Manchester United are chasing Rennes left-back Julien Escude.

The French U21 international is rated at £8 million by his club, though United are confident of landing the youngster for £5 million.

The 22 year-old is being tipped as the long-term successor to Bixente Lizarazu in France's national team and his capture would place more doubt on Mikael Silvestre's future at Old Trafford.

Anyone know anything about this guy? Thought I'd throw this in due to the speculation about Silvestre leaving. I suppose it being on TribalFootball already means its crap tho.

1 yr left on his contract, if he dont sign over the next couple of weeks he should be put up for sale, his loss more than ours.

Silvestre at CB is a disaster waiting to happen. And you wouldn't have to wait long.

Escude is class imo. A cross between Maldini and Lizarazu with Silvestre's pace. I think this is sign of Fergie looking for a replcemnt for Irwin in the squad. ;)
This lad would give Mickey a run for his money. :)
I don't believe Mickey is going anywhere. Just the press is making him another Veron case. i.e "unsettled", "contract up|" etc.

From this mornings screws.

Mikael Silvestre is to be handed a new £6million three-year extension to his current deal at United worth £40,000 a week.

So this guy is like the best defender in the world? Maldini, best LB ever. Lizarazu is another great LB. WOW.

Veron has made statements saying he doesnt know about the future. Silvestre has openly criticised the boss, all this "I dont see what he is talking about", "I dont agree with what he says" "Why does he keep playing me out of position?" etc. Massive difference there. Besides, Veron is a world wide superstar and big story, Silvestre isnt. The press isnt going to gang up on him like that just to unsettle him. He could very well leave. But we're short on defenders as it is, hope he stays, he is a great LB.

I rate Anelka higher than Diouf. With Owen and Diouf it willl be over 30 offsides every scouse game.

Anelka was the King of offside during his time at Anfield, so we're used to it..

Totally agree. At least if he makes his mistakes on the left we have a chance to recover. In the middle we're done for.

I second that, losing concentration, and bad positioning on the flanks is embarrasing, but if the player has pace he can recover, in the middle- forget it. Plus Mickey is not strong enough in the air to play CB.
