I won't be getting my hopes up just yet. The statement just reads like they are considering any form of new investment, which could include a sale. To me that doesn't mean they want out, just that if a big enough offer came they would take it up. Their preference is still likely to hold onto the club and just get additional investment from third parties.

We really need to see if any actual concrete bids come in now.
Do you really think Investors will invest billions into a business they don't have a big say in? The Glazers won't relinquish control on decision making so third party investment would be very very redundant for potential suitors

I hope our fan base keeps a positive outlook on whoever ends up buying us. There will be moral grey areas if we’re owned by the Middle East or any other large consortium. In fact, there is little virtue in capitalism, as we well and truly know.
Stop making sense. This place is going to be Chernobyl when the team sells most likely. I hope it's Mr. British savior for that express reason in fact but it won't be.

Well everyone isn't goof for United. USA, Russia, Class of 92, Saudis, UAE, Qatar, Musk, 51-49 (Bayern model)
So again who the feck do you want to take over?
Elon isn't the only one in the $50-$100B club, he's just the most loud and outwardly idiotic. I'd take any of (mind you I know almost nothing about them), Warren Buffet, Larry Page, Larry Ellison, Steve Ballmer, Walton family, Amancio Ortega, Michael Dell, David Thomson, Phil Knight, etc. etc. Ideally one of those nerds is a football fan

That doesn't actually make sense.

Also why all this chatter about Musk? Wannabe cool dude isn't buying us.
Probably during the previous incident when Musk joked he’s buying manutd, he indeed said that he only supported manutd when he grew up.
Tbf, he is the least possible buyer among almost all mentioned. He seems always engaging completely into any business he started or involved with. And, those businesses are almost always technical and engineering focused. I don’t believe he wanna engage deeply into a football business. What to do if so? Rewrite the whole software infrastructure to support and analyze for sports science, medical, player recruitment, game analysis , etc?

To be fair, thats how investing goes.

There are many different methods and scenarios. Some investors DON'T want control and might be looking for a return on investment over a number of years.

Some may view a minority stake to potentially be a gateway into outright owning the club in the future.

I think the Glazers would love an outright sale, but know it would be a very small pool of investors who could do so at their preferred valuation.

Thats why their statement is so ambigious and leaves alot of different scenarios open.

Doubt there'll be a full sale.
Actually think there is a high chance. You look at the current macroeconomics facing the UK economy (pound) and the next couple of years the club will require a bunch of investment (just to keep up on the playing staff development under Ten Hag) and the Old Trafford renovation, which will all be very expensive. The investment for the next few years seem to have peaked. Good time to sell the whole thing as the supergrowth was always going to be the establishment of the Super League. The club from a revenue standpoint has not been as good as before vs other elite clubs so investors probably will want majority control instead of allowing the Glazers to continue to drive the ship.

Seems John Henry and his crew are thinking the same thing with Liverpool.

Yeah this is where the Glazers incompetence comes back around and bites them. Nobody is going to invest in the club without decision making control when the idiots steering the boat have proven they don't know what they're doing. That would be throwing money away. EtH makes things look a lot better but still not enough to counter how poorly the team has been run.

I suspect they've been pounding the pavement looking for investments since the rumors broke earlier this year. And nobody bit surprise surprise. So it does seem very likely this will be a sale.

Steady on. It could end up being awful news.

There's only a small amount of potential owners who could afford to buy Utd, and most of them are horrible people.

Say what you want about the Glazers - at least their wealth isn't derived from slave labour and they don't support oppressive regimes with shameful human rights records. Nor are they henchmen for dictators and war mongerers like Putin.

Who else is there for Utd? Do we really want another Todd Boehly? I'd rather keep the Glazers than be owned by a clown like him.

There's a very small pool of potential owners who would be better than the Glazers tbh. I hope we get one but I'm extremely worried we don't. I think the assumptions that we can't get worse than the Glazers are naive in the extreme tbh. This isn't intended as a defence of the Glazers btw - I don't like them but I also know I will unfortunately probably like the next owners even less.
My word… I don’t know if your re getting any likes from the scouts.

It's not entirely rubbish. There are cautions to note to our fans. It's pure financial illiteracy that there are people on social media that think private investors can tie up the majority of their net worth in any entity and not want to recoup their investment. The problem is we're too expensive. Too expensive for any non-state entity to afford and not become Glazers mk II. It has to be the richer billionaires. I however disagree that I'd rather keep the glazers. I honestly don't care if the saudis buy us. Football need not concern politics. Point is just to caution everyone that the ideal owner most likely won't be private so be ready to be politically neutral.

