I always look at the Brazil squad and think they'll win yet it's been European winners in the past 4 editions. By this logic I'm opting for Argentina.

It is time for Brasil or Argentina to win it. There is always a possibility for a surprise.
Last chance for Messi to get one over Maradona, old people (boomers) always feel Maradona is better than Messi no matter what he have achieved.

Think people are overrating Argentina. Then again, their defence is going to very solid.
France are still favorites for me, they've done it quite recently and I feel they can do it in different ways. Obviously Brazil are also favorites too. However I think people are far too low on Germany. They have a great coach, they have good midfield options in Gundogan, Kimmich and Goretzka. Muller is still in the side. Musiala is coming into his own. They also have Sane and Gnabry too. That's a lot of creativity for international football and not something to sneeze at. If they come to the tournament looking more solid at the back, they have a real chance.

Maybe it's because this is a weird world cup in every single way, but I think we will see a surprising winner. A nation that hasn't won the world cup before.

Portugal would've had a chance if they didn't have Santos in charge. Their midfield depth is probably even better than France's, and they could potentially field a front 3 of Leao - Felix - Jota but Santos chooses not too (and now Jota's injured).

Probably Ronaldo. If not him then Andre Silva, Goncalo Ramos, or Joao Felix.
And lack of good winger apart from Sane. Gnabry has been woeful since 2020.

Would prefer a new winner. It’s such a boring closed shop. Hoping our key players don’t get fatigued/injured. The club season is going to be massively affected by what happens in Qatar.

I prefer Netherlands. hopefully they can shake off the tag of greatest "loser" but their squad is not as talented as it used to be.
That's a good shout. I keep forgetting that they've never won it despite arguably being a classic powerhouse.
I also have a feeling that an African or Asian nation will do really well this time.

They do have an outside chance, not as much as Germany France etc but probably the 4-5th best squad. For one even without a striker they can play 2-3 attackers, CR7 may also regain form for one last hurray just in time for their “pass the ball to CR7” tactic.

None of the European teams looks up for it this time. With France it seems that they are going to have some drama, Spain lack a striker, England are in poor form, Germany haven't been great recently, Portugal- Ron is finished but he'll play

Whoever can be solid at the back generally goes far in these, so France and Brazil immediately interest me and likewise Germany takes a step back. England has too many issues right now. Argentina is okay but I don’t love their midfield. Likewise with Portugal.
You’ve named all of those English players and they’re all great. But a maximum of 6 will play. Because our coach is shit.
Most of the other sides you’ve listed are picking most of their best players.

Very few people have Maradona above Messi.
Maradona existed in a period where football was romantic and a single player could truly run a whole game, and arguably a whole season. Maradona’s Napoli achievements will be unique forever. It was like Vardy at Leicester but on steroids. His WC win in 86 was as good a tournament performance as you’ll ever see.
It’s unfair to expect Messi to achieve the same. He’s clearly a better player. But I’d rather have been a Napoli fan in 1990 than a Barca fan, in any Messi year.

Four WC’s, 3 Euros, almost always a Semi Final. Many of those achieved with bang average teams.
Wouldn’t rule out Spain getting to the final, teams packed with world class players and it’s almost impossible to get the ball off them.
