And what? Spend loads of money to have elections every four years for a position that has no power? Spend loads of money on a referendum on removing the monarchy? Then, after all that, ending up with William as King/Head-of-State because he is the most popular option. Just seems a completely stupid idea. No money will be saved with removing the monarchy, either, as the vast majority is spent on staff and maintenance for the properties.
The majority of the world's population views the monarchy and everyone associated with it, past and present, as murderers and colonisers.

You'd think there would be a semblance of guilt and national embarrassment after ravaging the better part of the world for 250 years.

I suppose the sentiment is for a nation in the 21st century to wake up finally now that the last relic of their past is gone.
There are many relics of the past like inheritance. I propose no one should inherit anything from their parents, it should all go to the govt.

Whats this feudal concept of inheritance ? Get rid.

Yeah acting as if she was a virtuous person is probably more offensive to more people than saying something like good riddance.

Yes I can hear you Clem Fandango!
Die hard republicans don't care of her apolitical behavior that it only served their own survival ( As someone would accept the royals meddling in politics)

Die hard republicans care, among other things, that no one should have the birth right to be in a government institution symbolic power place and have the right over money through taxes, nobiliary titles, corruption, impunity and live on properties plundered along the centuries. It doesn't make sense
I want a British republic, but you have to admit her personal popularity meant that most felt unable to criticise her. Anyway, it is likely the other realms where Charles is Head of State will move to republics over the coming years.

Governments had the power during Empire and colonisation - governments today have immense power, and create suffering in a lot of countries around the world today. Do we get rid of the government? Not really seeing the difference aside from the royal family has no power and the government still does.

These vile and crass statements must surely be breaking forum rules? How disappointing.

If people can't be respectful they should just post nothing - says a lot about them though.
Agreed, calling the ruler of a monarchy responsible for so much wrong one of the greatest people ever is very vile and crass.

This place is just out of reality. Got people who were arguing with me when i posted this is a momentous moment in our lifetimes.
A momentous moment is something that changes your life or that of the country. I don't think this applies in the passing of the monarch who will be succeeded by another.

Elizabeth has been better than all of the clowns that you twats have have managed to elect via democracy in half a century.

Quite telling of the state of democracy, like handing monkeys live grenades.

Who will bite ?

Calm down, lad. You're massively over reacting. People joke about death all the time and there isn't uproar about it, it's actually considered a coping mechanism sometimes. The only thing that separates this from any other time is that you like her, that's all.

Why do people act like their elected representatives in Parliament had no significant hand in the acquiring and plunder and maintenance of Empire, and it all falls on the monarchy? (Not you just a general point)
Um what.

Imagine being outraged that people on a football forum are taking the piss about the hysteria around the death of the Queen.

New PM and Monarch in the same week. If the rule of three's apply, then what do we need to expect before the end of the week.
New Funniest Poster? Someone better get to @rimaldo's house and hide his supply of cheese crackers and bleach.

But what will change? Someone else will do the speeches but nothing will change really. When our queen abdicated the throne and our current king became the king, the only thing that really changed is that queensday became kingsday and is on a different day now.

The government is elected by people and constantly changes. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. The monarchy is dumb as you are just born into it, as if this random group of pedos and racists are supposedly more important people than anyone else. The whole concept of it is archaic as if there is a hierarchy among people - which there isn't. They provide nothing but get to live their life with riches because they get given taxes from people who don't want to. It's nonsense and crazy that it exists in 1st world countries in the 21st century.

Not going to pretend I care about the royal family, because I don't, but seeing Lizz Truss make a speech about the Queen after being so outspokenly against her was odd. I half expected her to just come out with "ding dong the witch is dead".

Sad an old lady has died and a shame she didn't get the record, but I wonder how much has been swept under the carpet during her reign? Andrew, Diana, what else? She did well for the UK but I think it's time to end the lot now she's gone.

She's passed away a day too soon, her funeral will be on Sunday (10th day) so we don't get a day off work, bollocks.

RIP though