Can Phil be our Knight in shining armour though or would he be like warren who sees the club like his own buffet?

I wonder if Ronaldo said to the glazers I’ll leave but only if you decide to sell the club…

Sorry I've been scarred for many years being ran by the Glazers, what if we get Glazers mk2 for another 15years+

Oil clubs know how to put footballing people in charge , thats all I want mostly
We can’t turn into an oil club after all these years calling city and Chelsea. We want to be successful the right way. We don’t want to just spend ridiculous amounts on a new starting 11.

We seem to be doing this regardless of ownership

Ratcliffe allegedly is a shite owner too, there’s a post on here somewhere detailing all the poor things at Nice that’s gone on during Ratcliffe’s ownership.
Yeah I have seen that as well, think we could really do with someone who can shed light on how he is currently running Nice

We already spend ridiculous amounts, we've just done it whilst employing incompetent morons who haven't got a long term plan. We need owners whose focus is being the best and winning trophies

So many cocks out at single interpretation of what "a sale" is intended to mean. Could mean minority share sale.

I just don't buy they're either going to try and raise money for investment (explicitly laid out in statement) or just sell.

Build a new stadium or feck it all and sell up?

Sorry but the interpretation isn't ringing true, still.
What is difficult to understand? They need capital to keep the club. If they don’t raise it they’ll need to sell it. It’s simple.

They are selling. It’s obvious because nobody in their right mind puts capital into this and let’s them keep the keys to the Porsche.

Could be wrong but didn't the Glazers have some interest in buying IPL team, maybe this is linked to some outside Indian investment

Do we think they got scared potential buyers would opt for Liverpool if they didn't put United on the market soon? Seems like weird timing.
definitely, imagine if one of the last remaining oil nations bought Liverpool for billions. The Glaxers would be pig sick.

I'm guessing the American owners arent seeing a way to be competitive going forward against the likes of Qatari and Saudi owners, which scares me. The only people who will be competitive vs the likes of them are similarly questionable countries
This. Changing Glazers to investment bankers doesn't change anything. Or at least isn't enough. If you want to be a superpower. You need a owner who doesn't care about losses. Sad but true. Especially when Manchester is not a Barcelona or Madrid with a nice mediterrian climate. We need a money, a lot of money.

Considering how the CAF loathes the oil states, there would be a real meltdown on here if the oil states actually buy this club.
Its not an oil state though. But facts dont matter anyways.

Whoever buys us will just be a temporary custodian like the glazers, they'll feck off eventually also after a decade or two.

Utd can be run competitively off its own revenue. Even if dubai buys us they wont be injecting endless pits of cash like city.

They just need to wipe off the debt and appoint footballing people to run the club.

We have the highest net spend of the last decade and the current highest wage bill in football all despite paying debt repayments and dividends. Why are people thinking we need a billionaire to fund us? A good owner that gets the fanbase behind him without the toxicity of the current ownership will see the club’s commercial strength sore.
Because we need someone who can clear the debt then also have the necessary funds for redevelopment of stadium and Carrington. Then allow us to be able to spend big on the squad to improve first XI and depth as well.

I'm pretty convinced that the Glazers already know who they're selling to. A sale of this magnitude would have already been conducted in the background and due diligence, etc, has already been conducted.

Manchester united will be sold to the highest bidder and we will have no say on the matter. Hopefully it would go to someone rich who can invest in the club and can make us compete again

Maybe the new prospective told the glazers to feck off ronaldo first as a goodwill gesture.

I think so too. Going public doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Unless.. they are so desperate they needed to make it public. Or, and maybe more likely, they have an offer on the table they will take if nothing bigger comes in.

I'm not so sure. They'll have a list of potential buyers, but the whole point of going public with this is to increase demand and start a bidding war.

No doubt, if UAE came in with a spontaneous £10bn bid (as you do), any previous arrangement would be out of the window.

Potentially, yes. I don't think any of IPL franchises are up for sale. During the last round of bidding for new franchises (last year), glazers were outbid by everyone else.

In case you are wondering how bad economy/recession is, you just got your answer, ladies and gents.

It's Glazers are finally fecking abandoning United-the-cash-cow dream bad!

At least something positive came out of this disaster.

Didn’t Newcastle’s owners want to buy us before they took over them? What happened, could they not afford us or was it a case of the glazers not wanting to sell at the time?

Glazers would need to grease modis palms first before they win any auction.
