Ochoa must be Mexico’s version of Mariah Carey. They unfreeze him every 4 years for the World Cup.

Clear penalty for Poland. Not sure how it can even be doubted. Shirt tug and impeding with the leg.

VAR has been more or less spot on so far. Premier League refs should hold their heads in shame
Yeah I don't really get the argument against it - he's all over his shirt and he sticks his leg across too for good measure

Nothing about it was clear. A defender is allowed to challenge for the ball.

Lewandowski pushes through him first of all from behind, they're both pulling at each other and they both fall fighting for it.

Football is a contact sport and not everything is a foul.

Because our coach generally does not pick players based on merit but mostly on who is nice and who isn’t. He did not manage Milik in the youth sides so he won’t pick him. He didn’t even call up Klich or Linetty because he didn’t get along with them.
This team could use Klich. He's fresh from playing 20-30 minutes off the bench for Leeds (maybe ideal for the World Cup as you're in game shape but not tired and you can always be subbed after an hour or come on for 30 minutes) and they just have so little fluency in attack.

Atmosphere sounds pretty decent. Not much to compare it to as the only other game I’ve watched was England. Sounds loud though!

Really wish there was an option to mute commentary and just keep crowd noise

Seems like a really harsh penalty when you consider that Lewa basically pushed over the defender to start with, it's the epitome of "six of one, half a dozen of the other".

Annoyingly, the VAR replay for the ref didn't show any of that, just started with the defender already on his way way over, so he couldn't make a fully informed decision.

Agree haha. He seems shite most of the time but then he is outstanding in the world cup.

It's incredible, really. His club career looks absolutely bang average but he's somehow Dino Zoff with a headband every time the World Cup rolls around.

Yeah, that list of strikers is terrible. Any one of the guys from Sand, JDT, Bendtner would have made this team better. To not have produced a world class striker for 40 years is quite something though, when you've had excellent creative players pretty much all of the time since the 80s.
Can Skov Olsen play up top? He's quite tall and has a good record for a winger and that way they can get Lindstrom or Jensen in, both of whom seem more useful than a mediocre #9.

I guess Brathwaite is an okay option in big games as he can run a bit.

It really was such a smart pen save. Feints a swerve to the right before rapidly turning the other way.

Challenge for the ball and shirt tugging are not the same thing. It is a contact sport that you can touch but you cant hold a shirt. Im glad a referee gives a penalty for it. Less shirt tugging or more shirt tugging punished would be good for football

Mexico need Arriaga, Aruglia and Pizzouza to come on.

I remember watching Ochoa for the first time in the FIFA Club World Cup in 2006, he was shit back then.

Why are you ignoring that Lewandowski is the first one to push and hold in the first place?

If anything the foul should be the other way around. Defenders are allowed to challenge for the box too.

A shirt pull is not 'challenging for the ball'. Lewandowski as clearly impeded significantly more than what he did. He barely did anything himself.

Defenders get way too much leeway especially in the prem. Significant change for the better if this is the new line.

Thats the only link I have to it sorry - doesn't embed, but from that angle it's clearly the Mexico player who starts with the shirt pulling.

Even Lewa didn't call for a pen after the chance was gone. Could be a pen but there is a debate to be had, not as stonewall as people are making out.

How can you not see it? They're both running towards the ball fighting with arms, then Lewandowski reaches across with his left arm and pushes him in the chest that makes him lose balance and fall over.

That's the foul. Yes the defender has his arm across Lewandowski but that isn't a foul. Yes he grabs a little of the shirt but that is also not enough for a penalty.

It's 2 players fighting to get to the ball first - that's it.
