Love his character too. We’ve been missing the likes of him and Martinez. We are slowly creeping back.

The sad thing is, if he keeps improving we'll possibly lose him to Real or Barca.
We should tie him down to another long term deal asap as I believe he'll be world class soon.
Not this BS again. How many players in their prime that we still wanted have left us for either of those 2 clubs? Ronaldo and that's it which makes it an exception rather than the pattern like posts like yours love making it seem like.

Not surprised to see Ole's name getting dragged into this.

He's developed very well and he was given that time by the club and he took advantage of it. Having patience is very important. He had the technical skills, but also needed first team experience and to mature.

He took the next steps while AWB couldn't and that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone when Ralf came in and now EtH.

It is also funny how nobody is talking about Livramento, Lamptey, or the flavor of the month.

He seems to be really coming into his own character playing alongside the likes of Martinez and Casemiro. There really is a bit of a fighter in there. Looks like he really just quite enjoys the physical side of defending like those lads as well.

Such a refreshing change from the wilting bunch of flowers of a squad we've had for quite a while.

I posted this in the match thread, but why is his cross to set up the third goal not being classed as an assist on the match reports?

EDIT: it's because it came off the defender.

Did Neville even mention him once tonight?

Couldn't get Ronaldo out of his ass but our current RB.... not a peep

I'm absolutely delighted for him. Class tonight, defensively and offensively.

His talent and potential were shown when Carrick took charge in that arsenal game, from that game to end of the season, I knew ETH would like him. Even now in the Portugal team without ETH, he is still performing. Well done.

Developing into a fantastic right back. Kudos to ten Hag for persisting with him because as it stands, we're probably thinking of bringing in someone to cover him, as opposed to replacing him in the starting XI.

To really establish himself as one of the best in the EPL, he needs to start adding more goals and assists. I thought he had more, but he only has 1 goal and assist this season. Definitely think he has it in him to do so.

He's got 2 in 2 starts for Portugal in the world cup, and assisted Bruno when he started in the pre-world cup friendly!

We have to sign him up for a long term deal. Can't lose him at this stage.

We still wanted Pique who hadn't even reached his prime when we lost him. He'd have been a huge player for us in Fergies final years.

How many young top class players from Portugal or Spain have we had early in their career.
De Gea
Pique
Ronaldo
Nani
Dalot

We lost Pique and Ronaldo. De Gea tried is utmost to leave aswell.
Nani was probably not quite good enough or consistent enough to attract Barca or Real.
Dalot is still very young and they could be in for him yet.

I didn't include Bruno as we signed him in his prime and could hold him until his 30s if we wish.

Fergie preferred Evans so Pique was allowed to leave (back home)

It’s mad to think now, that he barely got a look in with AWB ahead of him :houllier:

Jose bought him. Ole ignored him. Ralf noticed him. ETH improved him.
Ole ignored him only as a FB, as though he and his coaching staff had serious reservations about his defending and decided he was only worth a chance in an attacking role.
No wonder they failed so miserably when you see his defensive game now.

I would laugh at the first several pages in this thread but I was very critical of him at one point, too.

What a turnaround, I know it's a cliche but he's like a new signing.

Since when does a RB need goals to be seen as one of the best in their position? I'd like to ask you how many goals do you think RBs seen as world class score?

Its this recent fan view that every position has to be stat based. People would rather have a RB that gets 5 assists than one that gets 1 and defends well and contributes to the team.

Dalot has been really good in his all round play this season.

That's because he deserved the criticism.

If anything he's actually proved all the posters right - he was playing WELL within his talent.

Go back and watch the game against Villareal where he got absolutely murdered by Arnaut Danjuma. After this match it was like he realised 'I can't let this happen again' and became a new man.

Whether the introduction of Martinez has helped install some confidence in him too. He just looks like he enjoys defending now, before he looked so scared/timid.

I hate post like this.We lost one player to them in the last 30 y ffs. And we also bought some good players from them. Case, Varane, Di Maria ( right player but the wrong time).
And I am glad for Dalot. He was good for Milan, thank God we didn't sell him.

Times have changed. The PL is where the money is at and where most of the best players want to play now. Madrid and Barca will try and pay crazy money for marquee players like Mbappe but not for squad players, and they usually do their shopping at smaller clubs. When was the last time either of them signed a player in his peak from one of the big teams in Europe that wasn't surplus to requirements?

Thought he wanted both, but he knew he couldn’t keep Pique for long when Barce came calling and we still had Rio and Vidic in their prime.
Yeah well possible as well. Just making the point that we didn't lose him, we were okay with him leaving due to circumstances

Tbf to ole, Dalot wasn’t that good anyway. I remember those never ending pointless crosses
Because Ole couldn’t train and develop players, I remembered Dalot wasn’t good at that time but he has potential to become a tier 1 RB despite the weakness, Football people all know that, Ralf first and Ten Hag

Conveniently didn't ask me about assists which, if I'm honest, was what I was focusing on more.

That being said, I think if you look at the positions Dalot gets into, I don't think it's outlandish to say he should be picking up 5 league goals a season, especially with the way ten Hag utilizes his full backs.

If not goals, definitely more assists.
