Ireland went from 188,000 with no religion in 2006 to 488,000 in 2016. There was a census earlier this year, those numbers will only grow.
Agreed. They will also grow globally because humans in general are communicating outside cultural and social systems that pre-information age, prevented them from doing so. The more people intermingle, the less religious they will become over time.

Hopefully we can finally get a proper separation of church and state in the next decade. Wish more people would be honest, a lot are afraid to really consider themselves non religious, good old Catholic guilt.

Also
we're not baptising our 5 month old and and my gran tried to pressure relatives into pressuring me. Nasty, stressful stuff

I've gotten to the point where I can't even listen to someone talking about religion, I just experience absolute bemusement. I feel like an arsehole when it happens, but that's my view on it at this stage in my life.

I have no idea either, yet.

On the family stuff - My twins were baptised aged 6 when one of them wanted to make her communion. I could fight the pope but not her wishes. She sees sense now and its just another funny story of a dumb thing she did as a kid.

Old Ireland will take a while to fade. As an unmarried single parent of twin girls who tried to get custody of them when they were 7, I met the legacy of church in both the state and in the psyche of the older generation. Even though the mother was hitting the kids nobody over a certain age, including the judge or family, thought it was a good idea to let them live here. I went to court twice and failed. I was told if I was married to their mother my role as father would be more concrete. The girls lived here with me until there were 4 due to Mom's disinterest. They are here now, but only because at 14 they packed their own bags. Carrying the extra weight of the decision they had to make themselves.

That really sucks. Newborns, so not spontaneous abortions?
No, both fully born without known complications (that I’m aware of, they could easily and understandably have not detailed info). The most recent managed 9hrs.

NINE HOURS! I mean what the feck is that!?!

There must be some genetics at play here, surely they can't be that unlucky? Three times is just insane bad luck.

Indonesia is banning sex outside marriage with a jail term of at least one year.
The world has gone crazy. Yet no one is going to put any pressure on them on this violation of human rights.

There are two sides to this. In general, yeah, why would they bother controlling people's life to that degree. Me personally I don't like it, I think adults have enough brainpower and common sense to do the sensible thing (at least wear a condom).
But on the other hand, there will be less neglected children because marriage means commitment and in this country, divorce is still looked down upon, so chances are sex after marriage will be safer for the children. I've seen single mothers who are not well enough financially to take care of themselves having to take care of themselves and the children(s). Their dad ran away.

Humans generally undergo a basic passage in life:

i) Identity
ii) Community
iii) Purpose

When younger the above process or passage of life is externalised ie religion, location, citizenship or even football club defines you.

But as you age or mature you need to re-look and internalise that process. Who are you is defined by yourself now and so on.

Its almost a case of arrested development if you let the external factors/stimuli define when old ie 'I am a Christian!' or 'I am an American ...and feck you.'

You also become more introverted or should as you get older. Thats why the older you are the fewer 'friends' you have.

Tell that to The Filipinos. The only country apart from The Vatican where divorce is not allowed and neither is birth control. ( I don't mean abortion). Look at the number of children born out of wedlock. If they allow divorce and birth control they would be much better off with the population control and poverty.
Now the men are buggering off after getting girls pregnant. They are getting them pregnant because buying a condom is so difficult compared to many countries. I mean even in 100% or most majority Muslim countries it's easier to get it than in The Philippines.
What about the non Muslims in Indonesia?

Prohibiting people having sex must be one of the dumbest concepts in world history.

Or, people will get married at a younger age just so they can have legal sex and very little will change except perhaps more unhappy unions.

They absolutely can and do think like that, but a point a lot of people miss about fascists is that they don't play by the rules. They don't believe in the rules, and they consider you weak for following them. They will do and say whatever it takes to get into power so they can start doing their fashy things.

Directly under the sun... NOW!
Christmas eve at the in laws. A nice night, bar the traditional Bible reading. But, I can live with that. Pre-dinner prayer... I had to be the one who delivered it. Don't ask me why. Now, it went ok. Cliches can bring a person far and my prayers usually seem pretty sincere. Little do they know.

So, what's the problem? Tonight I discovered we have to feckin get up at the godforsaken hour of 6am to be in church at 7 .

W. T. F.

Who goes to church at 7 in the unholy am?

I'm fighting to avoid conflict. I don't want to upset these innocent souls, but it's hard. I've decided to pretend, but how long before I fall off this tightrope? Self-control brothers.

Amen.
