I don't think faking interest in another player works when the selling club would rather keep the player than sell him for a record fee
But that's literally the point. It would call their bluff. Of course if they still won't sell then that's respectable - but they could always be trying to get even more money.

Fergie would have loved you, the never take a risk approach.....
Ah yes, Alex Ferguson and his classic risk free approach of selling 3 of his best players who'd helped us to 2 titles in 3 years in 1995 and signing nobody.

What I get from all of this is that Ajax doesn’t want to let Antony go, and we are threatening to start pursuing their direct rival’s winger instead. In that case they get to keep Antony and their rivals lose a valuable player.

This tactic only really works if the selling club wants to sell.

Trouble with that clever tactic is that our primary target desperately wants to leave.

"Agency sources have suggested interest in PSV winger Cody Gakpo has been whipped up in an attempt to pressure Ajax into relenting over Antony. [@samuelluckhurst] #MUFC"

We get to keep Antony and United will buy our main rivals best player instead?

Oh no the horror, the horror. Keep up the pressure please.

This will get done.
Antony will be livid if they turned down that much money. No club is ever paying close to that amount.

Players join Ajax on the condition that if a decent offer comes they'll be allowed to leave, not we'll allow you to leave if we have a decent alternative lined up and its not too late in the window and good money is on offer.

That’s a lil…..dare I say it…..Racist
Why do people try to find offence when clearly none is intended…the guy looks like a member of a gang in the sense that it is very common for persons in gangs to have tattoos and dress a certain way. Same way I look like a boring fuking accountant but I’m not. For example…one of these images below is Antony and his agent…the other is Spadino and Aurelliano from amazing mafia based series Suburra. Let’s not make issues where there are none.

Question to Ajax supporters: is there anyone other than Ziyech being touted as a replacement? Is it him or bust?

For the Ajax fans who see Antony regularly. What aspect of his game frustrates you, could be technical, physical, tactical or maybe attitude flaw.
@AjaxCunian

Where would he need to take big steps to become an elite wideman.
Becoming more efficient. It's nice he put on a show, but he's not the guy that scores 20 goals in a season. So like Neymar, don't try to dick around like how he did at Santos.

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"
- He is complete cnut on the field. Tends do dive quite a lot which wont go well in PL. Typically the type of player opponents love to hate.
- He could have picked up a few red cards with his behaviour
- He can be invisible in certain games but tends to shine in big games
- He is a showman but the stuff he does has a function. He often controls long balls with his right foot from behind (look spectacular and cokcy) but it's effective as the bal is on left foot after he controls it. He must have done this 15 times last year and it never failed
- He can obviously work on his goals and assists.
- He has a great pass though but 100% lefty.
- He is not selfish and has a really good eye for his team mates. At Ajax mazraoui would come in or outside all the time (like really all the time) and they had a great connection. The lack of a quality attacking right back might hurt a lot
- When he arrived at Ajax there was Neres who was his buddy. Ajax also has a former Brasilian Ajax player who works at the club to help them settle etc. Ajax even had a song made by some local rappers to welcome him (was even a small spotify hit). I don't know how Man Utd deals with this. If he is just dropped of in front of a hotel and told to arrive at 0800 at the club while the press is stalking him it might be difficult to feel at home. Don't forget he is just a 22y old kid from a favela who is undergoing one of the biggest transfer sagas of the season

I think the biggest question is if he can step up to PL levels and be consistent. I have serious doubts if he is coming in at this fee, with this pressure in a non- functioning team/ club. Pressure compared to Ajax is x100. Ajax is in an upbeat vibe with a lot of easy wins. When (Ok, ok, if) we beat Liverpool this CL campaign it's party time and we play some midgets the weekend after. At Man Utd you play Chelsea on Wednesday, Arsenal on Sunday and it's a semi rest day when you play RB Salzburg for the UEFA cup. If he doesnt perform for 2 games therer are 8 pundits and 10 tabloids who love to write him down..
Read the first few lines and thought he’d run over your cat or something… balanced a bit after that thankfully.

And what’s this “non - functioning team club” malarkey :nono: The last few years or so was just a blip, all golden again now.

What about Amad? We could sell him to you as cash+player exchange for Antony
I think Amad would shine in the Erdevisie. Would be a great loan move for him. Ajax probably want someone more ready to just step in to the first team though.

Should think a famed institution for developing their own youth have absolutely zero interest in bestowing their coaching on another clubs' talent.

I’m surprised at the negligence from Ajax in not knowing what to do without Antony.

He’s wanted to leave since the start of the window. It’s not a big surprise. Thought they were well run?!

Ajax are absolute fools if they are refusing that sort of money for an unproven 22 year old player.

Nah not really…they did something similar with Ihattaren from Juventus and only last year they loaned Brobbey back from RB before buying him. Not sure what makes you think they wouldn’t be interested in Amad in that context. My concern was based around them needing a first team replacement for their star player…which I think would be their greater concern.

This deal is almost done. Talk about Gakpo is rubbish - we have enough left wingers.

Brobbey is self-interest, does the same apply to Ihattaren (I don't know)?

I know where you're coming from and it potentially being a beneficial temporary stop gap for them, but ultimately, does it take precedence over get their own player in? I'm doubtful.

I'd like it to happen, as it benefits us twice over, but I don't see them going for it.

Not sure if this was already known, but it looks like the Eredivisie Transfer Window ends on the 31st August. This is one day before the window closes for the Premier League, at 11pm on Thursday 1st September.

I guess this means that Ajax will really need to do something quickly in terms of getting a replacement if they do let Ajax go. That's tight. I seriously can't see them leaving this amount of money on the table.

I'm sure this sounded better in your head.
I see I stepped on a lot of peoples toes here. Sorry for that. Let's start off saying that the comment has nothing to do with race. It was about the tattoos crawling up the neck of a guy in his early 20's and stereotypes associated with that. Maybe I'm oldfashioned and too old (I'm not that old though, but we can't all B20) to understand it, the ideals has clearly changed the last 25 years (when I was his age). Everyone is free to choose their style and appearance all they want, I don't think less of people looking different than me or having different taste than me. That's all cool, but your choice of style/appearance will affect the impression you make on other people and make people put you in different stereotype boxes without knowing the faintest little thing about you. Going for permanent bodyart in your face and neck before your grownup life has really started will make people think this and that...
I did not mean to offend anyone, but I can see that I have, so I'll think twice before I post anything like this again. Sorry!

Back to Antony, the footballplayer: I think he is far from a safe bet at the prices quoted in media and by pundits.

Sounds like a them problem to be honest. Anyone that makes such assumptions about tattoos in 2022 is probably living under a rock.

If they don't want to sell i look for a loan option and then try again for him next year.
