there ever been a player over 30 play his entire career in another league and then come to the PL and do well? As good a player as he has been, this is going to be tough in this Utd team.
Ibra. Henrik. And that’s just in the geriatric Swedish strikers who played for us category.

Chelsea have Thiago Silva doing well at the moment.

Makelele. Edwin. Cambiasso.

Any good player will struggle around shite players. He will struggle. But I guess the last big contract is too good to resist.

Makélélé and Thiago Silva. There are likely others.

The club bought the best DM in football in less time than it took for my sneakers to arrive in the mail. Well done

With Casemiro and another midfielder, i hope EtH can bed in Iqbal and Ganarcho in the team slowly. I don’t think we’ll need to look for a market for McT, Ronaldo and Rashford because one will be playing for Rangers or Celtic very soon, Rashford will go to Everton or Blackwell to sell books and Ronaldo will find any team that is desperate for a bit of star dust

Drugged again, but feel like speaking my mind on this even if it might be a bit dumb.
Honestly speaking, i think is the sort of moves that have been bad for the club in the past.

We've had first choice, expensive options that are relatively young (Frenkie), we don't get them and go for a different type of player for a lot of cash that is older and often times not as good or a very different type of player to what managers initially are looking for (Casemiro).

In this case I'd say there is nothing wrong in buying Casemiro, especially as he is a great player and Frenkie does not want to come... But later down the line when he needs replacing and we say the manager has not been backed properly because he cannot fill all the holes in the squad and people just look at cost of transfers to argue he has had plenty, this is the sort of transfer thar creates massive disagreements.

Again, it does not really apply here, but it is an annoyance for me when fans talk about a manager being backed well or not.

He's a captain, he's familiar with Varane and Fred, he seems like a decent bloke who can be a cnut on the pitch when he needs to be, and he's an actual defensive midfielder who is still a first team choice for Real fecking Madrid. Unless he's secretly hiding some horrible injury in his cheeks I'm not sure how he could be a bad signing.

Sure, he's not a long term ten year plan player for us but DMs don't just decide to fall apart when they hit 30. He's arguably the best DM in the world and our rivals have players in his position at a similar age or even older, still delivering top performances.

Guys, Real Madrid fan here. You got a great player, please take care of him. He is a beast, he will die on the pitch, and I think he is exactly what you needed. Can't get mad at him, he won everything for us, and if he wants to try something else, great. All in all, I'm glad he comes to you guys, I know you appreciate a quality player and a person above all.
PS. Now pick yourself together, and see you in CL next season.

It's a piss poor financial deal, absolutely horrendous for a player of that age. I also don't like the way we've gone about it once again, it gives the strong impression it hasn't really been thought out, we're just throwing a good player at a problem and hoping it works rather than an overarching plan that was formed at the inception of the market.

However, he's still obviously a top player and should be for at least a couple of years. If he can perform to his current level, which is a big if in this side, we should improve and start giving ourselves a platform in matches. Which will be important because the defence are shot to pieces at the moment.

Are we signing a 45 year old? That's the sense I get from reading this thread.

Great signing! Will be interesting to know the details of this one someday. Maybe it wasn’t out of the blue, maybe we actually kept it quiet during the whole summer.. I find it difficult to believe it happened so fast after making the headlines. Never the less, welcome Casemiro!

Shocking transfer, committing nigh on 150m quid for a guy who's just turned 30 and isn't really someone who'll singlehandedly make us top 4 challengers is such short sighted business. Worse still is everyone lapping it up like we've just pulled some sort of masterstroke. We've paid more than City did for a 23 year old Rodri and covered what Madrid paid up front for Tchouameni :lol:

In the grand scheme of things United is in this situation becuase of poor planning and ETH is also at fault for this, so it's everyone in the management that caused this situation. It's not ideal and this has written 'panic buy' all over the place but in the inmediate future it still seems like a better plan than not sign anyone and go with the current midfield into the season.
