Not going to pretend I care about the royal family, because I don't, but seeing Lizz Truss make a speech about the Queen after being so outspokenly against her was odd. I half expected her to just come out with "ding dong the witch is dead".
Was it odd? Or was it exactly what you’d expect?

Please, this cannot be allowed here. For gods sake someone has passed away, this is not right mods. I know this poster has a longstanding history here, but this is not right. I can't be the only one that thinks this?

Why do people act like their elected representatives in Parliament had no significant hand in the acquiring and plunder and maintenance of Empire, and it all falls on the monarchy? (Not you just a general point)
I'll have to ask my grandmothers if they remember any different but I don't believe they let us have a parliament in any meaningful sense. But they did preside over 24 major famines in less than 50 years, resulting in 15 million deaths while a few people very far away got very rich.

Anyway, RIP. I'm not going to pretend I'm not a bit moved by this.

EDIT: Or was that aimed at the British posters?

Does the monarch have any power in England? Can she change taxes (monarchs love taxes) or just come up with any laws? Or is it like our king that the position is basically a very well paid mascot job with major work benefits?

makes life easy. i’m already doing that in anticipation of the sideboard she has in hallway.

My girlfriends sisters completely seriously asked my girlfriend if they should get me a gift.
i hope you told her that in this scenario it’s customary for all non commonwealthers purchase a gift for a commonwealther and its value should not be less than £1 per year of her being on the throne.

Being a Tory MP at the moment.
not whilst i’ve still got a shred of dignity and decency.
