Goalkeeper gloves should be banned

Just make the ball smaller, the goal bigger too

Gloves are worn for a reason, have you seen Rob Greens finger? (not sure how much evidence there is for gloves but I'm sure we'd see more keeper injuries)

We should make the goal oval shaped too, to increase the chances if the ball going in from random directions

I’m pretty sure goalposts were created by a Scottish team in the late 1800s. I remember an argument saying the average male was around 4 to 5 inches shorter then than it is now.

So the idea of increasing the size of the goal is not actually that far out.

I've made this argument before on a thread here and it's genius

In the interest of allowing more goals in the game, if goalkeepers were not allowed to wear gloves then surely that would let more goals in?
If your purpose is to have more goals, then removing GK gloves isn’t the one. You might as well just make bigger goals.

You want more goals. Change offside to hockey rules. Create blue lines and allow offsides once inside the offensive zone.

Why not make the goals extend all the way between the cornerflags, double the height, and equip goalkeepers with pogostick stilts.

One of these days a keeper should wear gloves that are the size of the entire goal. Easiest clean sheet ever!

For more goals let's blindfold the keepers

I wrote a letter in 1995 to the FA saying the same thing. The goals should be increased to 9ft x 9yds because how much bigger goalies are now since the 1800s. Never even got a reply.

How about no gloves allowed but the keepers have to drink 10 pints by full time?

You just caused me to remember this April Fools prank that appeared in the press some time in the 90s. They wrote articles as though they were seriously going to release goalie gloves of this size. Fooled a younger me for a few minutes.

feck keepers anyway. Utterly pointless. It's called football, what's the point of allowing two guys to use their hands.

Remove tall goalkeepers. Make it so that to be a professional GK you need to be 155cm or less.

I'm someone who shattered their wrist joint last year playing in goal, I was off work for 2 months with no pay.

Gloves all the way!
I don’t think gloves would have made a difference mate. You shattered your wrist. Someone probably stamped and twisted his studs on it.

Just tell them they can't even use their hands, only headers and feet allowed.

No, the goal should constantly be moving, and not from side to side, but a little to the left, the right, erratic.
And how about two balls on the field? Clearly more goals then

Probably would have stopped Poland conceding a penalty last night, though it was moot in the end.

I don't think he was a good goalkeeper, and certainly shouldn't be our starter at the time, but the sequence of Ricardo removing his gloves, defending the penalty, and then scoring the winning one is one of the most epic things I've ever seen a footballer do (Euro 2004, Portugal vs England for you young ones).

I don't think I had ever seen a goalkeeper remove his gloves before (and I think it was also the only time Ricardo has done it) and it's an act that would make him look like a fool had he not defended the penalty.

Let them wear gloves but make a rule that they can’t use their hands

Same, saved a shot with no gloves on a few years ago, hurt like feck. Went for a scan the next day and I’d broken my wrist in 2 places

If you’re going to ban anything with regards to goalkeeping it should be big hands or anyone above average height, of a woman.
