According to the bookies:
5:1 Brasil (EUR 5 return for a EUR 1 bet)
7:1 France, Argentina
8:1 England
9:1 Spain
11:1 Germany
13:1 Netherlands, Belgium
15:1 Portugal
I don't think England will even get out the group, we're feckin dreadful.

It is time for Brasil or Argentina to win it. There is always a possibility for a surprise.

Think people are overrating Argentina. Then again, their defence is going to very solid.

France are still favorites for me, they've done it quite recently and I feel they can do it in different ways. Obviously Brazil are also favorites too. However I think people are far too low on Germany. They have a great coach, they have good midfield options in Gundogan, Kimmich and Goretzka. Muller is still in the side. Musiala is coming into his own. They also have Sane and Gnabry too. That's a lot of creativity for international football and not something to sneeze at. If they come to the tournament looking more solid at the back, they have a real chance.

Maybe it's because this is a weird world cup in every single way, but I think we will see a surprising winner. A nation that hasn't won the world cup before.

Germany issue they don't really have much options for a deadly striker.

France would've had a chance of they didn't have so many injuries. They really need at least one of Pogba or Kante to be fit.

Portugal would've had a chance if they didn't have Santos in charge. Their midfield depth is probably even better than France's, and they could potentially field a front 3 of Leao - Felix - Jota but Santos chooses not too (and now Jota's injured).

So it's likely Brazil given that the rest of Europe is quite weak. Argentina and Germany have teams that if it gels could do win.

Last chance for Messi to get one over Maradona, old people (boomers) always feel Maradona is better than Messi no matter what he have achieved.
GrandPas say Pele or Eusebio
Dads say Maradona or Platini
we now say Messi or Ronaldo.

Would prefer a new winner. It’s such a boring closed shop. Hoping our key players don’t get fatigued/injured. The club season is going to be massively affected by what happens in Qatar.

I prefer Netherlands. hopefully they can shake off the tag of greatest "loser" but their squad is not as talented as it used to be.

Hopefully the Netherlands ? The greatest "loser" ever ?
That's a good shout. I keep forgetting that they've never won it despite arguably being a classic powerhouse.

I also have a feeling that an African or Asian nation will do really well this time.

1.Brazil, 2.Argentina and 3.Germany

Brazil has more depth. Scaloni seems to have found a competitive team in Argentina. Messi looks fine

Germany have Bayern's midfield and attack (kimmich, goretzka, muller, musiala, gnabry) minus mane (they can put Havertz in there). Chemistry.

France a little behind because of injuries (kante, pogba). They have other players, but they''ll have to set up a new midfield.

I will shave skin head if Portugal wins world cup.

Who is their center forward ? surely not Ronaldo ?
They do have an outside chance, not as much as Germany France etc but probably the 4-5th best squad. For one even without a striker they can play 2-3 attackers, CR7 may also regain form for one last hurray just in time for their “pass the ball to CR7” tactic.
Prepare your razor, you have a 10% chance of shaving it bald

Portugal have an excellent squad we've seen out of form teams do well before. I think Brazil have the best team and would gladly see them win it. Holland are flying also.

Would say Brazil and Argentina are the favourites, other than them the European teams have been very inconsistent to claim any to be a favourite.
Exactly.
None of the European teams looks up for it this time. With France it seems that they are going to have some drama, Spain lack a striker, England are in poor form, Germany haven't been great recently, Portugal- Ron is finished but he'll play

In the incredibly unlikely event that Wales and Kieffer Moore, Ballon d'Or don't blow everybody else away... got to be rooting for one of Brazil or Argentina.

Unless Argentina end up starting fecking Otamendi over Martinez, in which case, feck 'em.

In terms of squad strength/depth:

1. Brazil (Neymar, Vinicius Jnr, Jesus, Casemiro, Firmino, Rodrygo, Raphina, Antony, Fabinho, Marquinhos, Silva, Militao, Ederson, Alisson)
2. France (Mbappe, Benzema, Nkunku, Tchouameni, Camavinga, Pavard, Kounde, Upamecano, Coman, Martial)
3. England (Kane, Foden, Sterling, Saka, Grealish, Rice, Bellingham, James, TAA, Stones, Walker, Mount, Rashford)
4. Portugal (Ronaldo, Bruno, Silva, Cancelo, Leao, Dias, Felix, Neves, Mendes, Nunes, Sanchez)
5. Argentina (Messi, Dybala, Martinez, Alvarez, Di Maria, Martinez, Otamendi, Acuna)
6. Spain (Busquets, Pedri, Gavi, Rodri, Morata, Alba, Carvajal, Torres, Laporte, Thiago)
7. Germany (Kimmich, Havertz, Gundogan, Gnabry, Muller, Sane, Goretzka, Rodger, Neuer)
8. Netherland (VVD, De Jong, De Ligt, Gravenberch, Timber, Ake, Depay)

In terms of chance of winning:

Brazil > France > Argentina > Spain > Portugal > England > Netherland > Germany

My money is on Brazil winning it. They clearly have better squad depth than anyone else, especially with all their key players in good form.

France used to be the favourite, but with Kante, Pogba, Varane out injured, their chance of winning is significantly reduced. But with Mbappe, Benzema, Nkunku, Tchousmeni all on good form, you can't really count them out on winning it.

Argentina doesn't have the best squad depth on paper, but they do have one of the best team play in the tournament, beating Brazil in last Copa. Plus Messi seems to be in fine form this season too.

Portugal is also good on paper, but with their key players in poor form (Ronaldo, Bruno), plus recent injuries to Jota, I don't see them having any chance winning it.

England has a bad manager, hence we won't win it, even though on paper we do have the squad depth to compete with the best.

Just don't see Spain, Netherland, Germany winning it either. They are lacking something on their front line.
You’ve named all of those English players and they’re all great. But a maximum of 6 will play. Because our coach is shit.

Most of the other sides you’ve listed are picking most of their best players.

I’d have Brazil and Argentina as joint favourites. France next. Germany shortly after. Because Germany.

'Because Germany' can never be discounted. That 2002 team that got to the final had absolutely no business being anywhere near it if they were wearing any other shirt.

Very few people have Maradona above Messi.

Maradona existed in a period where football was romantic and a single player could truly run a whole game, and arguably a whole season. Maradona’s Napoli achievements will be unique forever. It was like Vardy at Leicester but on steroids. His WC win in 86 was as good a tournament performance as you’ll ever see.

It’s unfair to expect Messi to achieve the same. He’s clearly a better player. But I’d rather have been a Napoli fan in 1990 than a Barca fan, in any Messi year.

People said this in the last two tournaments and then they went out against South Korea and England.

Adidas should run a campaign that just reads ‘Because die Mannshaft’

Yeah, but now they've got a manager who presumably isn't quite as distracted by the smell of his own taint.

Wouldn’t rule out Spain getting to the final, teams packed with world class players and it’s almost impossible to get the ball off them.
No chance of England getting anywhere near far. Southgate’s tactics are overly cautious and we have major problems playing 3 at the back with the current available defenders.
